    The saddest part about Catelyn's death is the fact she died hating Jon for nothing

      I wonder how she would've reacted if she lived long enough to find out who Jon really is.

      Show Catelyn would've been kinder and more motherly to him. Book Catelyn would've seen him as a threat to her family.

      If only she knew this,would she have kept this a secret?

      that wasn't the saddest part, though. The saddest part was that she died believing bran and rickon were burned/hanged by Theon after days and days looking throught the window hoping she would come back to them. That was the saddest part...

      As me and my dad were watching the Seventh Season of GOT where it was finally revealed who Jon is I asked my Dad why don't you think Ned never told his wife the truth I mean if he just told her then not only would she not be so angry towards him about what happened she may have even loved the boy as a mother.
      But he said maybe he did and that's why she hates him so much she couldn't get past that he was part Targareyan but kept the promise he kept to his sister and didn't tell anyone else but could not love him.
      I'm not sure if I believe that but yeah I definitely would've loved to see Catelyn's reaction, not just to him being a Targareyan but to that whole King in the North scene where he was named their King while Sansa was passed over.

    No one ever questioned the coincidence of Lyanna dying around the same time Ned brought a baby home.

    • @Ragna74
      @Ragna74 7 лет назад +18

      There was too much going on back then.

    • @lordalessan
      @lordalessan 7 лет назад +9

      Rayne Belladonna Too much of what happened ended after the rebellion. And none of the Starks or Baratheons remotely connected the timing?Robert never questioned it, neither did Catelyn. I'm really surprise that they didn't even consider it a possibility.

    • @Lunelaya

      I think the tale of Lyana being kidnapped was spread for too long in the Seven Kingdoms. After all, even the Starks thought she had been abducted by the king's son, and that's what started the whole war and rebellion. And no one would question this point of view after the war. Especially not Robet who was apparently convinced Lyana was his.
      I don't know the details of what happened then. But if someone had a doubt about the "kidnapping" they would think that Lyana or Raeghar would have tried to stop the war between the North and the Crown. As far as I know, they did not (and I don't know why). So the "not-kidnapped" theory is quite frail from an outsider's viewpoint.
      And a kidnapped and raped Lyana would never have asked her brother to keep a baby, to lie to protect him.
      At last, that war and Lyana are very sensitive subjects to Ned (to protect Jon), he never spoke about them, even to his own children or wife. So no one ever had the details about what happened back then.

    • @Ragna74
      @Ragna74 7 лет назад +4

      Did Lyanna want to marry Robert? We know that Robert later on turned into a drunken fat slob king who visited brothels, and he didn't love Cersei one bit. I don't think Rhaegar ever intended to start war by "kidnapping" Lyanna. Still there are holes in the rape/kidnap story made only by the victors.

    • @lordalessan
      @lordalessan 7 лет назад +8

      Rayne Belladonna In the book, it wasn't implied whether or not she loved Robert; my guess is that she didn't and marrying him was for duty. She knew that Robert loved her, but felt that it was his nature to sleep around and he'd continue to do so after they were married. Personally, I don't think Robert loved he either, he only idealized her and her beauty, even Ned said that Robert never knew the real Lyanna ("the iron within"); Robert didn't even remember how she looked (meanwhile, Aemon remembered everything about his lost love despite old age).

    The sad thing about Catelyn's portrayal in the TV series is that I think there's a part of her that wishes she could love Jon as a son, but every time she tries the rest of her reminds her that he's Ned's bastard, the symbol of his dishonesty.
    If she'd known the truth... well that's for fanfic writers I suppose.

    this is so beautiful and so tragic! jon could have had a mother in catelyn if it weren't for ned keeping the truth from her :( not that i justify her coldness towards him, he was innocent, but well...it could have been different.
    amazing video!

    • @GlitterHeather
      @GlitterHeather 8 лет назад +10

      It is. At the same time, had she accepted him, or shown anything other than abject coldness and hatred towards him, his cover story could have been jeopardized.

      But ned has to lie to her she was the key to making it true, if he told her she wouldn’t have been cold to him and other houses from the south would have known something was up, she unknowingly in my eyes was Jon’s best protection from the truth being found out

      I'm not agree. Cat shouldn't be so rude towards Jon. He didn't deserve her hate. Ned didn't say anything to protect the boy, he made an oath and we respect him for that.
      She should be more kind with that kid, not only because he was half brother of her own children, but because he was innocent.

    This was so amazing! I really don't understand why Ned didn't trust her with that secret she could have kept it! Amazing job on this though! :D

    • @Jack-fg2kx
      @Jack-fg2kx 8 лет назад +27

      Ned and Cat knew each other for short period of time and it was political marriage. He didn't trust her yet to tell her this and her hate kept that secret so Robert wouldn't kill him or Tywin for that matter. It was necessary for this and it's just such a shame that Cat will never learn that Ned was faithful to her. Ned sacrificed a lot to keep him safe.

    • @tessmickens458

      To be fair, it was a kindness to Cat alone that she never lived to find out the truth. To live, to find out that you hated an innocent child for a crime that was never his. She hated him based on a lie made to protect his life. How would she live with herself, knowing that she was blaming a child for something that wasn't his fault anyways, but now it wasn't even true. All those years she had trodden down on this child and made him know that he didn't belong, and for what? He wasn't her husband's son. By the time Ned could trust this woman, he couldn't tell her. The whole charade that kept his sister's son alive would come crumbling down. Because she couldn't love a motherless child indeed.

    Yea ik she had a right to feel resentful and she was only human and Ned (bless his noble heart) didn't tell her the truth. But I really hated season 1 how she treated Jon most of the time as if he was at fault for Ned's actions.

    aw this was just utterly beautiful and now knowing the truth of Jon's mother this was just perfect!!! I'ts sad Ned couldn't trust her with the secret because she would have been kinder to Jon and loved him instead of hating him amazing work well done

    • @nikkiberay4903
      @nikkiberay4903 8 лет назад +2

      probably why he didn't tell her, so she would hate him. no suspicions would arise if the wife truly despises the bastard boy. or perhaps, it was ned's honor, his promise to lyanna was beyond love and trust.

  • @DragonHeart613

    I cannot wait for Jamie to find out in S#8 that Ned never cheated on Cat, that Jon is in fact Ned's nephew and that Ned was always true to Cat and for Jamie to finally accept that Ned was indeed the great man of honor & integrity that he always was :)
    I only wish that Cat herself had lived long enough to find out the truth about Jon and see them hopefully reconciled to each other :(

  • @b.1162
    @b.1162 2 года назад +5

    I gave this some thought but I disagree with everyone saying Ned should have told her and she would have kept the secret.
    Even if you eliminated the reason for her hating Jon (reminder of her husband's infidelity), she would not have loved a nephew-in-law like her own children. She would always put her children's safety first. And if anyone figured out Jon's identity, it would have put them in danger.
    I fully believe Cat would have done absolutely anything to keep her children safe. Including getting rid of Jon.

    I feel that the Rift between Jon and Cat was entirely Ned's fault
    (I know he was protecting Jon from Robert's wrath because he was The son of A lyanna ( he would most definitely see it has he was a product of rape) and B Has Targeryan blood which was the family Robert despised)
    but keeping Cat out of the loop was honestly a stupid Move if anything He could have told Cat and They could havs both just raised him as their son.

    • @Hannah-hq8ne
      @Hannah-hq8ne 7 лет назад +8

      mikey kean I kind of agree. Cat gets a lot of hate from the fandom but she was also a victim of Ned's choices. In modern day she would've divorced him but she couldn't. Plus, he frightened her when she asked an innocent question. If Ned said that Jon's mother was just a random whore she probably would've had an easier time rather than thinking the man she loves loves someone else more than her. Ned did a great thing but he handled it so badly and could've eased both Jon and Catelyn's pain by telling her and he often gets off Scott free from the fandom but I put the misery on both Jon and Catelyn's lives at Winterfell solely on him

    • @silent_traveller7
      @silent_traveller7 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah Ned would have told the truth but what about the outside world...Catelyn stark loves Ned bastard, I mean who would love her husband bastard.... isn't that fishy!

    • @ChrisM-dx8up
      @ChrisM-dx8up 4 года назад

      @@silent_traveller7 I don't think they're dumb enough to not consider how they need to portray themselves. Either way, why would Catelyn love Jon Snow considering he isn't even Ned's son? He's the cousin of her children, which in GoT doesn't seem to mean much in terms of how much they actually care about people outside their immediate family. Ned obviously loved Jon but Catelyn could've just been indifferent to him.

    Catelyn Tully.....the sister in her convinced a Stark to go south.....the mother in her got a Stark in trouble......the friend in her got her husband killed......wife in her made her hate a motherless child......and she wouldn't have been put to this if a Targaryn and a Stark had been open to Westeros.
