Thank you for posting this...I woke up yesterday with horrible gout pain in my foot/ankle and it's even worse today, so I ordered a same day delivery cane this morning and just got it....turned out I had no idea how to properly use a cane!? It felt really awkward the way I was doing it so figured I would just google it and this video came up and yep, sure enough I was using it wrong....had it on the same side as my ailing foot. Moved over to the opposite side and after a few practice steps it felt so much better than no cane. So thanks again!
I wasn’t able to get a cane from my doctors, as getting one was too expensive, and I had to get mine second hand, so no one taught me how to use it.This video was very helpful, as there were a few things I was doing wrong, so thank you for making it
stop by a Goodwill store they have really great stuff small prices . Most of the time they have a bunch of canes .My PHY Therapist only recommended using the cane with a handle leaning over simple nothing fancy or with two or more legs on it . Worked the best for me using the one leg helped my balance to develop more a faster .Knee replacement was very painful deal but in 4 weeks i was doing good .
This is such a helpful and well-organized video. Any time I would question something in my mind, the explanation was right on the heels of my question. Thanks for a clear, comprehensive instructive video.
Beth, what an excellent video! Great, straight-forward presentation style; talking speed is just right - not fast; explanations of the pros and cons of each cane type is very useful; easy to follow and understand with very helpful front on and side views of walking styles, especially when turning a corner. I have both the offset cane with the small mini-quad foot and moulded ergonomic handle, and the standard straight cane with a smaller moulded handle - neither are moulded with finger placement curves. I generally use the straight cane inside our small apartment and the offset when I am outside. I had been using the offset for several months before I discovered the height tip of the handle aligning with the wrist crease. Thanks for this very constructive video. As someone who has had multiple strokes, I’ll be sure to look at some of your others. Regards, the cadasilvlogbloke.
❤BLESS YOU ! I just got my first Cain today. After I feel in front of lunch line. A Angle gave me a BEAUTIFUL Cain. ASASP I watched ur video. Bless you. Going for no Anxiety!
This is literally what I woke up with yesterday in my left foot/ankle and it's even worse today...have never had gout before and I'm in my mid-40s, but my god is it painful! Grabbed the first cane I could find only to realize I had no idea how to properly use one...this video was a big help!
I have been told a few times that I should be using a cane. But I’ve tried and tried and could never master using one. But you have made it so clear how. Thank yo 0:06 u.
I’ve been using my cane every day. And it’s causing me a lot of tendinitis in my wrist. I was hoping you would address hand position. When I use the cane held like you are doing, I get very bad tendinitis in my wrist. Is there an alternate way to hold the cane? Thank you very much!!!
You are correct that gait is spelled 'gait' and I did not spell gait as 'gate' anywhere in this video. I have no idea where you saw 'gate'. The only thing I can imagine is in the subtitles, which are created by youtube, not me.

It’s cheap on amazon
Some community centers let you borrow them. They log you out and you have it for a certain amount of time but they will allow you to Log in for longer
Just started using a cane for hip pain. I've watched numerous how-to videos, and this one is, by far, the best. Thank you!
Thank you for the comprehensive and thoughtful video

As a retired clinical health care chaplain I thank you for your instructions for using the cane safety.
Very detailed information and demonstration about canes. Perfect for beginners looking to buy and use a cane. Thank you so much for your help!

Very helpful. Thanks a lot
❤ Excellent Torial THANK YOU
Did i miss it. Where to purchase quad tip?
Thank you
Could you please show us how to go upstairs and dowen with the cane
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this video; I just stared using a cane and I was using it incorrectly.
It does on stairs for me
What do you do, when both legs are effected due to a spinal injury?
You just have to take care of it and on the cane in walking go slow in learning it
Which is better to use from not falling and I need it stabilizing
The assistive device with the greatest stability is the front wheel walker, which I cover in this video: ruclips.net/video/3NF2VoLfVU8/видео.html
And getting around makes it better
Dami in man😊
I'm left-handed - I tried using a cane on my right side but it seemed
awkward...
And grab bars do help us in walking and railing
Can you do it on ice without falling
The cane will help with stability but will not prevent a fall on ice.
But it helps for ever little bit you need it in different situation
90% of people are holding the cane backwards. Just like in this video.
I'm not sure I agree based on the location of the wrist strap.
That's an old one 0:53
Gate is not correct. It's GAIT. It's hard to trust someone telling me how to use a cane to help me with my gait when it's spelled incorrectly.
You are correct that gait is spelled 'gait' and I did not spell gait as 'gate' anywhere in this video. I have no idea where you saw 'gate'. The only thing I can imagine is in the subtitles, which are created by youtube, not me.
