- The Boat That Rocked (2009) SYNOPSIS: In 1966, BBC radio broadcasts less than an hour of pop music a day, forcing pirate DJs to take up the slack from boats anchored outside British waters. Quentin (Bill Nighy) is the commander of such a pirate station, overseeing a host of seedy, lusty and dope-smoking DJs, including the Count (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and Dave (Nick Frost), who makes it his personal mission to see to it that Quentin's newly arrived godson (Tom Sturridge) loses his virginity.

According to IMDB, "the scene in which Young Carl sulks about Marianne was originally supposed to be about eight seconds long and contain nothing but Tom Sturridge sitting on a bench and looking sad. Will Adamsdale and Ike Hamilton happened to be there, so Writer and Director Richard Curtis told them to have a go at what they would have done if their friend was in the same situation. He put on 'So Long, Marianne' and they came up with everything that remains in the scene."
Most underrated movie ever
one of the funniest movies you could watch in your life.
You said that bud.
Great m9vie
I have tears in my eyes every time I see this scene.
It's so nice of them not to ask stupid question and not to patronise him. They respect his feelings. They just stay by his side.
Same :')
@@JerryRam0628 I found out your comment
@@samanthabartzursa7669 Hahaha owww!! I love you a lot!!!! ❤️
I felt so bad for him. Was swearing at the tv cos he really liked her
I noticed Carl's lip quivers just before he takes a biscuit.
Not a word spoken and yet pure brilliance
Sometimes actions speak more volume than words.
The perfect formula for a cult movie. Hardly anybody went to see this in the theater. Now most theaters are shut down and everyone, at home, is watching this because it speaks to multiple generations in the same breath. This is a fantastic movie and will be remembered when others are forgotten.
👍✌️
it's good to have a friend like harold. he always be there. one of my favourite character tho he just minor
Working on a story for him. Wanna collaborate?
Gotta thank this scene for hooking me on Cohen's music all those years ago
The greatest scene in the film, touching
every time I watch this movie. it makes me happy. it's so full of life. 💗💗
One of the loveliest and most poignant moments in film history. Tea and Biscuits make everything better!
Harold brought so much to that film and he only had one or two lines throughout the whole thing, but he brought so much emotional depth to all his scenes, none more so than this one!
this makes me so sad but warm at the same time
Anyone ever feel like a Harold?
Good. Don't ever stop being a Harold. You're loved.
I use to feel abit like Kat Graham's Character ( Bonnie in the vampire diaries minus the powers) btw I absolutely ❤ this film
Absolutely brilliant scene. No words needed
My favourite scene in the movie. Love this movie and love Tom Sturridge.
This could be a Bourbon biscuit ad 😃
Such an adorable scene
I'm sure I have a similar comment below... but this is one of my all-time favorite scenes from ANY movie I have ever seen... There's just something so... genuine in the performances. It just makes me smile.
This is one of the first places that I came too after the girl of my dreams said no when I asked her out on a date. That hug at the end helps quite a bit, :(.
Nick Vannan Don't be upset, things like this will help you overcome difficulties in the future. Pain is bad but it's also helpful. Don't lose faith in who you are and you'll end up with someone you really wanna be with. Take care, you'll make it.
This has helped. Many, many thanks, :).
@@adxcosta1807 thanks, mate
I'm so blessed to have friends like that in my life.
This is my favourite scene in the whole film
Unsung heroes.
Tea and bourbons always sorts me out 😂
Perfect song,perfect film
Midnight Mark's gorgeous choice of song helped so much in this situation!!
The best scene in a great movie.
Not a word said, brilliant.
First time I had ever gotten ASMR… the infamous Chocolate scene….. ❤
1:30 to 1:53. I feel as if I watched a friend in the making. I wish that the world could be that precise and simplistic when it came to connecting and making friends.
One of my favourite scenes ever,, this and John candy in planes trains and automobiles when he tells Steve Martin that he’s an easy target.
Best friend goals
One of the best scenes in whole cinematography!!!
Beautiful scene.
Adorable ! Never enough this movie ! You know he is your friend cause he's dipping the biscuits away from you :)))
One of my favorite moments from the film.
One of my favorite scenes of all time. I come back to watch it every few months. Brilliant!
Harold is the friend everyone needs
Loved this movie. This scene was precious.
This scene reminds me of my Grandma bringing me a snack or some tea/Cocoa she did it even into my twenties. Didn't even have to ask for it I could just be coming in from cleaning up the yard and sitting down to do something on my computer and all the sudden she'd appear with a cup of tea and some crackers or some thing that she picked up at the store for me to try
🤗❤
This scene shows how life should be led, if something bad happens just laugh about it and move on.
I watched this last night & I actually enjoyed it, not just cos of tom 😉 but the banter between them was brill
About a year after my gran died, my best mate and I met up for a pint - I was having a rough time, and he got me through it. This scene just reminded me of that night. Cheers, Ewan - love ya, brother!
❤
Either for the Leonard Cohen's song and the memory of my late dog Frida (I used to sing to her this one) can't hold the tears of my eyes
Moody characters must be a Tom Sturridge thing
It's not the case. The character here is a young, romantic guy, about 18 years old, with no previous relationship experience, who has just had his heart broken for the first time. It's understandable that he's in a bad mood ar the moment. 😉
One of my fave scenes in movie history!
Improvisational genius. So sweet!
One of the best scenes in the whole movie
That's mate's. No need to talk just being there says more than anything.
👍🤗
A girl... goes by... your friends... forever
Tea, biscuits, and friends. ❤
I have never dipped a biscuit into a hot drink.
The best film ever imo
Favorite richard Curtis film but should realese an extended addition cause of that dance scene with ifans
I know! Some of the stuff that he edited from the film was more poignant than what he left for final film.
Edit+ there is a DVD of everything that was cut from the film and it certainly does include the dance scene. ❤
He’ll make a great version of Dream
Came here after watching the first season. You are so right.
WHAT THE HECK
Excuse me? How was this comment from 2 years ago
Leonard Cohen is the man. Join me in this simple celebration
Harold Is the best.
Rip Cohen
Drew.
We're still watching and listening today. He must have done something right. ☺
So wholesome💙
Two people never went for the bourbon biscuit
I have to make mentioned of the genius of Leonard Cohen author of that song . So long Marianne .
It a balled of true hart brake . I always lampoon the lyrics.
So Long Mary Ann .
I Guess I'll bet the Donkey again . Them He'll Laugh and Cry and do it all again .
I'd really like to know what Harold whispers/says at 0:18
Harad - Medieval Music
"Hey, we know."
"That'll warm you up"
It's in the subtitles
Just occurred to me that's the actor from Sandman
love the song whats the title?
So long, Marianne by Leonard Cohen.
