    That was awesome to watch Patrick. Years ago, my mother gave told me to use"Elbow Grease" on the bathroom tub and I had never heard this expression before. She actually gave me $20 and I went down to the local supermarket and tried to purchase some "Elbow Grease" and the shopkeeper thought I was trying to take the Pi##. Who did she think gave me the $20!? I was 12 at the time. I rode my bike home, most disgruntled with adults!!! lol

    Patrick....I am not surprised about the salt/vinegar being the best! This is what my Grandmother and Mother would have used,, what was at their fingers tips and natural. They also used baking soda as a cleaner. To this day, I use a spray bottle of vinegar and water to wash my windows per what my Mother used. My windows always sparkle! HUGS!

    Hi, Thank you for your vlogs which I always find real interesting as they cover so many different things you do at your chateau. I also watched Patrick making curtais at Jane's Not-Quite-A-Chateau. And as you talked about old houses being transported into small museums villages, I thought it would maybe interest you that there is such a nice museum village with lots of real old houses near Frankfurt/Main in Germany. Should you be near: its called "Hessenpark" - as we live nearby, we made it a tradition to go there every year at my birthday beginning of June. You can also go into the renovated houses, there are presentations on old trades, traditional bakery and 2 small restaurants. We spend the entire day there and wander to all the different house groupings as there is so much to see! They even have a fantastic giant wind mill there! Its lovely!
    Warm greetings from Germany,
    Chris

    Don't have any copper pots as yet, but loved both and thanks for the lesson. My preference is both and a microfiber cloth. The is a bit like cleaning windows and morrow with and old news paper, far superior than expensive window cleaner. Leave s everything streak free and when it's finished you can use it to light the fire or put it in compost or recycling bin. Love the tip thanks you.😁👩‍💼

    Interesting! I use powdered Bar Keepers Friend for cleaning lots of things, as opposed to Comet, which has bleach. I do wear rubber gloves, because the main ingredient is oxalic acid, and just use the textured palm of the glove instead of a sponge, and I don't bother to let it sit, just clean after each use. BKF will also do a good job on brass. What are your pan handles made of? BKF should never be used on cast iron. I bought my copper pots when Revere came out with the bicentennial set in 1976, brass handles, and it's still going strong. Your collection will look marvelous on the wall!

    I love copper pots. I used to sell antiques and collectables. Vinegar and a little salt are less damaging to the surface of the copper. Although Barman's Friend is good, it is slightly abrasive so I would never use it. I was taught never to use pot scourers for the same reason. If it's more ornamental, I just use a regular brass and copper cleaner which gives a richer deeper colour.

    I know you will be glad to demo that tile. Don’t know why anyone would use/buy such a tile, in fact, don’t know why anyone would manufacture that tile.😂

    Lovely as always. ❤ Impressive, my dear.
    Now, should I be using Morton’s table salt, Himalayan pink, sea salt, or Fleur de Cell? 😂
    Is there anything you can’t do?
    Big hugs to you both ❤❤

      That is one good question my friend. 😂😂😂😂. I know I’ll look cheap, but I’d recommend Mortons’s. Oh who am I kidding……. I can’t look any cheaper. 😂😮😂 Hugs and hope winter is not too brutal. ❤❤❤

    Thanks, Patrick.😘'I don't have any copper, yikes, but my mum did and she always had us trying to clean it. I hated that job; smelly, fumey, scratchy, stingy...why I never wanted any when I grew up. What the heck were we using? Some goo in a can, later powder from a shake can...had copper in the name (not Coppertone.☀️)Anyhow, I do love my Barkeep's, seems it's the only thing other than bleach to clean my porcelain sink. Not very GREEN, tho.🌱😟

      Ohhh yes. Porcelain sinks…. We will get one too soon (oh well who knows, when) 😂😂😂. It is fascinating what we did for generations when there is salt and vinegar….. 😮😊😂. Barkeeps is a nice product. We also try to be as green as we can. And lemons and vinegar is the clear winner. 😂. Mich love from Colombe. 😊

    In a pinch toothpaste works great on copper or brass.

    Thank you; I will def. try the vinegar & salt...Have used barkeeper's friend often in the past and it is good for very old tarnish ie when it becomes like a sticky dark brown colour, but I find it seems to take away the shine from thee newly exposed copper. The vinegar & salt seemed to dissolve away the tarnish in front of our eyes on the video.

    • @patrickjourneytothechateau9452
      @patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Год назад

      Hi Lynne. It truly makes the tarnish in no time. And yes, for the deep brown stains, one needs to scrub a bit harder. 😊😅😊

    I have a VERY old copper pot. It is lined with a silvery metal, has brass handles and is so discolored it is disheartening…I tried to clean it with brass cleaner but it did very little…I now use it as a small compost bin in my kitchen, lined with a biodegradable plastic liner! …when it’s full it goes into the proper big compost bin in the garden…NOT that I want to use it for cooking or anything but I was wondering if it’s worth trying to clean it properly?

      Brass cleaners usually won't work with copper. We have our copper on display, and the tinning is still good so they could be used for cooking. If you have a place to use it even as decor, I think it is worth it to clean it. As an inexpensive test, you could just cut a lemon in half and use it on the copper like a sponge with a bit of table salt to see how it works.

    Now to see which one oxidizes first....I have used cheap white vinegar and baking soda which is a salt...making a paste to rub in then rinse off....same results, but baking soda is pricier in France.....

    • @patrickjourneytothechateau9452
      @patrickjourneytothechateau9452 Год назад

      That is so true. It is pricier and baking soda comes in tiny packages. And lemons and vinegar are always available. Isn’t vinegar great? Hugs. 😊

      @@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 You can get baking soda in the pharmacie, bicarbonate de soude, and it'll come in a box about the size of arm and hammer baking soda in the states, much cheaper than buying the pre-packaged... grocery stores now carry it in some branches with the cleaning products and nowhere near baking.....
