Abstract:
This series of presentations will cover several aspects of the connection between the ray and wave models of light. The first part will be discussion of the ray-wave connection of fully coherent fields, and the analogies with the classical-quantum connection for mechanics. The second part will focus on the use of these ideas in the study of structured light beams, and how the more primitive ray model often gives more direct intuition than the more accurate wave model. The third part will be devoted to partially coherent fields.
