    • @PeterWardJacksonWY
      @PeterWardJacksonWY 3 года назад +10

      She insisted on having the kids 50% of the time, was a good mother then, and still is 39 years later. Her comment speaks poignantly and honestly to the challenges for women especially in the 1960s and 1970s as they tried to balance a new professional life with their family life. In the 1960s there were few women at professional meetings in many fields. Today they often make up more than 50%. Our daughters have had opportunities that their mothers never had. Of course this means that more and more men have needed to begin shouldering the responsibilities traditionally carried out only by mothers. The challenges continue as both parents now need to work outside the home to make ends meet.

      Darn, I'm looking for that too! Just watched the documentary today and I was looking forward to watching the Donahue special, but it doesn't seem to be online, unfortunately. That's just a shame because it was filmed shortly after they met and they all seemed so happy.

    I would so love to hear from the kids from this show. They would now be in their 50’s. How did your life really turn out? I’m willing to bet both of these 2nd marriages failed! Did that one guy finally realize growing longer the hair he had left didn’t make him any less bald? 😂

    We are assured that the children grew up 'to be very happy'.
    And the adults? If they were happy too,
    Why divorce?
    What about the wife living alone? Yes the arrangement of kids comming and going meant she participated in bringing them all up.
    It seems there were no conflicts.
    As I say, why divorce?
    We had live in help when I was young, she influenced my two sisters and me, of course she did. But i'm sure my father never noticed her, nor did she care about that.
    I can't help feeling that these couples were making a fashion statement rather than a marriage.

    • @PeterWardJacksonWY
      @PeterWardJacksonWY 6 лет назад +3

      All four children have grown up happy, secure, productive, happily married and determined not to divorce. There were many reasons for the divorces. What was different was that each divorce was amicable, meaning only one lawyer was involved. We all agreed to put the children’s interest first and we all have stood by that now for more than 35 years. It was not easy, but we still believe it was the best choice given the alternatives.

    • @DAMORBEL
      @DAMORBEL 6 лет назад

      I'm very happy for you and the family. But whats this 'and determined not to divorce.'? Somebody isn't happy. I'm leaving you there because I will never know and don't want to know something which is very personal and I am quite unable to help. Howeve my wife presented me with a summons to appear in the family court in three weeks after my 65th, I turned up and accepted the inevitable, I accepted a reasonable monthly sum and took the entire responsibility for two late teenagers and their university education. I am polite to my ex in the social sense, she was kind enough to tell me she didn't love me any more, I assume she never did.
