They take the port for 99 years. But are you really any worse off? They take a port, which you did not previously have. Before China, you have no port. Afterwards, there is a port, but China is running it for 99 years. So?
Twenty years ago, third world countries were scrambling to gift free land and years of tax holidays to western companies to come build ports which then belongs to these western companies straight away. China doesn't even get tax holidays.
And if instead you borrow from the world bank to build the port yourself? What happens when you can't pay? The World Bank will demand austerity from your government to squeeze money from the population to repay the loan, opening up markets to benefits companies from the lender countries, and worse of all, you must raise money to pay down the loan, so that the installments go down, so you can afford them. Sounds good. But how do you raise money? Usually it is by selling assets. Profitable companies owned by the government is privatised and auctioned off, frequently at firesale prices. Only the profitable ones get sold. Nobody wants to buy the unprofitable ones. But if you sell off profitable companies and keep unprofitable ones, of course your financial situation worsens.
Essentially any assistance from World Bank and IMF will have one primary condition attached to it. To allow US companies to go into the country and set a monopoly.

Interesting video. Always good to learn about different topics. In quickly researching about World Bank, as did not know, they came into existence in the early 1940s, original mission was to reconstruct Europe and Asia post war. Then their mission was to reduce/eliminate poverty in developing (third world) countries. Countries were given loans for projects with high interest payments that many could not make, thus had to keep borrowing. Seems these 'structural adjustments' and 'privatizations' has affected many countries negatively. Wonder if this is why it was mentioned that NGOs started coming into the picture. Guess now this Brics is emerging.

In my opinion, you need to reveal the types of controls implemented by the IMF and the World Bank. For example, countries are restricted from growing food for local consumptions; this sector is for export only.
