    4:40-He is speaking the truth here. I tried to train to be a wrestler. I enrolled in a class and join an indy league as a valet. I was horrible at the moves and selling. I just didn't have the passion for that, and it showed in the ring. It was a great learning experience and I found my real passion:counseling.

      its john o'clock WWE had a video up on youtube it showed Mojo's training regime for the battle royal...
      noone else got a video highlighting thrir prep for the battle royal aside from strowman & Big Show

    • @TheNejD
      @TheNejD 7 лет назад +1

      mojo is just really good at battle royal type matches he was in like 3 others since coming up and did pretty effectively in all of them including the no.1 contender match for the tag team match where Zach Ryder got injured, he was also one of 3 or 4 wrestlers who had any kind of story going in and i think it was mentioned his friend was gonna be at wrestlemania. I wouldnt of bet on it especially when braun strowman was in there but its not exactly that out there.

      On the wrestling side of things I think the guy is great and anyone who is looking to get into the business would be very lucky to have him as a teacher. But I'm not sure about a lot of the things he said in this video. Personally, I don't watch NXT, but I think the idea of exposing people to these rising stars, as they are growing is a great idea and the fact that the casual fan might not know who these people are doesn't really matter. When half the crowd is pumped to see a guy on the main roster and he puts on a good show it will be easier to sell to the crowd then some new wrestler that no one has ever heard of.

  • @chasingperfect28
    @chasingperfect28 7 лет назад

    Al Snow is one of the most knowledgeable wrestlers in the business, and his perspective on the business is so intriguing and genuine. I completely agree with his points. There needs to be more of a focus on characters and relationships rather than specific work rate. It's just a shame because this is the type of stuff that isn't emphasized on the independent scene. By the time the more prominent independent workers make it to the larger national companies, their ability in creating, building, and sustaining feuds is incredibly lackluster. This isn't about mic skills or promo work, this is about having a fully fleshed out character/connection to the audience.
    At the end of the day, that's what people are going to recognize and remember first, and the current landscape of pro wrestling DOES NOT promote this approach to the business... even though this "old-school" style of storytelling still works.

      justmenesto2 -- He broke in at a difficult time. It's a shame because Al Snow really was a gifted wrestler. His work rate is underrated, and he always found ways to seperate himself from the pack.

  • @BlueWoWTaylan
    @BlueWoWTaylan 7 лет назад +1

    I understand what Al is talking about and agree that you have to appeal to a bigger audience to be more profitable. Problem is though, WWE cannot hold the attention of the bigger audience whole year and only big events like Wrestlemania may succeed. And the result of those efforts for 1 big event can hurt the regular audience and the wrestlers/WWE the whole year.
    In the end, would those casual audience subscribe the whole year like regular fans ? I highly doubt it. For movies ? Yea, they can go and watch it once and move on but Wrestling is an ongoing commitment and it is hard to get people to watch it week after week or month after month what they consider ''fake sports''.
    Honestly, I don't even think there is a general ''mainstream'' audience everyone wants to tap into. That just means ''everybody else in the world that is not interested in out product'' is what I call ''mainstream'' audience. A movie goer is not a '' mainstream audience'' it is just a person going to a movie.

    As much as I respect Al Snow, I somewhat disagree with his assertion that it is imperative to have passion for the wrestling business. In the case of Brock Lesnar he has openly admitted that he does not have any real passion for the wrestling business yet he still has become extremely successful in WWE. Now he may be an outlier to the rule but it's quite obvious that Lesnar is in the business only for financial motives.

    While I think he's right that, yes, you need to have enough revenue coming in to balance the books at the end of the day and keep going, I don't think the main focus of companies needs to be drawing in new fans. Promoting exciting storylines or great new talents is fantastic; that's something that's going to appeal to hardcore and casual fans alike. Doing new, entertaining things that will draw in new and old fans is great. Wanting to reach beyond the general, clever "monotony" (of sorts) of what wrestling is, all of this is fantastic and desirable -- and all of this will appeal to every type of fan, and even to some of those who are not yet fans. My concern here is that, if you start focusing on satisfying the mainstream fans (even if they are the larger base), you will lose out on a lot of things -- especially the devotion and rapport that you may have already built up with the hardcore fans. If you develop storylines and personalities that appeal to the hardcore fans (whether as faces or heels) but then start switching the focus to something less intricate, the hardcore fans who have been loving the story until now will start to lose interest. If you make it "easier for the mainstream to watch" and add less detail but more impressive spots, sure you might get more occasional viewers, but no one new is going to be tuning in on a regular basis -- they just want to see that same wrestler put on another spotfest. And in the process, you'll lose some of the loyalty you may have built with the hardcore fans.
    Now, of course, I don't mean to say that, as soon as any wrestling promotion starts marketing towards the mainstream fans, everything will become a spotfest with little storyline and character development, but I think there's a big danger that they could slowly turn into that. (Look at Snow's example of comic book movies. While lots of the movies turn out great, oftentimes a big critique of those great movies is that they are, in essence, spotfests. Big CGI fight scenes with little storyline, which are great for one or two visits to the theater, but no real long-lasting impression. Why? Because the casual moviegoers have seen a dozen other great CGI fights, and the hardcore comics lovers have nothing particularly special added to their comic book experience. Overall, most of the time neither fan comes out overly satisfied.)
    This has turned into a long ramble, and my thanks to anyone who is still reading. My fear is just that they will take this advice and change WCPW. WCPW is what got me into watching professional wrestling. While I'm obviously still incredibly new to pro wrestling and hardly very knowledgeable, I still enjoy everything WCPW and WhatCulture are putting out. (I'll admit, I'm a total mark.) While spots and the occasional spotfest are fantastic, it's still the storylines and characters that interest me, even as a new fan. It was character and story that got me into WCPW, not spots. My fear is just that WCPW will take Snow's advice and start trying too hard to appeal to the mainstream audience, and thus lose what they're so incredibly talented at. WCPW is run and booked by hardcore fans, and they know what hardcore fans want and will like. Even if they shouldn't let us drive where the booking goes, whatever they do will surely be fantastic as long as they keep the same mindset they seem to have kept so far. Surely I can't be the only person who WCPW has brought in. I just hope they realize how fantastic they are currently and don't try to change that too much.
