The program that Pierre describes is the actual program that is provided in Calgary, I don't know if I can name the place but this is exactly the way it works. They combine day programs and residential programs. Some people that have been there for a while, work during the day, attend evening meetings and therapy, stay there for now until they save enough to get a place of their own. Newbies have day long therapy and stay there. Others that have places to live that are safe, attend during the day and are free to return home for the night.

I was thinking the same thing. It would be like saying that we cured a family member from his alcoholism problem by buying him alcohol. He died from alcoholism at 47, so the problem is gone. It would be like calling it a cure. That's how ridiculous it is.

And yes the previous NDP gov tried this policy as well which was a disaster as well LETHBRIDGE was a prime example of this terrible policy. Free drugs isn’t the answer and the. Lawless that comes with this is a problem. Enforce the laws 🤷♂️
IMO there is a difference to what is happening and decriminalizing.. I FIRMLY believe the user should not be jailed.. they need help.. they need rehab and counseling not prison bars. Dealers.. straight to jail. No "Safe use" places.. you get caught you go the rehab and all your stuff is destroyed (by stuff I mean the substance). Zero Tolerance don't need to mean criminal charges..
Users are just as much to blame. Drug use is a decision majority of addicts are 100% responsible for. Accountability is sadly lacking.

You know, Pierre, I couldn't agree more, except the part where you say you want to bring them home, drug-free. They don't want to come back home, because their homes have been chronic and perpetual poverty. Poverty is NOT a life worth living. Everyone keeps missing that entire chapter, the one where they are locked in poverty, the one that drove them to drug addictions in the first place.
That might be the new norm as our lifestyle continues to decline...we get drugs to help us forget.

Drug addicts isn’t going to commit to any programs either unless they actually want to change their lifestyle for the better. We have a U-Turn centre where I am who was independently started by someone who was an addict who transformed his life and went into ministry religious practices and then started this program

Brit here. Poilievre’s proposed policy of funding rehabs is fantastic! This is the only way to help addicts change their lives. I’m speaking from personal experience. Addicts cannot moderate their using, and the end result is always the same. Jails, institutions and death! And that’s not even mentioning the pain & misery that the families& friends of addicts go through. Addiction is an illness. But there is a remedy. It doesn’t work for all addicts, but it’s the only thing that does work!

The only question needing to be asked in Canada or the U.S. is: How, exactly, does decriminalized drug use improve the country and the quality of life for the majority of its citizens?
