- Godox have just released a NEW low-cost flash that works with almost all cameras - the Godox Lux Elf.
The Elf has a clean white minimalist look and looks fantastic on vlogging cameras like the Sony ZV1 and the Canon EOS M3.
In this video review I show you the features of the Elf, how to use it, show you some sample images, and I compare it to the Godox Lux Junior.

I wonder if Godox Lux Elf can charge the battery and take pictures at the same time?
thank a lot sirrr
very useful for beginner
No worries! Glad you found it useful ☺️
Looks to me like the Lux Elf was designed with the Olympus Pen E-PL10 (in white) in mind.
I'm not a flash photographer myself, but I notice you stick to ISO 100 even at very slow shutter speeds. I would increase the ISO myself to reduce movement blur - on my own cameras I can easily get away with ISO 6400 - in particular on Olympus/OM System gear - the AI Noise reduction in OM Workspace works a charm with cameras like your OM-1.
Thanks NP! Yes the Oly Pen in white would be another great choice to match the elf! And also good point re ISO, that shot I took at 1/10 second was not intentional 😂
But doesn't flash freeze motion?
Good review! I’ve been looking for one but doesn’t seem to be any stock anywhere. I’ve been collecting most of the Lux series (Senior, cadet) and looking to add the elf. I considered getting the junior but I didn’t want to fiddle with AAA batteries. Also, “elf and safety reasons”?! 😂 I appreciated that 😅
Ha ha so happy you liked my dad joke in the video 😂 Which Lux do you like best? I recently got the cadet, that’s such a cool looking bit of kit!
@@MattLovesCameras the senior is the best looking one IMO, but the cadet wins for ease of use - less faffing about to get it ready. I’m also concerned for the longevity of the spring loaded bulb on the senior
How do you avoid the shadow band that sometimes appears on the lower third of the image?
Hi! It might be that your shutter speed is too fast for the flash. Try using a slower shutter speed and see if that fixes it 😊
Does it work with the godox wireless trigger xt1 for example?
I don’t think so as the xt1 is just a trigger. The Lux Junior has to be triggered from another flash as I understand it.
I'm not sure if it's me or the flash, but I can't get this flash to fire wirelessly on my sony a7iii or a6300. it fires wirelessly just fine on the sony zv-1 as mentioned in the video. just posting in case anyone else like me is desperately searching for answers (and has already tried the flash fixes discussed elsewhere).
Sorry to hear that! When you say wirelessly, do you mean on top of the hotshoe? Since recording the video I’ve read other reviews that it doesn’t work on the ZV-1 so glad it works on yours!
yes on top of the hot shoe! sorry I realized that wirelessly means something else in the flash world later on 😅 but it works if I use a usb c cord for the a7iii (haven’t tried a wired connection for the a6300) and I don’t need a cord for the zv-1. I’m suspect it is some random sony setting because my a7iii recognizes that a flash exists on the hot shoe, but can’t fire it. I tried every setting change idea that I found on the internet and gave up haha
@@evynlarsen It works perfect on my a6300 and a7iii but it doesn't work on my 6700 or a7iv.
how with sony a7 classic? does it works?
@@HELMETMEMET sorry, I don't have the a7 or a7ii model. I think it should work on the older model of sony camera. I also tested it on my zv-e10 and it works perfectly.
