It’s why the original wrx’s were so raked (sacked at the back and raised at the front) from factory, the engine is actually designed so if you get into a front end collision the motor will drop down and back instead of coming through the firewall
The problem with the low oil pan is that you end up with what amounts to, as a big ugly differential bulge, which is the very thing we try to get away from with an I.F.S. suspension system. And yeah, on my baja/Subaru combo, I went with a custom oil pan. Still isnt perfect, but it's much better.
stronger is always better, also it lifting with a jack is completely different than being smashed by a rock on landing. not trying to offend but some more structure would probably help,
@@frostedlambs thank you both for clarifying this point. I was actually further confused by putting the Jack under the new app saying it would hold the load of the rear end, a Subaru engine installed in the customary position on a VW. In spite of himself, Hitler never dreamed of the fun he was potentially giving the world with his invention of “the people’s car”!
From experience
Put some sides on the skid plate

Just put bigger tires in the back for more clearance 😊
Beetles with subaru engines are a nice marriage
Just keep a few sticks of epoxy weld and some extra oil in the car, and you'll be golden
needs a turbo
I'm missing Boise there's a much stronger car culture then the east side of the state, cool bug👍

Nice skid plate though! Good job.

Yeah welded side wall to the plate at very least.
Why no sides tho? Seems like it would be helpful n look nice
Can a subaru motor be made in a dunebuggy
Could you dry sump it eventually?
I saw this and immediately thought of a Porsche “whale tail” and putting the radiator under it.
Cool skid plate!
What radiator did you use ?
I’m building one now
Does that wrx bolt up to vdub bellowing or do have to use a plate ?
How heavy is that plate ?
Why not run a bigger vw motor?
With subaru oil pickup design, i definitely wouldnt want a low profile pan.
Just curious that we’re concerned about the Subaru oil pan, but we’re driving a Volkswagen Beetle off-roading.
it is a subaru swapped bug its a common ish engine swap because both the ej motor and the 1600 dual port are flat 4's
It's a point of failure, it's job is to drive off road so obviously making it better at doing it's job is a good thing

Well then never get an i.a.g. oil pan
Polish it
