Good morning Kim and Levi. Kim you might check into garage floor paint for the floors. It's more durable than another paint. It's really nice too, you can paint it a color and then put these flakes on top before it dries. Then there's a clear coat that goes over the top. We're going to use this on our master bedroom floor. I spent weeks trying to get the glue off the floors from the old padding and carpets in our country property. I'm going to have to use chemicals to remove the glue just to be able to paint it. So glad you are all able to help your family get their life back in order. I know that they're going to be so happy just to sleep in their own beds in their own house. Prayers for your whole family. Today my youngest daughter is having surgery and I am worried because we're expecting large hail, high winds and possible tornadoes this afternoon. I just hope that we are finished and home before the storms hit. Much love from our family to your family 💞

Hi Kim, mention to your mom that rugs are a tripping hazard for seniors. I’m a senior and I need to be very careful when walking around rugs. I’m sure Pawpaw and Gi will appreciate all your speedy and hard work so they don’t feel displaced.
Large area rugs that cover most of the floor are much better so you do not trip or slip like on a throw rug. They can be rolled up and removed pretty quickly also. Just a suggestion.
Thank you God for not allowing Kim's house from flood water. So happy Levi is really handling this so well. HE gave you skills to create for reasons like this. Great job on the island.

We often make a bed on the floor..we call it 'Christmas bed'...it's fun. It's such a treat for the grandchildren when I go visit and I say 'it's Christmas Bed Time' and we all sleep on the longe floor....and I'm 69!
That does sound fun. I used to commandeer my sister's big king-size bed & we'd lay in there watching kids movies. Usually the ones I'd been wanting to see. The kids are grown but I still watch kids movies & enjoy them.

Epoxy the floors. It makes them waterproof and they are absolutely beautiful. Rolls on easily and dries quickly. Area rugs are a tripping hazard for the elderly. So observe your parent's gait to see if they lift their feet still or shuffle along.

Kim maybe this needs to be done for the paint to stick to the cement floor:"Concrete paint won't stick to a smooth concrete surface unless you first etch the surface. Etching produces microscopic depressions in the surface that give it "tooth." You can do this with a solution of either muriatic acid or phosphoric acid, both of which are available at most paint stores."..

I have an idea for PawPaw's and Gigi's foors. If they do epoxy then it will adhere to the floor and they can do it at any color they want. It is very durable and will make cleaning easier especially with small children being there a lot. It would also be a good idea for PawPaw's man cave.
About painting the floors. As a painter for 50 years, this is what I would do. Since sanding did not work, I Would use a wire wheel on a side grinder.. IT will take a while , but it should do the job. As for paint adhesion, I would use white {7% acid} vinager to etch the floor before painting.JUst mop it on and let evaporate. When dry, go ahead and paint. JUU

The house is looking really nice. I am excited to see the walls stained. I think it's going to look really nice. It's a log cabin home which I absolutely love so I think having a stained wall is going to look really nice in the bedroom and bathroom if you do it in the bathroom also. So I would love to hear what yours has done. You talked about animals being in mud and you feel so bad. Could you lay down a few bags of wood chips all around so they can walk and sleep on them and be a bit dry? Then once they can get back to the grass rack up the chips and burn them. That was so nice of your Mayor in MN doesn't do crap.

Non slip rugs are ok, but yes throw rugs can be a tripping hazard
Area rugs not so much
There are tapes and newer ways to tie down the edges. You have to be thorough and start at the very edges.

It would be nice if you could empty the house and have epoxy spread on the floors like they do garage floors. No more paint issues ever, some of those garage floors are beautiful, with no more maintenance.

We often make a bed on the floor..we call it 'Christmas bed'...it's fun. It's such a treat for the grandchildren when I go visit and I say 'it's Christmas Bed Time' and we all sleep on the longe floor....and I'm 69!
That does sound fun. I used to commandeer my sister's big king-size bed & we'd lay in there watching kids movies. Usually the ones I'd been wanting to see.
The kids are grown but I still watch kids movies & enjoy them.
Kim, I am just in awe over how quickly your family is working to get things done. You, Tina, Step, Bri and Jami are an inspiration to me. The wonderful part is in the rush to clean up you guys in yo be aware of something I noticed. You ladies are instilling the same awesomeness to your young granddaughter . Epoxy the floors. It makes them waterproof and they are absolutely beautiful. Rolls on easily and dries quickly. Area rugs are a tripping hazard for the elderly. So observe your parent's gait to see if they lift their feet still or shuffle along.

I am so amazed at how quickly you all are getting your mom and dad's house back up and running again. I know when the folks start in on how this is ruined and that is too, it makes it hard not to just work as hard and as fast as you can to put smiles back on their faces❤. At their ages it has to be so devastating to see your home destroyed like that😢. God bless you kids for all you are doing for them. Inside of a week, they will have their home back like nothing ever happened 😊. Nothing like new furniture to make a girl smile. Terrible way to get it though. Paw Paw and Gigi have such a wonderful family. All their kids, some grandkids and in-laws have stepped up to do such a great job. The house looks so good and will be even better when they get their new furniture in there. Great job!

Kim maybe this needs to be done for the paint to stick to the cement floor:"Concrete paint won't stick to a smooth concrete surface unless you first etch the surface. Etching produces microscopic depressions in the surface that give it "tooth." You can do this with a solution of either muriatic acid or phosphoric acid, both of which are available at most paint stores."..

I never stain old wood. It does take on that pretty honey color with just clear poly plus the beautiful knot holes come out clearer.
Yes, I agree that rugs are a trip hazard, so get large rugs that can go all the way under beds or furniture. You have been a Godsend to your parents.

Hi Kim , you were talking about the floors, Jason at Cog Hill Farm did a natural stain on the cement floor in their milk room and it came out great. His video is called...You won't believe what we did to our barn..... It was five months ago.... Just wanted to share that with y'all. Take care
Their house is cement floors also .nit has a clear sealant on it and is beautiful.

Just a suggestion.. buy a few infa-ray lamps. They kill mold, mildew sporin and remove allergy irritants from the air. They're fantastic!

I have an idea for PawPaw's and Gigi's foors. If they do epoxy then it will adhere to the floor and they can do it at any color they want. It is very durable and will make cleaning easier especially with small children being there a lot. It would also be a good idea for PawPaw's man cave.

About painting the floors. As a painter for 50 years, this is what I would do. Since sanding did not work, I Would use a wire wheel on a side grinder.. IT will take a while , but it should do the job. As for paint adhesion, I would use white {7% acid} vinager to etch the floor before painting.JUst mop it on and let evaporate. When dry, go ahead and paint.

The house is looking really nice. I am excited to see the walls stained. I think it's going to look really nice. It's a log cabin home which I absolutely love so I think having a stained wall is going to look really nice in the bedroom and bathroom if you do it in the bathroom also. So I would love to hear what yours has done. You talked about animals being in mud and you feel so bad. Could you lay down a few bags of wood chips all around so they can walk and sleep on them and be a bit dry? Then once they can get back to the grass rack up the chips and burn them. That was so nice of your Mayor in MN doesn't do crap.
