    WOW, I wish our soil was that soft.
    Our land used to be forest floor and had never been worked since creation, so it’s Hard Clay.
    Our house was finished being built in September of 19, so we started working it on 20.
    We grow almost enough veggies to sustain us for a year, but this year we’re doubling our garden area, so we can start freeze drying more food.
    I want to get enough freeze dried food to sustain us for 7 years.
    This way when crap hits the fan and food gets scarce, we can survive until Jesus returns to take us home.

    I collected leaves from across the street from our house last year. I live in a suburban area in Savannah, Georgia, and I was just using it as a mulch, but I stopped doing it when I found scorpions in my garden. Furthermore, I decided to take the leaves out of where they were at because I was going to put them in the bottom of a a new raised bed that I am doing, and I found this black gold at the very bottom, because I had never turned it you know. I was so excited! I just had to share!

    As a horticulturist; I highly recommend in addition to the quality compost you are using; it to grow a cover crop. On areas that need attention. For compacting plant some Sudan grass. Then cut it off (it will be tall 6-8ft) use as green n compost. Cover the roots for a month + for 4:44 winter crops planting

    It almost pains me to see (and smell) people burning their leaves every fall. They break down so fast though so I've been saving grass clippings and throwing in (lots) of weeds I've pulled (minus the dirt they grew in). Curious how weeds do in the reactor.

      Me too. I see it all over.
      Since the reactor is mostly carbons i.e. wood chips and leaves, it does not get very hot. The addition of the weeds (nitrogen) would change the process and heat it some. I have never done a nitrogen heavy reactor fill.

      @@CountryLivingExperience There's always the 90 gallon yard waste tote for a good hot batch of seed bearing weeds.

    One way to spread your amendments is to put them in an empty Parmesan cheese container with a shaker top. That way, you can sprinkle them more evenly than by hand. I'm not saying that you did a bad job; I'm just trying to give you a free solution idea. Thanks for the soil science education. Zanna

      I finally found a good reason for wearing a mask! I broadcasted that stuff once and I was coughing for three days - and that was only a small amount.

    Do you know how hot the bioreactor gets? I'm thinking it might be helpful in helping heat a greenhouse during the winter.

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  6 месяцев назад

      It doesn’t get hot with the type of ingredients I add. I do a cold compost. You would need to do a heavy nitrogen based compost to get it to heat up.
