Last year we wanted to get alot of plays with different or unique board game mechanism. We also finished culling our collection to under 50 in 2023. So this year we want to lighten up on new games and enjoy what we have in our collection. If we find something we will queue for end of 2024 sales. In addition, there's a BGG forum with solo standard card games that I never heard of that I want to try. This is something I want to try in 2024.
I haven't really done a board game goal like what you're mentioning. I think that would just stress me out too much. I do look back on games in my collection I haven't played in a while and try to get them played. If I find that I haven't played a game in over a year, I will probably give it another play and then decide whether to cull or not.
Sounds like a great goal- during 2023 my goal was to play at least 100 different games and I accomplished that. This year I am trying to get to the games I didn’t play last year that I still own. I’ve been culling and selling games also. I have around 150 games and my buying has slowed down lately. Many of my newer games I don’t know the rules well- so it takes some mental energy to play them again. I’m also prioritizing the games with a good solo mode. Some I’ve played multiplayer but not taken the time to see if I like them solo. My game group only meets once a month-so i can’t get to all the games I want to play with them. So many games- so little time. 😊
Great goal! I'm doing something similar and created a list of my games to identify unplayed games (11) and games that have been played 0-1 times since 2020 (33... oof). Just like you, I noticed many of my absolute favorite games like Viticulture and Rajas of the Ganges haven't been played in years as I've been playing mostly new and legacy games. This year I hope to get those 33 played and decide if they still belong in my collection. Thanks for the motivation!
I don't set goals. That's just painting myself into a corner. I don't know what I'll feel at any given moment. I like all the games I have. Even the ones I haven't played in years. Those might be moved to a closet as a keepsake. Remember - It's not hoarding if it's board games 😉
My goal is similar but I don't have any penalties. I went through my collection of games and identified all the games that I really really want to make sure I play this year. Some I simply love and many are longer complex games that are hard to get people to play. I ended up with 36 games on the list and I've got 4 of them played so far this year. There's no way I'm culling any of these games on my list since they're all great games. If any aren't played then I'll just move them onto next years list!
This is a great goal. I did something similar. It would be great if you could recap your feelings on these games for us; kind of like your quick reviews vids.

Goal 1. I am purchasing NO NEW GAMES. In the last few months Ive built up a fantastic collection quickly as this is my first year in the hobby. Goal 2. Play everything i have 5 times Goal 3. Begin to customize and deluxify what I already have!
I think you oughta blind grab an unopened game from yer shame shelf, learn and play it. Then reward yerself afterwards for having 1 less game on yer shame shelf 😊🙌🏽

Rajas and Viticulture both are great. I got both to the table a few times last year. Good luck!
