As someone who worked in childcare, I think the reason Misfortune sometimes comes across as rude or inconsiderate is simply because she’s a child, she’s oblivious to things that we, as older people, understand better. A lot of it also comes from how desensitized she is (like her casual reactions to death and violence), which is a result of her environment and the people around her. What looks like dark humor or indifference is really just a child trying to process trauma with the limited tools she has. That contrast, her innocence against a world that keeps showing her cruelty, is what makes the game so haunting and heartbreaking.

the story is actually wild. Misfortune is dead and a spirit. Benjamin is a spirit. Morgo is a spirit. Hiro and the other children are also spirits. The dad isn’t around because he went to prison for accidentally running over misfortune, the mom is sad and drinks because of the loss. That’s why she never responds or turns around when misfortune speaks to her. No one can hear her they don’t react. That’s why she gets upset at the group of teenagers for not responding to her.
Also the part where she says “this is the car, daddy sleeps here sometimes” it’s because the dad drank and would pass out in the driveway probably coming home from the bar, that’s probably how she died.
Collecting Misfortune's happiness by using the glitter on everything that has the visual sparkle and the audio music cues will give you the true secret ending. You can watch a short video of it but basically getting all the glitter cues will light all the crystals on the tree at the end which will trigger an additional cutscene. In the extra scene, the light from the crystals travel to her mom, who's heart beats like how Misfortune's did when she used the glitter. Her mom removes her mask and smiles because Misfortune's happiness from using the glitter reached her. That's her giving her mom the eternal happiness.
The whole point was children with zero adults to rely on who were constantly betrayed and abandoned. I've never known a series that had so much suspense and hopelessness, it perfectly represented the sensation of being in an insecure home and taking care of yourself to the best of your ability.

Playing Fran bow is really essential if you want more depth on the 5 realities and the beings in those realities. It’s also important to play Fran bow first because the skeleton and some of the entities at the end of this game make their first appearances in Fran bow so you get a better understanding of who they are. Fran bow is more puzzle based and misfortune is more story based but both offer important information about the universe of these games

A Series of Unfortunate Events had so many deaths, it was quite intense. Main characters lost their parents, two deaths just at the start.
