I just bought a B26, made in 1976 but feels like new. Faux 3 piece forend, exhibition chequering, oddball engraving, plain wood. Balances well, with 30" barrels. A gun for life, all for £750! Can't wait to try it tomorrow.

A great summary even for a browning collector. I’ve had my 325 since 1992 and it has many thousands of shells though it. Finally two years ago the bottom barrel stopped firing. I took the stock off and de-gummed it and it’s rocking on! I just cannot wear it out. Would be great to hear more about the different B25 configurations which still confuse me. Also of course the Auto 5. One of the earliest and no doubt greatest semi auto ever made.
"Close the breech. You get that nice solid Browning bank vault 'thunk' that comes from machined, heat toughened steel and the careful mating of barrels to receiver." Poetic Advertising 4:18
I've just bought a 325 in auction, it dates from 1987 a year before they were officially released (dated from serial number) It has 28" barrels, Invector chokes, game scene (pheasant & ducks) 2 3/4" chamber. Horrible brown rubber vented recoil pad. Thanks for this video Jonny, interesting to learn that some years over lapped on release, helped me clear up whether I had a 325 or not. Keep up the great video's.
Excellent review. In the mid-1980s I bought a 20 and 12 gauge Citori, each used for $500 . After about 20 years of heavy use the safety does sometimes slide in between over and under and will not engage, so I had a gunsmith pin the safety so the safety is reliable and the under barrel always shoots first. After 38 years of heavy hunting use, the Citori served me well and I use it for waterfowl up here in Alaska, then wintering in Montana I use it every day with my extended upland season
John Browning designed the first over and under. The Superposed over and under. I love my 725 Feather 12 gauge over under with a 26 inch barrel weighing just 6 pounds and 7 ounces. Inflex recoil pad and extended Invector-Plus DS chokes. A improved modified and light full are my pick and mechanical trigger not inertia as the 525 has.
I own a couple of older citoris in grade V and like them a lot. I looked at the Brownings only offered in the UK and they are much more attractive than our US models. Don’t know who styles their guns now, but their last job must have been in ladies apparel. Looking at the Cynergys made my eyes bleed.
Jonny because of your videos, I purchased a Browning 525 12ga and 28ga for sporting clays. I absolutely love these firearms. Thank you for all the wonderful information and history. I really look forward to your videos. Keep up the great work. Any chance of getting into the history of SKB? I used to shoot SKB before I found the majesty and shoot-ability of Browning.
I have the Citori Plus and I've had mine for 20 years it comes with everything you need to adjust that gun to fit you perfect it's that they don't make the Satori plus anymore
Bummed that you can't review the Citori CX/CXS/CXT lines. I switched from a Cynergy to CXS because I was also young and impressionable, but I still hit clays, and I suppose that's what matters all along.
I just rarely see Browning in the world cup or Olympics. The only Browning I saw last years world cup in Korea was a British junior trap shooter using a Browning CXT. The rest were Beretta, Perrazi, Gamba, and Krieghoff.
A lot of what we see in the World Cup are not guns purchased by the shooter but rather sponsored shooters. I have no doubt Browning guns are capable of taking those titles if only Brownings budget extended to sponsorship of decent talent!
@@tgsoutdoors I saw Browning listed as a sponsor for the Rio World Cup. The only thing I could spot that was Browning was the hand towels. Its important you know! Don't forget to bring a towel.
Very good video ... a lot of info ... Now at 1:23 you have John Browning holding what I believe is a Remington Model 17 ... that was the basis for the Ithaca Model 37 that is still in production today ... and the Browning "BPS" ... so the Model 17 was the Grandfather ... and I have one ... and it is one of my favorite hunting guns. I went to O/U's because the Game Wardens would always want to check my pumps and semi's wasting valuable hunting time ... ( we got stop 5X's ... the 6th time I went off on them and pulled all the previous Wardens' business cards out ... and shamed the guy ... " do you talk to each other ??? Call One !!!" So always get a Warden's Business Card ... The O/U stopped most of that ... and they are sweet to shoot !!!
I’ve just bought a new b725 Hunter light 28” 12g,I would just like to know your thoughts on the gun and if your ever going to do a review on one, thanks
Ma Deuce isn't going to be happy you didn't mention her. 😉 I agree with the others that you were moving along pretty quickly. However it looked even faster when I was originally casting from my phone to my smart TV. The audio and video got just a bit out of sync. Did appear like the engine was overheating when you lost the cap. Thanks as always, very informative.
Great review Jonny very informative Just bought a wee 425 in good condition feels great compared to the silver pigeon that hammered the face of me Keep up the good work
Good God Johnny, stop and take a breath!👍 An informative if somewhat rushed video. I look forward to your videos and those of country way gun shop. Both parties having a bit of a ‘thing’ for Brownings’ and Mirokus’. Your combined videos’ have been influential enough that I recently purchased a B525 Sporter One, though I still haven’t shot it!😱 Please consider a video on easy improvements to low to mid end guns. In a previous video for instance you talked about improving a Miroku Sporter, but didn’t mention how to improve it in detail. Thank you.
I just get carried away and forget to talk at regular non-Hampshire pace when talking about something interesting! I am in need of a new gun in the next year or so. If I get another 38 I shall do a series on sporterising and improving it.
Lovely, thank you John. If I manage to get some more money in my slush fund and I clear some space in my cabinet I might just join you. I do have an unused Caesar Guerini Tempio Light 20 bore which I bought from new and have never used that I might move on!
Great history break down. I recentley purchased my first first Browning OU white lightning 12 ga. Now im hooked looking to purchase a CXS 20 bore for skeet and dove. What are your thoughts on the CXS is it really a good cross over?
Any chance you could help me on a older Citori question...the gun is made in 1980 (PM in the serial #) and ends with "173" . This signifies "Hunter" but the gun has a grade 5 hand engraved receiver (very ornate) with 3 pheasants on one side and 3 ducks on the other. 28ga. with an English straight stock. Nice wood. Trying to figure out approximate value...but some details dont jive with the various models circa 1980. maybe it is a special order gun?
I could be wrong but I believe that the 101 was built by a completely different factory. Not Miroku but Olin Kodensha. It shares a general look to the Browning guns at the time but it's a different animal.
What do you think about the reliability of the model Browning B525 Game 1 Light (reability of action frame how made from a single block of aluminum) Thank you
I know this comment is old but if you were considering buying one a cx is a good gun but if you can afford it I’d take the citori 725 or B725 they are worth the extra money and will last longer than your grandkids
So where do the Ultra XS's sit? It is a 525 action? I have an Ultra XS Prestige, which I love, but I cant work out where they sit in the range. I know you mention is as a continuation of the GTI. I cannot find a review for a prestige anywhere, so its difficult to find anything out about them.

I have a question. In North America a lot of my friends that had 725 Browning‘s stated that they had problems with their mechanical triggers. Some people in fact said that they really weren’t mechanical. I am looking at the new Browning 725 pro sporting. They say this trigger has been improved. Should I expect problems from this trigger. I shoot a lot of a smaller gauge shells
Absulatelly luv your show , I'm in the market for a nice over under for clay shooting, I want a qualiety gun, and I'm torn between the Beretta and the Browning , please advise
Mine comes with 32 inch barrels and they are ported it also comes with adjustable High rib it also comes with the recoil system adjustable buttstock cheack
Can you do a video comparing American Browning's vs European models. I am so confused about why they do not call the citoris out here "525" and why we have such different models
a question: on the Browning US catalog they separate the Citori from the 725 Citori, where in the chain would the current, US version of the Citori lie, I appreciated your discussion on Browning but I just couldn't follow where the US Citori deafferented. from the 725 Citori. Is the US Citori more or less a 525 or something different all together
The citori cx, cxs and cxt are the old tried and true citori action same as the 625 and older models. The 725 is a totally new redesigned action that is more trim in about every dimension and weight. The 725 feels a tad more beretta like as far as handling goes in my opinion. I didn’t like the way it handled and ended up getting a citori cxs with adjustable comb and love it. The cynergy however is completely different from either. Definitely not a citori.
@@marinerabbit9441 thanks so much for your response. I in fact bought my daughters each a pair of CXS micros they seem to fit them quite well out of the box. They are, perhaps even at this moment, burning down the sporting clay ranges in West Texas prepping for our trip to Scotland, that is if the 'Rona ever dies away, and for me, well I was ordering anyway, I threw in a pair of Citori Sporter Grade VII 's since I have pretty much worn through my Lightnings, I guess nothing lasts forever
Thank you for this truly informative piece. It would great if you could compare a Browning B725 Pro Trap (High rib) with a Zoli Ambassador Regent (High rib), both with 32" barrels and all the bells and whistles that come along with both of them. Thank you again.
I have finally come around to my Browning 725 Pro Sporting, but I would never buy it again either. Browning guns are chunky, utilitarian, but a good work horse. Where the Italian guns feel way more refined, classy, and feel smoother to me. They seem to swing and handle better too. The safeties are nicer on Italian Gun’s too. Now I want to pick up a Beretta 694 or CG Summit Accent instead.
Thanks for another fascinating video. I would second the idea of an in-depth Auto 5 video dealing with different eras as I have two of them from the early 60s (one mint and one well-used) and they both shoot brilliantly, but from what I have read that was the golden era for Auto 5s. Also a dedicated B25 video series would be good.
12:20 .....525 and Citori was wonderful,......unless you owned a 16ga. Firing pins and springs were and are the bane of this shotgun. Browning will not even warranty breakage or will put you on back-order. Which WILL be forever. 7:35......At least you (barely) mentioned the BT 99. Best shotgun I ever shot. Standard dimension gun and it fit me like a pair of well-used driving gloves. Shot my best score in trap with that gun, and I had to borrow it . 14:11.......I own 2 older Zolis and they are excellent game killers, as long as you fit the gun to you. Mine wears a Morgan Adjustable recoil pad set 1 3/4 inches high and 3/4 inch to the left. Ugly crap cousin. I don't worry about HOW the weapon looks, but look at how well it shoots. Case in point: 1953 Tula SKS. Iron sights out to 240 yards. 8 out of 10 on 8 inch steel. I am a decent shot. Not good or exceptional. Just got a good rifle. It is ugly as heck, but will put them downrange where I want them. 1900 FN Herstal bolt in 6.5. Rebarreled to 300 Savage. Kicks like a mule but is a 2 MOA rifle with peep sights. 300 Savage was the parent cartridge for the NATO 308. Ruger Mark 3. Ugly little pistol, but shoots as well as my Browning Buckmark. AK's are ugly, but my Century Arms WASR is a tack driver out to 120 meters with my Primary Arms ACSS scope. Even the Buckmark is ugly when you compare it to the lines of the Colt Woodsman or the more refined S&W 41. At the end......you get what you pay for. If you have deep pockets, ........buy hand fitted and tailored to you Italian guns. If you are like most people, ........shop around and find what fits you. Take it out to the range and see how well it shoots. Then lay the money down. It is the nut behind the recoil pad which defines accuracy. I can shoot most anything well. Good to exceptional weapons make the range times so much more fun. You get what you pay for.
I hope Browning service is better in the UK and Europe than it is in the US. Also, are cracked stocks at the pistol grip and bottom barrel malfunctions (misfires) showing up in 725s in your area?
Hopefully someone can help me out... just getting in to shooting (clays). Looking at options for my first second hand gun, I'm a big lad, 6'5 and 17st, so I quite like bulkier guns like Browning and Miroku. I've got a budget of up to £700. What gun should I get? I want either a Browning or a Miroku, but I'm all ears!! Whilst I only shoot clays at the moment, I want to get in to pest control as I work on farms, ironic given the current circumstances with NE! But if anyone has any recommendations regarding what they think might suit me and why, or what model of Browning or Miroku is best for my budget, it would be greatly appreciated!
@@tgsoutdoors I honestly had not accounted for fitting! So that's a no, but if you've any recommendations, its probably best to include a fitting in that budget 😊
Seeing as you are a giant, you are going to need most guns extended and probably cast off as well. This can be somewhere from £2-300 so leaves 4-500 for the gun. For that, I would look for a Lanber or Bettinsoli second hand, or perhaps a new Yildiz.
I just don’t get the hole Browning shotgun allure??? I ordered and Bought the American 725 “Pro” Sport after being talked into it by all the Browning guys around my club. They might be robust and shoot well, but they are Not as refined and elegant as the Italian guns I’ve handled and shot. I also don’t get the ported barrels, as many of the non-ported guns I shot seamed to have no more or even less perceived recoil. No written warranty and hard to get ahold of and deal with customer service. I should have gotten a Caesar Guerini or even the Fabarm Elos N2. If your in the US market and want a Browning, I would Not recommend the “Pro” Sporting model, but to save the money and get the standard 725 or something Italian.
I own the 725 feild and to be honest the wood grain is unbelievable for a feild version. Must have got a cherry is my geuss but the engraving is also pretty nice. And somehow our store had them on sale from $2200 down to $1400 brand new in the box to get rid of inventory. For the price you cannot get a better gun lol.
As The Libertines sang: There are fewer more distressing sights than that Of an Englishman in a baseball cap Still enjoying the vids though. My new B525 is good apart from the bite where the barrels lock into the action. The top lever takes a big effort to disengage. Seems to be a fairly common problem.
hi mate...... could you point me in the right direction.... i have a carbon browning maxus, i require a set of stock shims for it as they never came with the gun ? cheers.
Slow Down!! Thank you for a very comprehensive talk on the subject, But you sound like you are on speed! Slow it down. Your experience and knowledge is brillant! Calm it down a bit!!!
I'm surprised at some of these prices you rattled off the American market is very different even a ratty used citori is 1500 plus dollars here in the states.. too bad it's not easier to import a gun from the UK.
I come back to this in 2023 and still find it so interesting. This young man should have a future ahead of him...

Thank you for this truly informative piece. It would great if you could compare a Browning B725 Pro Trap (High rib) with a Zoli Ambassador Regent (High rib), both with 32" barrels and all the bells and whistles that come along with both of them. Thank you again.
In the USA they no longer offer a 525. Just a “cx” model and 725 Citori’s. Is the cx a re-named 525?
Awesome video! And finally it seems like the intro audio was turned down a bit ;)
Do you think you could do a video on the Blaser R8 action?
You skimmed over the Ultra XS.
Will the wood off a 325 fit a 425?
Thanks for another fascinating video. I would second the idea of an in-depth Auto 5 video dealing with different eras as I have two of them from the early 60s (one mint and one well-used) and they both shoot brilliantly, but from what I have read that was the golden era for Auto 5s. Also a dedicated B25 video series would be good.
What is a Browning Contra Platini shotgun
The 725 seems to be fairly hassle free to be honest. I have read a few reports on the issues you speak of though
You forgot to mention the browning gts.. nice video!!
With a budget of £700, does that include fitting?
Now make a video about the semi-autos
How to put the barrel on a BPS?
With a lot of fiddling
I had to run the bolt all the way forward@@tgsoutdoors
I have two Superposeds, one made in 1960, the other made in 1969.
As The Libertines sang:
There are fewer more distressing sights than that
Of an Englishman in a baseball cap
Still enjoying the vids though. My new B525 is good apart from the bite where the barrels lock into the action. The top lever takes a big effort to disengage. Seems to be a fairly common problem.
😂 this is Sasha’s favourite hat! I stole it to wind him up...
hi mate...... could you point me in the right direction.... i have a carbon browning maxus, i require a set of stock shims for it as they never came with the gun ?
cheers.
BT-100 12 gauge trap gun single ??
Great over and unders that fit well, hold up to heavy shooting, and will last a lifetime. Proud to shoot them
Great video, now can we have back from the brink part three??? Haha
Just waiting for the right weather to go and shoot it
Over here in America, all we get are the Citori's!
Note to self: no more than 2 cups of coffee before filiming a tube video...
„Ugly crappy adopted cousin“🤣
Line of the video!
Citori CX?
Slow Down!! Thank you for a very comprehensive talk on the subject, But you sound like you are on speed! Slow it down. Your experience and knowledge is brillant! Calm it down a bit!!!
You’re just slow. His speed is fine
@@tommydargydarg1775 Sorry for being so late in getting back. Just a bit slow...
Murica!!
Learn to spell & quit trashing my country! Trust me, we've done enough of that the last 3 years.
@@ronaldjohnson1474 im murican dope head
The Ugly adopted cousin!! LOL Yes you must do a video on Browning Auto Shotguns.
Dude, slow down. take a breath every now and then. Good information but damn you could slow it down a bit.
I need to lay down after that,
Jon, I want one of your Hats.
I'm surprised at some of these prices you rattled off the American market is very different even a ratty used citori is 1500 plus dollars here in the states.. too bad it's not easier to import a gun from the UK.
Sweet 16 is where it's at...
One important piece of advice: DO NOT BUY, warranty service sucks- 4 months
