The average comparisons with ABD can be a little misleading, since ABD batted lower down the order and picked up many NOs. Even so, in the period 2016-2019 (ABD retired in 2018) Rohit had a 10+ lead in average over ABD. 2015 onwards, Rohit was only overshadowed by Kohli. Even there, the difference in runs per innings was smaller than the difference in averages, as Kohli picked up a lot more NOs. Both had the essentially the same SR. From the team's POV, the mean contributions of the two in the 2015-20 period was Rohit: 55 of 58 and Kohli: 57 of 60. Rohit went toe to toe with the ODI goat at the latter's peak! (Edit: If we look at 2015-23, their RPIs differ by a mere 0.5).
This is actually a fantastic point. I would also like to bring up one more thing. the batting position also dictates the field placement and the kind of bowling they have to face. It is arguable that the first overs tend to be difficult to negotiate in terms of lateral movement, but the field placement does offer up opportunities for boundary hitters. The comparison with ABD hence needs to be further examined. Maybe their strike rates need to be broken down by each quarter of their innings played.
This is actually not correct way to look at it. As a middle order batsman, Kohli or ABD doesn't gets as many opportunity to score as much as an opener in Rohit... (For eg. in the game vs Afghan Kohli was 55*... Being a No3 batsman he was not able to score to his maximum potential) So essentially comparing RPI is flawed... RPI of an opener should be higher than a middle order batsman...Still Kohli leads in RPI by 2 runs is a massive lead. That's why average is the best parameter to analysis. To be notout means that batsman finished the game. Which is a good parameter to look at. Still Virat was outscoring Rohit... But I agree on 1 thing. In any other generation if not for Virat-Rohit would have been the No1 batsman...
@@meenzaa1805There is this case called batting powerplay advantage to openers...which is massive... And it overtakes the lateral movements in the initial 2-3 overs... Which middle order bataman hardly gets... So putting Rohit in same league as ABD, I think isn't correct... ABD is a giant in ODIs and should actually be compared to the GOATs itself- Viv and Virat...
@@1239-p1kwhen ABD peaked, odi had rule of changing balls after 35 overs which helped batter for hard hitting plus only 4 fielder were allowed outside the 30 yard ring after 40 over, which definitely helped the lower orders destructive batsman. That was the time when teams used to double their 35 over score in next 15 overs. Then, icc changed rules once again.
The frustration I have with Rohit is that after making a 40 he gets out playing a stupid mistimed lofted shot. That's what is hindering him from getting in my goat category
Rohit Sharma was playing in many spots in his initial stage of career to later get in the top order batsman and that contributed to his underscoring. While Virat since years and even during his last 3 years of bad form was backed and stick with few top spots helping him to score more runs and bring back his form. Even Saurav and Dhoni mentioned this is many occasions that Rohit sharma is going through a rough patch of being played in many spots which is hurting his form and scoring abilities while he could have been the highest runs scorer. That's why lately he is more on a scoring hunt at high average. He isn't caring if he loses wicket or not but wanting to score to destroy the bowling line and length so that team can capitalize on the onslaught of top orders. Even if the top order give up wickets now there are VIrat, Shreyas, Pandya who can contain the drop of wickets is the whole idea which happened against Australia.
In early stages of one’s career one has to secure a place. Kohli was being backed after he has proven for more than 10 years that he is one of the best batsman to have played cricket. Kohli was backed correctly.
He's in the same league as Viv, ABD, Sachin and Ponting. Who's better comes down to personal preference - remember the rules were different in each era. Number of overs, 2 new balls, bat improvements, field restriction rules, no-ball rules, bouncer rules were all different across the eras.
Not really. Viv and Ponting won WC finals off their own bat. Rohit hasn't even played in one. I know you Indians have low self-esteem and you jizz in your pants when a white dude praises your lot...but really.?
@@raghibabduzsamee3884Good.. Personal preferences may also come into the equation. For me Viv vs Virat will be the ultimate rivalry for GOAT tag in ODI
@@1239-p1k have you ever watched cricket? Virat is nowhere close to Sachin and Viv. If I have to use your system: A++ Sachin A+ Viv and ABD A Ponting, Rohit, Virat You probably never watched cricket of the 90s. 230 used to be a par score, and 250 used to be what 350 is today. The boundaries were bigger, the rules were different, the power plays were different and there was one single ball, not 2.
Like Messi ! He will win world finally. His team efforts are finally pitching in. Team playing as a team for world cup and not for stats. Salute to this mindset of the team and players ❤❤❤❤
Don't bring Messi here. Messi is all time great. Rohit is not even top 35 all time. fifa world cup have fra more teams than cricket. Don't bring Messi here.
Zaheer Abbas, the Pakistani great put it nicely," Rohit Sharma ki batting dekh kar Dil ko tassali milti hy, Dil ko Sukoon milta hy". Nobody could have put it better.
Just judging by the sheer number of match winning knocks Rohit's done it over the years for India, one would have to say he does make the all time top 5 GOAT ODI batsmen. 10000 plus runs at almost 50.00 avg and 90+ sr opening the innings is par excellence. Avg and SR isn't the only important metrics for judging a player as no. of not outs, role, position can skew the numbers hugely. I'd even argue no. of match winning runs scored consistently over a long career trumps avg/sr anytime. For instance, MS Dhoni has a career sr of 90 which isn't exceptional by modern day standards but one would have to remember he's won more ODI matches for his team than anyone who had a strike rate of 100 during his era.
Rohit is well above Virat. Hands-down.....it is purely because of the potential danger he brings in unlike Virat who is much more of a calculated, hard worker. Rohit is pure .....Virat is perfect....that is the difference.
Great analysis Jarrod Rohit and Warner are the best openers in world cricket (period) Note - Not including Sachin of course, he is beyond any comparison with anyone
maybe best opener in their generation. Not all time. I can write 10-15 better openers in drunk state now. 25-30 in sane state. Sachin Gilchrist hayden sehwag ganguly Jayasuriya gibbs greame smith Gavaskar border cook even gambhir is better. But our thala helped rohit getting gambhir spot through his rotation policy.

On top, sehwag is a superior batsman outside India subcontinent. Plus I put more importance to test than any other format of game. So I pick sehwag above rohit. I see Rohit as a non consistent batsman outside Asia. Except 2019 WC, he never score those runs consistently. But ya, in Asia Rohit is better than Sehwag in ODIs and T20s.
Absolutely true, we all know that Virat is the morden master of every format of cricket but we forgot (not that much celebrate) that we have another world class batsman instead of trolling comparing with Virat why can't we just celebrate both.
I think Virat is considered better than him because of his 28 centuries in tests. But I think in the last 10years they are the top white ball batter in the world. But rohit's recent test form is much better than Kohli. Kohli has rudimentary records but rohit has some of the most extraordinary records like 3 200s, 5 cen. In single edition, 30 consecutive innings double digit runs in test etc.
Umm, when you say other players such as SRT and Hayden had better world cup compared to Sharma in terms of runs scored did you took into account the no. of matches they played in that WC. As far as I remember SRT plated 11 in 2003 and Hayden 10 in 2007. They had lesser average than Sharma too in those WCs
WTF you are you thinking Afghanistan is a weak team 🤣🤣 LoL Today's Match Proved They aren't weak But Hitman is Strong And Look yesterday what happened 😌😌
Jarrod I think everything can be summarized by the fact that Rohit Sharma has never won a single ICC Man of the Tournament so far in his long career. So he was never been "HEAD AND SHOULDERS" better than other batsmen in any ICC Tournament. Sachin has one ODI WC Man of the Tournament while Virat has 2 in T20I WC.
@@siddharthreddiar3353 I don't think so that he was by "far" the best batter. David Warner was always just behind him and Shakib was phenomenal as well, especially in a weak batting lineup. The point is other batsmen also performed really well in 2019 world cup. It was extremely batting friendly with 3 batsmen scoring 600+ runs!

Sachin's 2003 record is crazy. He scored 673 runs which was 200+ runs more than 2nd and 3rd best players - Ganguly (465), Ponting (415). Records should always be looked in relation to what other players did around the same time and not in isolation.
If you take out cups in a kitty and winning semis or finals Rohit > de villiers in wc. De villiers has not won anything crumbles in pressure yet people have lop sided view not taking away he is a great batsman. Rohit has 2 Asia cup to his name as a captain.
I'm sorry but in case you're too stupid to notice, de Villiers averages 60+ in World Cups while striking at ~120. No other batsman in the history of the game comes close.
Rohit has a century in world cup not outs. Also 4 of his 7 world cup centuries have come while chasing. So he can handle pressure. Hope he and Virat can win it this time for us.
Kohli is definitely better than Rohit in ODIs in general but both Rohit and Virat have struggled in ODI WC knockouts...one of the main reasons India as a whole has been struggling in knockouts as well. I mean what happens when two of your best batters keep failing together? That being said, Kohli has gone to prove that it isn't a competency thing because his numbers in the T20 WCs are unbelievable to say the least. They get even more unbelievable in knockouts. But all of those stats won't matter if they both fail together yet again in the knock outs. Even Sachin failed in the final. So lets hope the team finally answers this time around and brings the cup home. For that both Virat and Rohit will have to be at their best along with the other 9 guys. The stuff kohli and kl pulled off in the first match against Aus...as spectacular as it was you cant expect them to repeat it again and again.
sachin, viv and abd are still better even in wc ,we should considered the era they played in and how their contemporary perform ,these three had both better avg and sr,despite not always playing as a opener, also worth remembering rohit was dropped three times in three diff matches where he scored hundred ,compare to sachin who was wrongly given at many occasion in his 90s
i agree that sachin, viv, abd, kohli are better than rohit but you bringing dropped catches into the scenario for comparison is stupid. Many batsman catches get dropped rohit is not alone you stupid bastard.

If he scores a 100 each in this year's sf & final and wins India the WC, then we would gladly call him the greatest WC Bater. Till then let's share that title between Sachin & Viv.
Very flawed argument... Virat is actually the greatest of all time... And Rohit was never able to outscore or get a better rank than Virat ever in his career. Rohit's best ICC ranking was No2 behind Virat No1.
Sorry but GOAT of World cup batting is still the God of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar. He averaged 40+ in 5 World cups, top scored in 2, was India's highest run scorers in 3 World cups and still holds the record for the most runs in a single edition of the WC. And all this despite playing in an era without powerplays, DRS, 2 new balls and crazy short boundaries. Not to mention match fixers for teammates and legendary opposition bowlers. Rohit and Virat are great, but they haven't surpassed Sachin.
Please correct yourself... Powerplay was introduced in 1992... So Sachin played with powerplays... It was called fielding restrictions till 2007. The name was changed in 2007.Not the rule... So sachin played with powerplays. Pls be aware of facts. 2)DRS is a 2 way thing. Batsman and bowlers get benefit from DRS. It's not just batsman. 3)This legendary opposition bowling is just a MYTH. Sachin's 3 WC centuries are against non test playing nations... His 2003 WC stats is boosted by 150+ against Namibia. Without that he had no centuries in 2003 WC.
And Btw... Virat is already miles ahead of Sachin, if not for nostalgia merchantising... Viv vs Virat is the discussion of greatest ODI batter. Sachin is a third.
@user-uu8uk2qj1l Field restriction: 2 fielders outside the circle in first 15 overs and 5 outside for the rest of the overs. Powerplays: 2 fielders outside the circle for the first 10 overs. Only 4 fielders outside the circle for the next 30. And 5 fielders outside the circle for the last 10. That 1 extra fielder makes a huge difference. Kenya till 2003 was better than today's Bangladesh. They made the Worldcup Semis. Except England and India, every nations' best ever bowlers played in that era. Today's bowlers are school boy level compared to them. DRS has ensured that decisions from biased and racist umpires of the 90s (Bucknor, Hair etc) are not decisive and final. Keep your rosy retrospection to yourself. Tendulkar led from the front as India's topscorer in the victorious 2011 WC campaign. Virat has equalled what Sachin did in 2003. He needs to win a WC as one of the leaders to surpass Sachin.
Imo you have to boss two world cups to be the WC goat. The current WC goats are Sachin, Sangakkara and Viv with Sachin being the top goat. If Rohit bosses this world cup he will definitely be in the WC goat convo.
Rohit Sharma shots are too classic, and his timing is better than any current batsman. Even Virat acknowledged that he always has more time before shots. So if anyone who doesn't consider him among the modern best technical batsman, then I have nothing to say. Even Asian Don Bradman legendary Zahir Abbas told in one of his interviews that Rohit Sharma is his favorite batsman because he makes those shots with totally different class.
Rohit Sharma is very dangerous. If he gets set, he can demolish any team. So, in my opinion, Hitman Rohit Sharma is the greatest hitter in Indian Cricket. He doesn't use too much power, he just focuses on timing.
The Goat WC batter I have seen is definitely Lance Klusener. He plays when it matters, he plays for his team, he gives everything. Also, he can bowl. 😉
The day he faces really legendary bowlers, I will call him goat. For me, he and kohli both are not even top 5 world cup goats. He never faced warne mcgrath lee akhtar murali wasim waqar ambrose walsh marshall, etc standard of bowlers for 90% of his career

Doesn't matter, his knock against England in 2019 wc (104) almost won the game for us, he's a class batsman when it comes to odis and the GOAT wc batter for sure. 7 centuries in 19 innings isn't what you see normally lol
Rohit scored 4000+ runs while chasing if don't know anything shut your mouth. Because Virat is chase master people like you who comparing an opener to a batsman who bats at no.3 when both player's roles are different from each other, opener's role is to set a ton of the inning then virat comes into the game continues the momentum and finish the game. You can't aspect to finish the game from an opener. Yes Virat is chase master but people should not ignore fact there were Rohit,Shikhar and MSD too, one of them who scored runs which is important runs on those run chases. If you are saying only Virat's runs are match winning runs others runs are nothing you are in delusion because Virat haven't scored many time 140 and above in odi with a single hundred a team cannot win most of the time. Just because you haven't seen anything the truth not gonna be changed.
Since 2013, Rohit Sharma has taken on the role of an opener. Here is a breakdown of his scores in finals and semifinals of ICC events. He has not managed to score a half-century in any of these crucial matches, often falling short when it matters most for India: - 2013 Champions Trophy: 9 - 2014 T20 World Cup: 29 - 2015 World Cup: 34 - 2016 T20 World Cup: 43 - 2017 Champions Trophy: 0 - 2019 World Cup: 1 - 2021 Test Championship: 34 & 30 - 2022 T20 World Cup: 27 - 2023 Test Championship: 15 & 43
The most number of centuries in the WC is meaningless unless they help you win the Cup. Gautam Gambhir played only one significant gutsy innings his entire life that won his team a World Cup. That is the only thing matters.
Rohit is arguably the better batter than Virat for a team. Virat may score you more runs but Rohit will win you more games. He is selfless. While other batters want to be the best batter, Rohit wants to be the best team player.
That's ehy you clowns never win any tournament 😂😂 because eyoj clowns don't know how to respect the goats like kohli who always saves the team from pressure situations

He can be the best ever WC batsman only if he manage India to win this world cup. I still rate Sachin, Richards, Devilliers and Ponting better than him in world cups. Kohli has underachieved very much due to Rohit's dominance in the top order.
Virat was infact tad unlucky, Because he generally came into batting very late in 2019 wc as well as in 2013 wc against Afghan His inningses of 34* vs Ire 82 vs Aus 77 vs Pak 33* vs UAE 34* vs SL 55* vs Afghan Were all potential centuries.
No I don't believe Rohit is goat rather that Virat is goat cause Virat played well so many innings when no one can stay against first bowler Virat is the only one who can make a good score despite attack
He is saying only about WCs... In ODIs as a general I dont think anyone will consider any player ahead of Virat and Viv Richards as the greatest ODI batters
Also should've taken into consideration that rohit sharma was dropped 8 times in 2019 wc, and made a total of 474 runs after the reprives, so if he was dropped 0 times, he'd have 0 centuries in that WC and a total of 174 runs.

According to me
1.Virat
2.Viv
3.Sachin
4.ABD
5.Rohit
Rohit is well above Virat. Hands-down.....it is purely because of the potential danger he brings in unlike Virat who is much more of a calculated, hard worker. Rohit is pure .....Virat is perfect....that is the difference.

Powerplays: 2 fielders outside the circle for the first 10 overs. Only 4 fielders outside the circle for the next 30. And 5 fielders outside the circle for the last 10.

Also should've taken into consideration that rohit sharma was dropped 8 times in 2019 wc, and made a total of 474 runs after the reprives, so if he was dropped 0 times, he'd have 0 centuries in that WC and a total of 174 runs.
So ?, no one paid them to drop the catches 🤷
Could say that about the majority of the innings 😂
Despite getting dropped you still have to make it count, runs don't come automatically. This doesn't change the fact he was in golden form in that tournament.
When was he dropped against Pakistan?
😮
Babar Azam is the greatest batter in world cup and outside world cup
I am also a GOAT of the world cup, because just like Rohit Sharma, I have also seen World cup finals, only on TV.
