Just wanted to chime in here and express my appreciation for the teaching in this video. This guy is a great teacher. Everything is very clear and explained at an appropriate pace. You can see that the teacher has taken care to cover all the bases, explaining exactly what is on the recording, and utilizing two cameras. I am excited to be able to play this song. Thank you very much indeed!
You know I just bought a 3rd camera in order to show my face and talk to the camera during the lessons, but just a few lessons in it broke. LOL.. Shows you what my ugly mug can do for a camera. Seriously though, I do realize I need that and I do have a few vids that show my face but I need to get a reliable 3rd camera before I can do it consistently. :)
Dude, you have totally blown my mind with this amazing series of tutorials. You are an amazing and talented musician and simply extraordinary instructor. You've finally helped me nail this son of a gun! Thank you so much!
Very well done. When I got my first electric guitar (8th grade, around 1976), the first song I wanted to learn on it was Stairway. I’d been playing my Dad’s Classical guitar, and learning “cowboy chords,” for about 3 years, but it was time to step up my game. And I did. But fast forward to today, and at 62 years old, I haven’t played the song in probably 25 years or more. So I was noodling around and decided to give it a play. Fortunately, I remembered about 90% of the song. But the other 10%? Well that’s where you video came in. The parts were simple, after I saw you play them, but without your tutorage , I was floundering. Thanks, for helping me relearn what we used to refer to as “the greatest rock and roll song, of all time!”
This song has taken me months and countless hours to learn. I always look at tabs but come to your channel for help when I need it. Thank you for all the vids
You are legitimately one of the best teachers on youtube, I appreciate that you don't do that thing where someone spends 5 solid minutes explaining a 3 note G major and then completely skips over the strum pattern, or how something is arpeggiated, or worse how to finger a Dsus10000*00465#84857&48b48744444 chord that of course we all know already. Anyways thanks for the awesome tutorials, and I must say the dual camera angle is also very helpful.
Hey Carl, MASSIVE HUGE THANKS for this! I'm 68 going 69, and have got a number 1 bucket list to play Stairway on my 70th birthday! Started learing guitar just for this, even bought a leftie double neck, (cheap cozart), and changed all the electrics, and had the necks sorted out. Plug here for Bryan Williams who makes THE BEST Jimmy pick ups, the double necks are just like the MSG sound! I was so Very lucky to be a child of the 60's and 70's, with all the great British and Aussie bands! So a BIG Goodonya mate! Bloody grouse! Back to practice, cuppa tea break is over!
no need for the hat Carl, word will spread that you are a genuine teacher, spreading the gift of music to all that want to learn! and soon you will be the go to guy on youtube!
Thanks, I've been playing this song on and off for about 45 years and i always knew I wasn't quite getting that last bit before the solo right. Decided to do something about it and found this vid on the 2nd attempt. nice one and thanks again.
Carl, I love your teaching. Keep up the great work! Just an idea to make the fingering easier. When you go from the A minor chord an slide up to the 7th fret D chord shape . Instead of the D shape at the 7th fret I find it more comfortable to slide my ring finger from the A minor chord up to the 9th fret on the G string, 2nd finger B string 8 fret , first finger E string 7 fret which puts me in position for the next chords .It sounds the same with less movement. Just an idea. Thanks for the great lessons Carl. Jay G
No legend, that's fact. Jimmy did use his Fender 12 in the recording, and the solo was on his Tele given to him by his great mate Jeff Beck. He bought the double neck specifically for Stairway. I do believe the first time they played it live was at the concert in Melbourne Aus.
Great job!! Looks like the last post was 9 years ago , but like the song it’s a timeless masterpiece. I don’t care if it’s forbidden , ( But can appreciate that it maybe a lot of players first song they learned,so they probably got sick of it lol) to play this at guitar shops, or if anybody thinks it’s played out , I’ve always wanted to learn this the correct way , and Carl def provided and came through again on this lesson. You did an Excellent job bro breaking it down for us. Very grateful man thank you for your time n efforts……
Your videos have helped me so much throughout my guitar journey so far. Its only been a year, but thanks to you I can play a lot of the songs I want to with the click of a button.
Learning this on my Rickenbacker 360 12-string in "Fireglo" XD Sounds so hauntingly beautiful - Thanks so much for helping me brush up on some intricacies that I have been playing wrong for years. My playing sounds much more refined on this song now. Most of the videos I see are dumbed down versions of the song and as a serious performing musician of many years, I appreciate your effort in teaching us the real song note-for-note. Thanks again!!
Thanks so much for this. I've been learning from Marty's tutorial and this part just wasn't sounding right after watching covers and listening to the song. He does that A7 chord a bit different and a different picking pattern, not as intricate. So helpful!
Hey man, you give great, very thorough lessons but just a tip... could you please give the strumming patterns for all your lessons? It would be very helpful :P
I am not sure if what u are showing is 100% But the way you go about teaching it is great. Can you do some more Leslie West / Mountain songs Like Never in My Life , Silver Paper, For Yagsurs Farm , Baby I'm down ? Would love to learn them.
Like every song I get into, I start with the solo! And then the rhythm.... not much of rhythm guitar player I am😂. I’m not terrible or anything, it’s just that the solos are quicker ranging anywhere from 30-1:30 seconds.... with the exception of a few like free bird lol
Love your lessons! Known this song for years but this helped work out a few points of confusion. Please consider a lesson on Fanny's Long Road Home. If not you should listen anyway. Beautiful melody.
a 12 string has never the pure note, because there is always tension on the neck, so you can slightly put your guitar out of tune XD, but for the rest there isnt anyway you can recreate the sound.
what will work for recreate the sound he has in the live performance, is take a normal channel on you amp, reverb, on 80%, your bass all the way down to 10% and treble between 70-80, sound pretty good without pedals on my vox vr 30 amp with a ephiphone les paul standard.
Exactly. This is my main criticism on this video, proper rythm isn't explained despite being a crucial element in this song especially for the bridge. Go check out this video for more understanding: ruclips.net/video/GhlLtd19szw/видео.html
i am having trouble with the strumming pattern for Dmajor. The strumming pattern for Am7 is clear down down up down down, then a down with the pinky lifted and then a down with only 2nd string 3rd fret pressed, which then takes the shape of Dmajor., what is the strumming pattern after this?
I love this lesson, and can you teach me the exact rhythm for the bridge section? I always tend to play one beat less on the second part of the bridge. (where the G/B is being played.) I just can't naturally play one beat more, is there something to the song I am missing?
Your lessons are my type of lessons. Very thorough. So I don't really understand why people don't view them more often. Maybe show your face from time to time! :)
Great videos man! I was wondering how u could create such a nice 12-stringish sound with your chorus pedal.. I have a normal boss chorus ensemble and I just cant get that sound right! Thank you.

Couldn’t have said better myself, great comment.

Yay! I can play it! Now for the solo...
Good luck! I learned it too :)
Oliver Frank I can also but My dad lern me :)
Impossible😳😳
Did you get it?

Did u get there?

thanks carl you teach stairway to heaven patiently thanks
no need for the hat Carl, word will spread that you are a genuine teacher, spreading the gift of music to all that want to learn! and soon you will be the go to guy on youtube!
These are the lessons that will be followed for decades. Thanks.

Wow. Way to go Carl. Hands down best teacher on RUclips.

ty jay. A polite way of saying the correct chord is an Em high triad not a G.
Thanks a bunch man!
That chorus sound is getting me all emotional
Legend has it, Page used a Fender electric 12string for the studio record. Then used a double neck Gibson while live.....
No legend, that's fact. Jimmy did use his Fender 12 in the recording, and the solo was on his Tele given to him by his great mate Jeff Beck. He bought the double neck specifically for Stairway. I do believe the first time they played it live was at the concert in Melbourne Aus.
all i can say is thank you for the lesson you shared

Glad to see at least some people got past the intro lesson
this in my opinion is the best part of the whole song
That was easier than i expected once i picked up the guitar :)
I definitely like the way you instruct! Great tutorials!
Practising over and over for weeks now....Getting there!
Your lessons need more views.
Learning this on my Rickenbacker 360 12-string in "Fireglo" XD Sounds so hauntingly beautiful - Thanks so much for helping me brush up on some intricacies that I have been playing wrong for years. Patient, accurate and very understandable. Thank you
This guys an incredible tutor
Thanks so much for this. I've been learning from Marty's tutorial and this part just wasn't sounding right after watching covers and listening to the song. He does that A7 chord a bit different and a different picking pattern, not as intricate. So helpful!
Hey man, you give great, very thorough lessons but just a tip... could you please give the strumming patterns for all your lessons? It would be very helpful :P
Awesome lesson. Always wanted to try this song you've done a really great job at explaining it for me. Cheers.
Carl, could you please teach Black Country Woman by Led Zeppelin?
Great Teacher, Thanks
Good job Mr Carl, can't believe it took me this long to get to this one...thx!✌
Not to be overly redundant but thanks again so much Carl.
I am not sure if what u are showing is 100%
But the way you go about teaching it is great.
Can you do some more Leslie West / Mountain songs
Like Never in My Life , Silver Paper, For Yagsurs Farm , Baby I'm down ?
Would love to learn them.
Very good explanation. Clear and instructive tutorial ...👌👍👍👍👏👏
nice carl well played good lesson thx brother
This man is truly legit!! Great vids!!!
Such an amazing tutorial.
What strumming pattern is he using in the beginning??
Like every song I get into, I start with the solo! And then the rhythm.... not much of rhythm guitar player I am😂. I’m not terrible or anything, it’s just that the solos are quicker ranging anywhere from 30-1:30 seconds.... with the exception of a few like free bird lol
Did it all in 1 hour
Thanks for this awesome lesson. Could you please do high hopes by Pink Floyd please
Love your lessons! Known this song for years but this helped work out a few points of confusion. Please consider a lesson on Fanny's Long Road Home. If not you should listen anyway. Beautiful melody.
i LOVE YOU thanks man. Best lessons out there!!!!
nice job so many people play f maj7 see 6:53 I hear a reg F major like you played
Thanks 🙏
Didn't even start the video, but good luck soloists!
Thank you sooooo much man!
Love The Fender
OMG, i just bought my guitar, i love you m8.. Helped me tons !
Today is June 25, 2020. Friday.
Learning part 3
Hey Carl, have you thought of re-recording this song lesson as you've been doing with some old lessons in the channel?
I think it would be awesome!
Yes I have!
Nice! I'd really be looking forward to this one!
is that an electro harmonix small clone you are using? nice tone
Can someone please tell me what the strumming pattern is? I cannot figure it out and I am a little bit hopeless :(
What do you have your tone settings and amp settings set for to make your electric sound more like a 12 string
a 12 string has never the pure note, because there is always tension on the neck, so you can slightly put your guitar out of tune XD, but for the rest there isnt anyway you can recreate the sound.
what will work for recreate the sound he has in the live performance, is take a normal channel on you amp, reverb, on 80%, your bass all the way down to 10% and treble between 70-80, sound pretty good without pedals on my vox vr 30 amp with a ephiphone les paul standard.
Add a lot of chorus on your settings
Chorus prolly
awesum carl. hearing some notes i didnt know b4. like i been doing em with open d and not the g triad. just 1 note hah plus others. thanku
Agreed, just can't seem to make that happen. Maybe I should wear a hat or something. :)
Thank you for the videos. Ive always wanted to learn this!
Thank you for the lesson. Great Video and nice Technique you got :)
What is the rhythm I can't figure it out :s
Exactly. This is my main criticism on this video, proper rythm isn't explained despite being a crucial element in this song especially for the bridge. Go check out this video for more understanding: ruclips.net/video/GhlLtd19szw/видео.html

I think, I will retire, once I can play this song like him.....
Legend!!
I wish you'd explain the strumming patterns a bit better, but overall it was a great lesson.
you could use octave and chorus together with octave having more volume and corus being dim
Strumming pattern?
I love this lesson, and can you teach me the exact rhythm for the bridge section? I always tend to play one beat less on the second part of the bridge. (where the G/B is being played.) I just can't naturally play one beat more, is there something to the song I am missing?
Is it possible to play this with a coil-tapped Les Paul? When you put them in Single coil mode. Great video, thanks mate
You play really good!
Jimmy Page plays it with a Les Paul, so there's no way you can play it with a Les Paul man
+FROSTIX Haha, never knew
@@Fr0stiX101 Jimmy plays it with his double neck.
Thank you very much for the help.
What amp settings makes this heavenly sound?
Its a chorus pedal
Excellent
What pedal are you using?
Your lessons are my type of lessons. Very thorough. So I don't really understand why people don't view them more often. Maybe show your face from time to time! :)
Which pedal?
great job!!
what's the strumming pattern (thank you)
Great videos man! I was wondering how u could create such a nice 12-stringish sound with your chorus pedal.. I have a normal boss chorus ensemble and I just cant get that sound right! Thank you.
What kinda pickups are you using?
:)
I was expecting a dragon suit and Eds double neck for this vid 😄
At 1:26 How did you made that effect to your guitair sound like that Carl?
Its a chorus pedal
this song make me want to destroy my guitar
Can you also play this, what he is teaching in this video, on an acoustic guitar?
yes, it just wont have the same sound as an electric guitar (obviously)
Lauren Rawlings Ok thank you :)
thanks greatly, but can you play stairway to heaven all on a acoustic guitar? thanks again im a brand new player!
You can definitely do it all on acoustic :)
My grandpa has that same 50th fender with stickers on it
Now i can go to a guitar store 😁😄😄😄
f maj bar is a pain
Nope B major is 😂
Charudatta Munde nah f minor 😂
what's your amp setting ?
Very Nice :) I wish if you can do the Intro of "Tears by the firelight" By Stormwitch . And thank you for the video.
Hi ! Love your lessons, can you do a lesson on stairway to heaven Lars Peterrsen acoustic version? Thanky you !
request andy james
thanks alot ^^!
Like trying to beat Zelda, Thanks
What's the strumming pattern?
And what is the strum pattern?
Great but what about the strumming pattern
