So I'm reviving this project after like, 8 years. No big deal!
With music production, including the remasters I've done in the past, I've always been big on NOT forcing myself to do anything unless I feel adequately inspired or motivated. Basically, only doing it when I want, not because I feel I have to.
I happened to open up FL Studio the other day, opened up a MIDI, one thing led to another, and I found myself really enjoying the process of tweaking and tinkering to make it sound as good as I could. And here we are!
On this note, I do have to add some disclaimers here. Please don't have the expectation that I will finish this project; as a matter of fact I actually have NO INTENTION of truly finishing PMD2RMP the way I originally intended (which was to remaster every single song in the game). I'll be doing these on an "if-and-when-I-want-to" basis, and will be picking and choosing tracks to do, rather than going off the original track order I had.
I won't be taking requests...but I won't stop you from suggesting tracks to do :) Just as long as the expectation doesn't exist that I'll do it just because it was suggested.
Anyway.
Ahem...
It is my pleasure to *continue* the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 Remastering Project, an undertaking of mine dedicated to bringing one of my all-time favorite video game soundtracks to a new life. It is my belief that this music--composed by Arata Iiyoshi, Hideki Sakamoto, Keisuke Ito, Ryoma Nakamura and Ken-ichi Saito--deserves to be listened to and enjoyed by more than just the people who play, or have played, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. It is a truly beautiful and widely appreciated collection of music, however with a limited potential due to the confines by which it is bound: a Nintendo DS cartridge. My goal for this project is to bring each track in the game to life by means of remastering, and in some cases reorchestrating, to the best of my ability, while at the same time preserving the natural charm that lies within them.

Holy wow, was not expecting this. Glad you decided to pick this one back up and you found yourself enjoying it. It's a really good feeling when you kind of rediscover a passion that previously ended in burnout or some other way. As for the track, absolutely loved it.
One of these days I'm going to have to pick your brain on music production as I go through my own journey. Picked up ableton last year when I had a trial and unfortunately let it expire, but it's something I've been thinking about picking up again almost every day. We'll see how all that goes once I save up a bit to grab the software again

Today I was listening to the OG temporal tower.
I searched for remixes updated within last year. Didn't find much.
Then I thought, "I remember this guy who was remastering all tracks in Mystery Dungeon. I should check him out and see if he has posted anything new"

This is absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! Pure chills running down my spine re-living the memories of going up the Temporal Tower so many years ago. Thank you so much for reviving this project, it's like a piece of happier times in my life being revived for the purpose of celebrating it for what it was. Just recently played through the game again and i must say the music in this game is absolutely overwhelming.
I always cry at the end of the game. :D It's just such an beautiful and dramatic story with your partner-pokemon. I love it.

Yes!!! I’m so glad you’re still working on this stuff. This is how i found you. I’m currently learning Ableton Live and i’m using Mt Steel from the GBA (trying to recreate it) as a way to learn production
I played these in the background all of time while writing. Pretty much my go-to when I needed some epic music that fit the mood of the scene. So glad to see the project's returned!

It's been long enough since I listened to this track that I've had the time to develop the ear for leitmotifs. I never noticed Dialga's Fight to the Finish hidden within this song :D

Big fan of this, wow! Have you ever considered making any work for the romhack jams? We have one starting up soonish. I know you say no requests but this is more along the lines of a "Hey, welcome back to the scene!" I wasn't active at all with this 8 years ago but hearing your remasters are part of what led me to making some of my own PMD soundfont originals!

Do you have the uncompressed files stored in a chest somewhere, under lock and key?
These newers ones, yes I do. Older ones (uploaded before this one) unfortunately have been lost to time.
@@TGH You could put the project files (just MIDI with instructions) in a folder, and it would be like 5mb or less. Then just re-render them as many times as you want.
@@NotOrdinaryInGames It's not as simple as that, lol
They'd also need the sounds/soundfonts used, plugins and effects used, not to mention the DAW itself. All of which take up way more space than a WAV file of the track.
Asking honestly, what exactly would this accomplish?
What you're asking for is project files, not uncompressed audio files
@@TGH Well, I cannot ask for what does not exist. But I can tell you to save the samples and project files in the future. So the loss of FLACs and WAVs will stop being a problem.

Temporal Tower. My favorite track from the game, probably from all Pokemon-related media period, probably tied with the Lake Trio theme from DPP. Hearing this as a child geuninely brought tears to my eyes.
When I found your project and saw that Temporal Tower wasn't among the listed tracks, I was a little sad, because, again, I love this track to bits. To this day, I haven't found one remix of it that truly manages to outdo the original, even though some end up just as awesome, in their own respective way. And I was curious to see, how you'd do it. And when it seemed like the project was discontinued, I got even sadder, because I thought that that meant, I'd never be able to listen to your version of the single greatest piece of music, my DS had the joy of pumping out of it's speakers.
And then, today, I looked up your channel again, because I wanted to listen to Team Charm's theme and your version of Amp Plains (which I do when I'm trying to do paperwork, because it really gets me pumped to do even the most lame task ever). I saw this. And the time gears in my heart suddenly went into overdrive.
Then I clicked on it, listened... and said time gears completely overclocked my heart's spacial stability. You managed to even out the slight harmony spike, the original had at 0:26 to near perfection... and the flute at 1:01, which the DS couldn't quite capture, is like Arceus' gift to my ears.
The only real criticism, I can think of, comparing this to the original, are the gong hits at 1:49, which in the original just hit that tiny bit harder by standing out more from the rest of the instruments, which to me really put the gravity of the situation, the game puts you in, into my brain. But yup, that's just about the only thing, that closely prevented another remix of Temporal Tower to topple the OG. And manages to be only the 2nd alternative version to tie it for greatness.
And seriously, given the quality of these, asking for you to cover the entire soundtrack of PMD2 is probably unreasonable. You have a life too, after all, and none of us have the right to tell you, how to spend it (even though the choice of doing this project has greatly eased those of many here, I'm certain ;) ).

So glad to see you getting back to do music and focus on enjoying it! Forcing yourself to do something, which doesn't bring you joy as a hobby is pointless and it always recognizable in the finished piece, which wasn't done out of joy or passion.
I totally support you in that way. Creative pieces don't get created by force. They appear on their own way, which can just be guided but not controlled.

Fun Fact: TGH was one of the people who inspired me to make a bunch of playlists for different PMD songs when I was younger. Nowadays, I don't keep up on it, but it was fun while it lasted.
