i feel like this is how it went down when they asked craig to host crash course government and politics: "hey craig, you wanna host crash course government and politics" "can i punch an eagle?" "sure" "i'll do it!"
I am not going to try to give an intense reason why...but I wish Craig would stop hitting the eagle. I asked him nicely after the last video...but it did little good. Perhaps Craig does not read the comments.
Lobbying is indeed bad, but do know that every side of a subject has a lobbying group. So if you're going to call out one side for corruption, you also have to call out the other side. This is true for every political and social topic.
Bart Bols You know that every NGO like Amnesty International, Transparency now or even groups like Wolf PAC is lobbying too? Lobbying only means to speak to a representatice to get him to support your goals. This is not bad and should not be restricted by law in any way. It should be made transparent though, e.g. through registering every lobbyist group in a public registry.
That is indeed total bullshit. Lobbying is legal in every western democracy. In many states there are lobbying registries, e.g. where i live in germany. Lobbyists have to be listed in it if they want to be heard in committees. They don't need to be listed to just talk to representatives, that would mean a huge administrative burden, but it still helps in making things transparent. I don't know where you got your definition from, but it is not accepted in political science that way.
So awesome ! This video helped me a lot! I have a project for my gov. class on how bills are made laws. The School House Rock video gave me the basic idea, but your video really helped me understand the details! Thanks a bunch!
I appreciate your videos. I needed help understanding my Political Science course and my instructor sent me here. You gave me a better understanding without all the extra words.
Writing a speech on how a bill becomes a law in Japanese is hard enough, so it was really awesome to have a video that summarizes it nicely! Thanks for the helpful video!
I was singing the school house rock song before I even clicked on the thumb nail (as soon as I read that title). And, you didn't disappoint in mentioning it.
The filibuster is supposed to be a congressional supermove where you had to get up on the floor and refuse to yield until they reject it or you faint. Now that filibusters are much easier, it's used all the time.
Craig is like a reverse Trump- instead of being attacked by an eagle, he attacks the eagle. I feel like this should be a metaphor but I don't know what that metaphor should be. Also, I love these videos.
It's not just the vetogates that inhibit Congress from acting; uncompetitive districts mean that Congressmen have only to appeal to their extremist primary voters. This means that they cannot compromise, or they will lose their primary. It's not just the structure of Congress that makes it dysfunctional, it's the structure of elections as well.
i've been telling people for a long time now that congress wasn't necessarily meant to "get things done." thanks for mentioning that "dysfunction" is actually part of congress's function.
lalamelol that a CrashCourse thing. When they started doing these, they would have the script on the laptop. It's just the way things are done there, much like the sliding at the start of each episode.
Sylvia Cambridge I think it has to di with the camera angle and the zoom. Because this video was shot much closer, the laptop comes to the forefront instead of being a piece if the set
I just came across crash course a few months ago, and have started watching each play list from beginning to end. Craig, as of this episode you may knock John Greene out as my favorite.
I have an idea for a new law/Bill. So alcohol was banned for a reason and many people over the years have died from drunk drivers like kids, entire families and drunk drivers themselves. Hell even most crimes some people are intoxicated. In family homes there's a lot of domestic abuse because a drunk sibling who does not know how to drink responsibly. I'm sure victims of all these things would agree with my Law. Getting to the point is "Zero alcohol tolerance" law :anyone who is incapable of drinking responsibly will be banned from drinking alcohol and are not allowed to have it in their household. People who start fights in clubs, streets, homes (parties) will be affected by this law. People caught drunk driving will fall into this and even people who have been abusive in homes are also affected. Just like how we have records and stuff on pedophiles we will keep records of people who are affected by this law who are not allowed to be drinking or not have alcohol in the home. They need to complete a whole year of Aa meetings to get their privileges back. If it continues a second time they will be banned for life from drinking and owning alcohol in the home. Victims who lost loved ones because of drunk drivers or domestic abuse WOULD support this law. People who don't drink responsibly are a threat to society and therefore need to be banned.
Serious sharpie Hillary Clinton is a terrible candidate, but she is definitely serious about the presidency. She has actual plans that she has laid out over the course of many decades, and the presidency is the next step to lay out those plans. Admittedly, she is incredibly machiavellian, and she will do anything to maintain and extend her political power, progress, and status. However, for Trump, it's just the size of the chair that matters. He is too blatant in anything he does that diplomacy, one of the most important aspects of the presidency, will be difficult for him. If you look at it from the perspective of House of Cards, Hillary Clinton is Frank Underwood, and Donald Trump is William Conway. Frank Underwood is evil to the core and will murder to win the seat. However, he will hands down make a better president. Donald Trump will not be able to deal with the fact that most of the duties of the president barely receive any attention, and he will have a hard time coping with that.
Looked for this crash course yesterday when I was studying for my HABBAL test. Took the test today, just a blank piece of paper to write out the whole process. Then I see this got posted tonight LOL if only 24 hr ago
"think of all the post offices that aren't named. you can't think of one, can you? name it. you can't. it's not named." lol it's just like being back in 3rd grade with all of those smart-alecs.
Craig, "Gary & Me" in your channel, 10/10. I discovered it thanks to the link you provided in this video (that's why you put it there, I know). I'm sure you already know this but I'm going to say it anyway, you have a lot of talent, your scripts are brilliant and your sense of humor kicks ass, keep it up. I'd watch you on tv if you had a show, and I don't watch tv... PS: How in the world do you throw sudoku magazines/your phone or feed cookies to yourself in Gary & Me??? Your video editing kicks ass too (or there's an evil twin there...LOL).
Not always. I lobbied on the state level in Alabama to get a bill passed to create a Rare Disease Council. By the way, it got passed unanimously with nobody paying anybody ;)
Nick Houchin I wish but he’s not even intellectually driven or capable enough to know what he doesn’t know and attempt to assuage his own ignorance with educational material like this.
What I want to know is the POLITICS and strategy behind how: 1.) Politicians of the same political party get other members of their party to agree to vote for the bill. Where do they discuss this? Because I'm sure they do. Do they have to do other favors for the other politicians in order to convince them to vote? Do those politicians go back to their state or districts and discuss the idea with voters, community leaders, and special interest groups back home? 2.) Politicians of opposite political parties convince and ensure that they get each other to vote for the bill to be passed to the opposite chamber.
one tactic congress members use is called log rolling, in short it's kind of like "hey, you vote for me I'll vote for you" kind of deal, except in a formal, more political manner.
Craig, if having almost 600,000 subscribers is your idea of failing, then I don't subscribe to any successful channels. Your videos are great, by the way, both here and there.
If pro is the opposite of con, then is Congress the opposite of progress?
Lmao
I'm using this.
Hi fellow lamp!
Well then what’s the opposite of constitution...
Dead Presidents III
A section on "killing bills" without a single Kill Bill reference. Shame.
copyrights are annoying
Making a reference would fall under fair use.
*violently whistles the Kill Bill tune*
XD kill bill the movie XD
And?
I like how Flippy from Happy Tree Friends is in the senate....
I love the addition of fliippy to the thought bubble
i feel like this is how it went down when they asked craig to host crash course government and politics:
"hey craig, you wanna host crash course government and politics"
"can i punch an eagle?"
"sure"
"i'll do it!"
*Eagle Punching Intensifies*
~eagledies~
Hmm, what does the eagle punching signify? Sociology, media, communication, psychology students?
Mr Bubbles isn't that a metaphor for love\hate views of the us?
I am not going to try to give an intense reason why...but I wish Craig would stop hitting the eagle. I asked him nicely after the last video...but it did little good. Perhaps Craig does not read the comments.
Robert Neal I'm for non-real eagle punching.
I'd wish more people would watch this, and know what is a bill and what's a law.
Lobbyists bribe the member. The lobbyists write the bill. The bill is passed.
Or lobbyist just gives member the bill which his employer already wrote.
Lobbying is indeed bad, but do know that every side of a subject has a lobbying group. So if you're going to call out one side for corruption, you also have to call out the other side. This is true for every political and social topic.

Ben Miller Heh heh. Member.
So awesome ! This video helped me a lot! I have a project for my gov. class on how bills are made laws. The School House Rock video gave me the basic idea, but your video really helped me understand the details! Thanks a bunch!
It may be a little dangerous to give Flippy (1:20) a position in the congressional committee.
How horrendously complicated...
If more people knew how it works, they probably wouldnt have voted for candidates promising to repeal obamacare
lol...welcome to government
Yes VERY
Wonderfully complicated. Ask Fascist Italy how great direct efficient rule worked for them.
GLT Music yeah you (and anyone else that is confused) should watch the school house rock one lol it makes it more simple
Flippy in congress would definitely make C-SPAN more interesting
Vectored Thrust I’m just so confused on why he’s there 😳
Yeah, I laughed at the Bill Gates joke. I ain't ashamed
ZarZDodge Same
Same here bro's
1:19 YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THEY GOT FLIPPY
1:16 oh hey Flippy.
"I was behaving in a senatorial manner" Epic!
Obama is actually left handed, 2:38 you done goofed thought bubble
Shut up u dum duck
Jaiden pat when's the next yep hehehe “duck”
You animate it
Huh? What's wrong with your grammar? What does "you done" mean?
@@BuyTheDip627 five years my guy
I see Master Chief at 1:25, whatever bill they're making has been blessed by the Chief
Ah! You're WheezyWaiter! I was wondering why your face was familiar! I saw you on that RUclips documentary.
I'm really digging this series
1:17 YO!! Is that Flippy from HTF, And Doomguy from Doom? YO!!! :pogchamp
I watched this video only to see if they would 1. Reference school house rock. and 2. show school house rock.
thats my guy!
Im not sure whats worse, the guy from happy tree friends being in the senate or happy tree friends being relevant in 2016
Doesn't a bill need 218 (simple majority of 435 house members) to pass a bill and not 238?
Never thought I'd see a happy tree friends reference in government class
Thanks for saving my butt in AP Gov. I have a test on the legislative branch tomorrow and this really helped.
Craig is like a reverse Trump- instead of being attacked by an eagle, he attacks the eagle. I feel like this should be a metaphor but I don't know what that metaphor should be.
Also, I love these videos.
Good refresher on Govt. and Politics, but also a really upbeat tone. Great job, Craig!
Buster, (I don't know) Master chief, Agent of Shield, and one of the Happy Tree friends.
[brain explodes]
therealquade She's form the DC Comics universe. Her name is Amanda Waller.
huh
The one you dont know is from Halo
+therealquade
she puts bombs in peoples heads :D
thanks for uploading this ONE WEEK AFTER MY EXAM
At least 1/9,593 million Swedes love you for the 'eagles have bills' joke
Keep up the good work Craig!
Soooo are we just going to ignore the Happy Tree Friends reference?
It's not just the vetogates that inhibit Congress from acting; uncompetitive districts mean that Congressmen have only to appeal to their extremist primary voters. This means that they cannot compromise, or they will lose their primary. It's not just the structure of Congress that makes it dysfunctional, it's the structure of elections as well.
1:25 So I take it that the thought bubble canonically occurs in a mixed Marvel-DC-Sega universe? Good to know.
i've been telling people for a long time now that congress wasn't necessarily meant to "get things done." thanks for mentioning that "dysfunction" is actually part of congress's function.
I was not expecting to see Flippy in this xD
Same
This video was so much better than the previous ones. Keep it up
Having the laptop there in the middle is kind of annoying...
lalamelol that a CrashCourse thing.
+lalamelol I didn't even notice the laptop until I read your comment
I loved this crash course. You were great! Funny too! Thanks
I just came across crash course a few months ago, and have started watching each play list from beginning to end.
Craig, as of this episode you may knock John Greene out as my favorite.
Thank you. These videos have been so informative.

My Government Professor: "Make sure to read Chapter 11 on how Congress makes bills for this essay"
Me: *Watches ten minute crash course vid*
A majority of the House is 218, not 238.
+JohnMarshall2013 Thankfully someone noticed this major flub, they really should put a note on the video. That number is way too important.
+wbn Another big and goofy mistake. The Taft-Hartley act was passed in 1947 during wartime and not in 1953 as he says at 3:30
Can you not. They were having a legitimate conversation and you ruined it.
1947 wasn't wartime jheez
Imagine if we had a troll for a president, who vetoes bills just to screw with people.
Are you talking about POTUS Donald Trump?
Bhargav Tata oh you mean Hillary?
Serious sharpie Hillary Clinton is a terrible candidate, but she is definitely serious about the presidency. ***** Cool, you should watch House of Cards.
Our country would be destroyed! Lol
Thanks, i'm struggling with my fed gov class in college lol
Looked for this crash course yesterday when I was studying for my HABBAL test. Took the test today, just a blank piece of paper to write out the whole process. Then I see this got posted tonight LOL if only 24 hr ago
Why is a Flippy from HTF in the senate? that will SURELY lead to mass decapitations and eyeball crushing!
Good episode. I like the way you pulled this off.
Happy Tree Friends reference in Thought Bubble, awesome!
This was a superb explanation.
"I'm just a bill..."
CRAIG- great episode... Keep up the good work guys.
2:08 A majority in the house would be 218 (435/2=217.5)
I've been wondering for a week if Schoolhouse rock was going to be mentioned and I was not disappointed.
There was an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. I am really happy about that
Great video, I often come back to.
I'm about to crash course my way through ap gov
Brady McAdams lol in my ap gov im required to watch this and answer like 20 questions
"think of all the post offices that aren't named. you can't think of one, can you? name it. you can't. it's not named." lol it's just like being back in 3rd grade with all of those smart-alecs.
Somehow i managed to learn all this from just watching house of cards.
Wow, this episode was quite efficient! I think Craig factually found his stride.
punch that eagle again, I fuckin dare you!
Give it a week, or if you like you can go back and look at the other video's. I think he does it in every one. Enjoy your anger.
Ventilated45Auto I enjoy the eagle-punching. It's classy.
Sylvia Cambridge its unpatriotic
Thindorama
Not really.
Thindorama
That's so cute. A little boy that has no idea what being unpatriotic is.
You run out of closing jokes... awww. For real, I enjoyed them.
'To reduce the chance that authoritarian bills will pass'
Yeah, that went well.
0:29 Eagle has a beak, ducks have bills
my 8th social studies teacher actually did played the song about a bill becoming a law.

Not always. I lobbied on the state level in Alabama to get a bill passed to create a Rare Disease Council. By the way, it got passed unanimously with nobody paying anybody ;)
Yay! Time for my weekly dose of Craig!
eagles have beaks...not bills..
SLVO Whats your transition then
my social studies teacher would have shown me except we've been quarantined to she showed me this video 0:15
Donald trumps watching this as we speak
Nick Houchin what you mean?
Nick Houchin I wish but he’s not even intellectually driven or capable enough to know what he doesn’t know and attempt to assuage his own ignorance with educational material like this.
people really need to watch this before making assumption
How a bill becomes a law:
It doesn't. What, you thought congress did stuff?
thank you! this really helped me!
You did NOT just put happy tree friends in there! XD XD XD
We really need that classic WheezyWaiter eagle scream and punching sound effects.
0:15 My teacher already showed us.
"Nobody wants to try something and fail in public"
Even if you are, wait for it, the Mongols. *Duuun duuuuun*
Vito C shut up u dum duck
4:20 *Kill* the *bill* I see what you did there CrashCourse!
I just realized crash course is the new version of schoolhouse rock 😱😱
I really wish you had created a channel CrashCourseAmerica for this. Or RUclips allowed finer subscription control based on playlists.
Okay, that is one smooth ass sponsor plug.
Wtf wheres the other dude
Was that Amanda Waller in the Thought Bubble? I think that was Amanda Waller in the Thought Bubble. AMAZE!
how da frick did happy tree friends get in here?! 1:17
Was that... Flippy?!?!? From Happy Tree Friends?!??! Lol 1:19
My teacher sent me this I was texting my friend the whole time (._. )
I'm watching this for a school project and I need to prove this video is a trustable source. How can I prove that?
Flippy! xD

Steve Buscemi I hope you got help in time!
1:17 FLIPPY MY BELOVED
Thank you sooooooo much! I had so much trouble with this in school!
Craig, if having almost 600,000 subscribers is your idea of failing, then I don't subscribe to any successful channels. Your videos are great, by the way, both here and there.
