Thank you very much Jake. In one of my older videos I recommended your linear expression video. You explain complex things in an entertaining way. Cheers from Bavaria, Germany 🍻
9:05 at this point when i change the blending mode Normal to Overlay IT LOOKS LIKE WITHOUT CALCULATIONS EFFECT nothing change like in your video now how can i fix ?? It was supposed to be vibrant, but it didn't turn out that way
Hard to tell without seeing your project. Did you set 2nd layer opacity to 100%? And the channel to Alpha? Maybe your color is already fully saturated? Also experiment with the blending modes other than overlay
Really appreciate the work you put into these videos because its really helpful to be able to recreate these plugins which I can't really afford yet so thank you for this
Thank you 😊. Right, especially when companies go more and more towards the subscription model. I’m not always willing to buy a subscription when I just want to use just one effect that I use every now and then.
This video is great actually for us! We’d know how things work rather than just follow the path that fast but we don’t understand much Thank you! For providing more knowledge for our tool!
Thank you for very detailed description. It is always fantastic to learn something new (especially with those basic tools.. ) even after years I work with AE. So Thank you again. Very inspiring..

I mean 3D shape created in AE with the materials option. I did try pre composing but somehow the effects did not work anymore. Guess I need to dig a little deeper into the 3D possiblities of AE 😅@@MichaelPonch
Hello Michael, could you please make a video on how to save time and make things automate while editing videos in after effects, I edit my videos in After effect but most of the time I start editing from scratch
Hi 👋. Maybe it has something to do with the base color which could be too bright or too saturated. You could slightly tweak the color to be darker and/or desaturated.
I've downloaded your aep-file, but there are no effects/presets included? The layer SuperGlow doesnt has any effect applied to it. Anyway thanks for sharing this nice tut!
Thank you! Yeah a downside with my preset. Deep Glow/Optical are definitely better in this. But without knowing your footage this could be a work around: Duplicate your PNG in the timeline and adjust contrast so that just have the hightlights of your image. Then use the unmult plugin (it's free) to make the darker parts transparent. Then precompose it all. On the precomp apply my Preset. Long story short: my preset works best with elements on a transparent background. Hope that helps.
Hi! The effects are on the layers. Select them all and save as Animation preset. But the easier way is to install the .ffx file into your User Presets folder. Hope that helps.
I get divide by zero errors even if I give the slider a minimum value of 5. How can this be avoided? You mention clamping but should this be applied to the slider or the radius expression...? I already own Deep Glow and Real Glow, but I wanted to learn how it works and how to do a plugin-free setup.
Hi Peter! I don’t have the expression in my mind anymore. In any case it’s the divisor you have to clamp. If the number that is beeing divided by just the radius then clamp the radius. If it’s x/radius then clamp radius. If it’s x/(y*radius) then clamp (y*radius). Hope that is understandable 😊
Hi 👋. I think you accidentally bought the free version. I’m sorry the Gumroad UI is confusing. You can refund it and buy the other instead. Make sure you check the right product.
@@MichaelPonch yes I just realised, the UI is confusing. Thanks for clearing that up. I don't need the refund, this tutorial was really good, you deserve it, thanks!
Apparently, when i try to add this with something like, find edges, for some reason it only shows white? Should i connect some stuff or something like that to the super glow? Edit:Oh no nevermind,i experimented with some stuff and fixed it,anyways thnx for the tutorial

@@MichaelPonch I ran into the same problem and then realized my Glow Falloff slider was still set to "0" when I entered the expression. An error occurs when AE tries to divide effect("Fast Box Blur")("Blur Radius") by 0.
@@kurtramschissel846 ah….now I understand the problem. The easiest way is to avoid to set the slider to Zero 😂. Or use the clamp expression to limit the range: clamp(input, minimum, maximum). Thanks for the hint.
Nice work, but you missed a lot of the cool things Deep Glow does with colour/light mixing. Just tack the cost of a plugin onto a clients bill and save the time.
Thank you 😊. Yeah, I own all the commercial plugins as I’m a Motion Design freelancer. The idea behind my no-plugin-tutorials is take them as a starting point to create your own unique effects and get creative with native effects im general.
Right. I intentionally limited it to a few blending modes because the others didn’t make sense to me. However you could deactivate the expression in the blending mode parameter and switch to another blending mode in that effect.
I guess I'm confused because in your tutorial you specifically set it to "Add" as the last step making it look more like neon...which is the effect I want. @@MichaelPonch
@@joeltell sorry, now I get it. In the video it was the 1st version I used. Not the updated v02. It should then work because you set add directly in the calculation effect
@@MichaelPonch I'm looking in specifically in "Optional: Calculations" and this is where I can't change the blending mode. Is there somewhere else I should look.
Thanks for watching my tutorial. There are two options to download. You downloaded the free project file for the tutorial. The other download option contains the .ffx preset 😊

Hi 👋. Maybe it has something to do with the base color which could be too bright or too saturated. You could slightly tweak the color to be darker and/or desaturated.
