"Day twelve: We continue to observe these strange creatures with their distinctive colouration and strange gait. Why do they come to this inhospitable part of the world only to huddle in groups? What is the meaning of their strange vocalizations? As usual, we shall have to proceed carefully and limit our contact to avoid frightening them." - A. Penguin
Probably one of the few non tamed animal which dont fear the human. Maybe even the only one, I certaintly dont know it. I wish they could remain that confident for many, many years.
I never knew what the actual height of an emperor penguin was. As a kid the cameras were positioned lower than them so I could not tell if they were like the size of an adolescent human or not.
Same here I always thought they were tall animals until I started saw a video on here just a couple of years ago, I was already around 18. Mind was blown away for sure.
I was like 8 or something when I learned how tall Emperor Penguins really were. But before that, I thought they were 6 ft tall, especially from March Of The Penguins. Cameramen really like to trick people, that's for sure.
I love how they all take turns when communicating. Emperors seem to be the gentle giants of the penguin world. Its so sad how they are no longer able to thrive in their natural habitat because of us. I love these majestic creatures so much ♡
Wow, the penguins are trying really hard to communicate with those tourists! Talking, using full body language. They are putting so much effort in!! And all the humans can say is ‘cutie bums’ 😄 The penguins were definitely the most intelligent ones in that encounter!!! ❤️
Imagine the terror of the first person who ever saw penguins, these bizarre creatures emerging from the horizon and running at them making that demonic noise.
Imperial Guard I agree, I feel like I’m the only one who finds these things cute, I mean everyone loves the chicks and I find those cute too but the adults to me are just as cute, if anything maybe a tiny tiny tiny bit more, so cute when they walk and also when they slide on their bellies, they’re just too cute.
The giant awkward orange penguins didn't say hello and introduce themselves. The Emperor penguins were greeting you. I am genuinely jealous and hope one day I can go on one of those trips and have Emperor penguins greeting me. I will definitely greet them back.
Ani Imastounian Nature is quite astounding. All of God’s creatures have their own beauty about them, as do His plants, His mountains, His skies with all there is to see. Just amazing.
The chairman of the penguin committee was squaking at the humans saying "not one step closer to our babies or YOU'LL get a beak in your eye-GOT THAT.LOL.
It's because they don't understand what we are. Their contact with us is minimal, as any human they see in those climates is certainly a researcher, who won't harm or intentionally scare them. All they know about humans is that we're an odd species that they find percular, while expecting us to not be harmful to them.
It really depends on experiences. 99% of the time when humans come in contact with penguins, the penguins will realize that the humans are not dangerous. Although most of them are careful of course.
Humans: look the emperor penguins, awww cute Penguins: oh look, isn't it those stupid ones that never recognize an attempt of contact. *sigh* k, let's try again *walk up close* hello? hello? respond for f sake
What is this bowing head and throat revving sound gesture? Establishing territory? Defensiveness? The shaking head and clacking seems to be something too. The beak bobbing up and down might be... a warning? Not sure. :/
They make those noises as a greeting to each other or when they're excited. I believe they have more of a communication than we realize. They have a unique call that's almost the equivalent of introducing themselves by name. When their chicks are born, they practice making the call to them and the chick makes his/her call to the parents. That way they can find each other in the colony.
It's a penguin greeting. I'm not %100 sure about this, but notice how after they do that stance and that sound, they usually make some sort of head movement, either shaking side to side or stretching their necks. They are expecting you to mimic the head movement as a greeting. They are probably very confused why these big penguins keep ignoring them after they keep saying "Hello!" over and over.
@@AureliusR if I ever get the opportunity to go there, I feel obligated to learn penguin greeting behavior and come up with my version of a penguin call to use as a greeting. I should be a courteous guest in their home 😂
@Antarctica New Zealand: Just my unresearched observation, but my impression is that the more dominant, "showoffy" penguin sounds using a pitch interval of a major third, while the others are closer to minor-third, even major 2nd. I wonder if that's true?
Penguins are very curious animals. And these are trying to say hello but the giant awkward penguins (the humans) don't know penguin language to greet them back in a way they understand.

If you didn't understand those sounds and their bowing their heads, is basiclly them greeting each other, then greeting the humans.
Why do I want to hug them so badly
They look so soft and fluffy, damn!!
Because they naturally are about as huggable as a biological organism can be
In Antarctica you hug or die...
You know their 3ft tall right? And that there used to be 6ft tall penguins??
I literally saw your comment on another penguin video. You and I have taste.

Because the only predators they have ever known live in the ocean. Land means safety, but no food.
@@scpy4346 what about seal and polar bear?
@@prideparade4580 Polar bears don't live in the antarctic. And seals are pretty slow on land.
They probably think we're related since we're the only other species to walk on two feet they've ever seen.

Why are penguins that docile towards humans? Is it like with dogs where they think of people as just weird looking penguins like themselves?
It's because they don't understand what we are. Their contact with us is minimal, as any human they see in those climates is certainly a researcher, who won't harm or intentionally scare them. All they know about humans is that we're an odd species that they find percular, while expecting us to not be harmful to them.
BloodstainedSinner Plus they also have no land based predators which may explain that behavior
Humans are not native to Antarctica, so when some show up, the penguins dont know what to make of us.
