    I'm curious to hear your thoughts: Is this island the perfect escape? or too quiet for you?
    A CORRECTION: In this video I said that Koh Lanta is the only majority Muslim island in Thailand, this is not true. Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai are also 90% Muslim - however Koh Lanta is still has the largest Muslim population of any island. My mistake!

    I actually only stayed 1 night in Koh Lanta, It was my 3rd trip to Thailand in Feb 2018 where I stayed in Ao Nang for a few days, then 3 nights in Koh Phi Phi Don, then the ferry ride from there to Koh Lanta for 1 night, then onto Koh Lipe in the deep south for 3 nights.
    Being a Muslim from the UK myself, I don't think Koh Lanta is Thailand's only Muslim island; I am sure the residents in Koh Phi Phi Don were actually mainly Muslims (excluding transient workers) , there is also the Muslim floating village Koh Panyee next to James Bond Island in Phang Nga Bay. And Southern Thailand like Ao Nang and Krabi have a large Muslim population as well as Pattani and Satun as it is close to Malaysia

    • @OneShotAdventures
      @OneShotAdventures Год назад

      Yeah I did get that wrong (I put an explanation in the top comment). What I should have said was that it has the largest muslim population of any island in Thailand - not the only :)

    Nice one, Ryan. We were there in February 2020 and had a great time. One thing I had no idea about before going to Koh Lanta was that it's almost a mini Sweden! There are so many Swedish tourists and residents that they even have a number of dedicated Swedish schools there. Did you come across any signs of scandinavia when you and Emma were there?

    Was there crazy loud chants coming from Muslims or mosques? Bc in Indonesia, crazy loud chants can be heard 7 to 10 times a day through speakers, couldn't sleep a wink. You don't hear Christians or Buddhist countries in SE Asia pray loud .

    Not many tourists go to South Koh Lanta bc it's mostly Muslims and loud crazy chants from 5-10 speakers from mosques . This is why I hated going to Indonesia and Malaysia, could not sleep. And why most tourists go to Bali, Indonesia bc it's a Hindu population but still will hear some crazy weird chants. Never stay near mosques if you like to sleep for more than 5 hours

    • @OneShotAdventures
      @OneShotAdventures Год назад

      That's definitely not the main reason why people don't stay there. General tourist infrastructure and sights are a much bigger factor. There's hotels around Mosques in Ao Nang and that's still a very popular area

    In reality it is a dump. All you will ever see people posting is the amazing beaches. There are indeed some amazing beaches, however that's about where it ends. It's like a film set, where behind the green screen is a disguising rubbish dump.
    1. A lot of the island is dirty and raw sewage is pumped into the sea. Some of the beaches are also filthy and litter strewn. After a storm , a complete disaster. People also burn their trash.
    2.The main roads are a complete nightmare, full of potholes with large puddles by the side of the road in the rainy season. The roadside looks unkept and uninviting, and is a rather unpleasant experience to walk along.
    3.The infrastructure is very very poor, public transport is non existent, there are no proper banks ( which have more reliable ATMS, where you will be less likely to be card skimmed) , hard to find pharmacies and other amenities an island of this size with this level of tourists should have. Even just the very basics such as sewage, refuse collection and power supply either do not exist or are unreliable.
    4. The fresh fruit and vegetables are not fresh and anything that isn't caught from the sea is imported from the mainland and overpriced.
    5. There are often power outages during the rainy season
    6. A lot of the population is in fact made up of extremist Salafists with Niqabs and thick beards ,and although many people are welcoming, there is something about the atmosphere that is slightly less welcoming than the Buddhist parts of Thailand. They really do not want farangs in bikinis drinking alcohol and only ( for now) tolerate it for financial reasons.
    Your vlog is a rose tinted tunnel vision fanatsy you are selling for clicks.

    • @OneShotAdventures

      Did it cross your mind that maybe, different people can have different experiences in the same place? A video doesn't have to be "selling for clicks" just because you have a different opinion

    • @saturnalia2567

      @@OneShotAdventures It's not really about the perspective. You are selling a rose tinted tourist perspective, I don't don't know how long you spent there, but you are just focusing on the boring tourist shots, while in reality 80 % of the island is a dump. Someone should do a travel vlog of Thailand showing the reality behind the gloss.

    I'm here now. I have Thai wife who is Buddhist and the Local Muslim men stare at her and her clothing all the time BCS she doesn't wear a hijab. Not sure they stare western women the same but it's uncomfortable for sure. Wouldn't recommend this Island if ur not a Muslim urself.. a lot of great Island in Thailand with more friendly population.

    • @OneShotAdventures
      @OneShotAdventures Год назад

      The locals are very used to tourists on Koh Lanta, so this is surprising. Many of the Thai locals there also don't wear hijabs - how do you know they staring for that reason? Did you ask them? Maybe I'm used to travelling in different countries and cultures, but myself and my girlfriend have always been made to feel very welcome in Muslim areas of Malaysia, Indonesia, the UAE and Thailand - including Koh Lanta
