    It was always such a crazy journey playing RDR2 and realizing how much horror content is in the game. It's absolutely stacked to the brim with horror tropes.

      And of course the night people down in the bayou….approaching that disemboweled horse then hearing the sounds….and later approaching the crying woman. Good god I think I have PTSD

    Speaking of crocodiles, the biggest (non scripted) jump scare I ever had was in Far Cry 3, where I was just standing by a river minding my own business and a croc lunged out at me. Didn't see it coming at all. Later, I got attacked by another croc in a tight underwater passage without noticing it in time. I've been jittery near water in Far Cry ever since.

    • @daggers7765
      @daggers7765 Год назад +25

      There is a scripted crocodile attack in a secondary mission. I don't remember the name, but a villager tells you about people who go into a pool - in a cave underwater - and they never return, so you go investigate, you swim inside, find everyone dead, swim back and are attacked by a crocodile mid swim. Scared me so much the first time, and since then, I always throw a couple of grenades in the water after finding the corpses

    I still say to this day that the biggest jump scare I've had in a game is from Fable 2.
    You get to these hidden areas (it's been a while since I played so details are hazy) where you go thru a portal and end up in a valley with a lone mansion in front of you. You go in, get a chest, and everything's fine. I think there were 10 or 12 total in that game.
    Well at the 5th or 6th one, you walk up like normal but as you approach the walkway, the screen flashes, a scream happens, and the mansion now looks like it went up in flames days earlier.
    Gat dang, did this cause me to jump while sitting.

Also this wasn't really a jump scare, but in Fallout 76 I was walking through the Mire area for the first time and it was night in game, I had the music and radio both turned off in game and that area is spooky by default so I was already a little unnerved, but I didn't expect a Flatwoods Monster (basically an alien) to suddenly start attacking me from behind. It was also running on the Source engine, but an earlier version, so actually beat Half-Life 2 to implementing physics in a scary sense, with crates flying all over the place as you toured the house, something gamers hadn't really seen done well yet at that point.

    Doom 3 had an amazing jump scare. It actually had quite a few. However one scene has stuck with me. You see bloody footprints appear on the ground. Only time you see those. You can follow them and they lead you to the dead end of a corridor. Then you’d hear behind you, “They took my baby!” No matter how you try you can’t turn around fast enough. There was nothing there and the end of the corridor opens to some loot, but best (worst) jump scare in any game ever, IMHO.
