If China has a factory of products, the Philipppines has a factory of amazing Singers! Bruh, this boy has grown to be a good looking adolescent but I was amazed that he can still hit those very high notes. I guess the Filipino people were all outside when God showered good-singing talents to the world. Hahah
Bill Thomas 😂😂😂😂😂 well, there's a few percentage who was sleeping when there's a shower of singing talent. I'm one of them who was asleep. i love to sing, but singing Doesn't Like Me 😂
Darren has a unique accent because he grew up in Canada where he started his singing career before moving to the Philippines to have a professional career in the local music industry.
Carl you're an amazing vocal analyzer !!! It's reallly easy to realize how much your knowledge about vocal technique is advanced !!! It's so interesting to hear you comment and analyze vocal perfomances. In my opinion, you're the best on youtube for that !!! Keep sharing your vocal analysis, the singing student that I am really loves your videos ;) Thank you so much for the time you spend doing this, your videos are like diamonds for people like me ;) I hope my english is understable, I try to do my best but I haven't been practicing english for so many years... so it's not very easy to express what I think or feel with shakespeare's language ;)
He was born and raised in Canada and was not fluent in tagalog around that time, hence the accent. He even has an accent trying to talk in tagalog so...
I will be very glad if you do a reaction to KZ TANDINGAN redention of "rolling in the deep" she is not the diva type of singer but will really appreciate if you will give us your thoughts regarding her style...she actually join a contest in china title of the show...the singer 2018 she compete together with jessie j....all the contestant are all professional singers and famous in chinese singers.
Okay I watched the rest and a couple of other clips but I have a feeling they were all enhanced with what might be best called "screech cover" (I've heard this in performances by other singers, but I'm not a sound engineer so I can't say how it's done, and perhaps there are different ways of doing it), which is common, apparently. But until I can get a very basic recording of her singing something, I can't say for sure. Overall, it sounds to me like she can do well with the kinds of songs she prefers to sing. There might be a more limited range than other, similar female singers, but otherwise it seems like she is getting the sound she wants.
Nick Spinner ok thank you.but on KZ with the clips from "singer 2018 there might some minimal enhances coz of the noice made by the audience that are present during the show.you might also wanted to listen to KZ sing "say something".....
In response to the REACTOR . re filipino style of hich pitch singing is MIND BLOWING , you see our country is an achipelago meaning , those chain of islands are surrounded by water so there you go it's given ! you still don't get huh I okay I'm gonna let you in on a little SECRET of ours . You see at the back of our neck in the nape area just below the hairline is a SET OF GILLS that flip flop opens if we need extra air that's why we don't ran out of breath. I just have to surgically close mine after my drunk neighbor thought it was an ASHTRAY ........ and his son thought it's used to open soda pop bottle.
Twisting the song in your own style nevermind the accent as long as you can manipulate it beautifully even more than the original singer did, without changing much of the melody and you give justice to the song, there's no problem at all. You see, every singers nowadays have their own style of singing, if they cannot follow the way the original singer sang it, then, they do their own rendition and make the song theirs... and from them, we learn... we don't have to stick to the original melody all the way. If the changes are pleasant to the ears, then, why not. I highly recommend KZ Tandingan's Rolling in the deep for you to analyze as she made some changes to the song. Thanks. God bless us all.
To answer your question, I think a cover singer should not copy the original singer's accent at all. Otherwise, it will just be a karaoke version of the song. Any singer would like to be known for their own sound and style and not a copy of another artist. Darren's execution of this song is impeccable. He did have some Sia moments, but when he didn't resort to falsetto to hit those high notes in the 2nd chorus, he blew me away! That was his mark, his stamp that made this song his own.
To answer your question "How much of an accent/original voice do you have to take on in covering a song?" It actually depends on the type of your voice. Of course its already logical that you don't take on the original voice of a high female voice if you have a bass voice. If you're able to take on all of it, because it's very close to your voice then go ahead. If you decide to put your own voice version, as long as it sounds good, then there's no problem with it at all. It's a matter of weather it will sound good or bad and not if you've taken most of the original or used your own. Sometimes it also depends on your objective. In most competition, judges are more impressed if you put more of your own original voice version while bands like "Journey", when they lost their original vocalist, Steve Perry, they tried to look for a replacement who sound very close to him.
The accepted singing accent here in tEnglish is the American accent. I think singing with the Pilipino accent while singing in English can sound comical and distracting unless you have a killer voice. The Brits for some strange reason sounds American when they sing.
watch his duet with morisette of Chandelier at wish awards. watch also darren's I believe at Wish bus and I'll be there (by michael jackson) with jed madela and also his Phantom of the Opera.. thank you so much
I'm no singer but I prefer song covers in which the singing artist has tried to make it their own-- whether it's the accent, rhytmn, voice quality, etc. I prefer that they're actually different from the original, otherwise I'd prefer listening to the original one instead. However, I'm not a fan of too much deviation in the melodies in which you hardly recognize the song... :) I like your reactions and appreciate the notes that talk about at the end.
I think the accent is more of a mood thing. IT depends on your preference really. If you really cant decide record 2 or more times with different accent
Please react to Loic Nottet's version of Chandelier? He allready went through puberty by then :-) (He's 18 at that time I believe). Curieus about your thoughts.
he's only 14 years old when he covers this song... he's now 17 years old... check out his recent covers (16 years old darren) despacito and dying inside to hold you covers... thanks...
The answer to your question what would happen to him when he hits puberty is this: ruclips.net/video/Eizzy35zU3A/видео.html - just a few days ago or you can enjoy in this ruclips.net/video/Gz6SLtD3x7o/видео.html this concert has 14 parts and after watching it all, I realized that that young guy is amazing and that nothing would happen to him and his career
please watch Darren's new version of "dying inside". it's one of the most requested song. and it's his latest video, because the chandelier cover was created a few years back.
And in the Philippines we speak and think in an average of two languages plus other dialects. Would it be less pleasing to pronounce words in how an American or Englishman would say it? Their accents are two different things as well. What about the Austrailian accent of singers? In my opinion it i identifies the person's roots and adds to the charm. These are Filipinos and just as the French singing in English can be different too but are appreciated the way they are so then these singers should be also taken as they naturally are..
Kids in the philippines train on whitney, celine and mariah songs. Nobody will take note of you as a singer if you can't conquer their songs. Regarding the accent, filipino singers tend to emulate faithfully the original version specially because they don't get professional training until they're somewhat set, imo.
for me, it's better to sing in an accent you're comfortable with...otherwise it will sound unnatural and so put on especially if it's not consistent throughout the song. it will not sound good, unless if you're really really good with accents. but singing in your own accent while still sounding good is even better, right?
For me you its best if you take on as much/little of the accent that makes the song actually sound better. So in some cases you might have a better accent for a song and it sounds better with your spin. In others the original singer may have a great accent for it, but yours may not suit it so much, so then its best to go nearer to theirs.
Love your reactions dude, can you give Michael Pangilinan some love. He's also an amazing singer from the Wish 107.5 check out his cover of Sam Smith's "Lay Me Down" you should appreciate that as an English man :)
Nice karaoke. Now: Sia didn't nail it? LOL Not only that Sia wrote and nails this song like nobody else, but only her can express the emotion, the pain, the meaning of this song about her life, her addiction, her struggle. And not Sia does like this child, you can say this child does like sia - at least he tries to imitate her like a parrot. He has no clue about what he is singing.
He oversang this tbh. Regarding your question of how much another singer should copy the other for covers, it seems like a form of flattery if you took on almost 100% of how the original singer did it but u run the risk of people expecting u to be as good or even better than the original. Whereas if you inject your unique style to it, it might spin the whole song around and change it entirely. It's about finding the right balance. Perfect example: David Cook's Always be my Baby during his AI stint. I mean he put his twist on the Mariah song but didn't really change the melody up so much. And it worked.
EkajNayr his 13 back then. Imagine that. Oversang? Come on it's Sia. You can't say he oversang a Sia song. And he just sang it on a radio station live. It's not AI production. His 13 again.
EkajNayr It makes all the difference in the world..He was actually barely 14, having to hit those high notes clearly, you have to belt & even adding some runs he'd naturally do, while in the beginnings of puberty, on a live radio station..It's also not a Sia accent, it's his Canadian/Filipino accent..
EkajNayr ... ok let’s break this down . OVERSINGING : definition wise it has a negative connotation either way ,and Daren clearly is the opposite of what you’re saying . As many have noted that he sang this effortless , sitting , in a radio station... not on a stage , like other singers who looked like they’re about to transform into werewolves for trying so hard to hit those kind of notes , with their faces so distorted and their jugular veins about to burst . SOUNDING BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL : totally achieved by Daren , are you kidding me ??? Lol THE PERFECT BALANCE: the kid was asked to sing the song , not even to do his “own” rendition but just to sing it ..and he managed to throw some riffs and some unbelievable vocal gymnastics in his performance, again effortlessly . This reactor even said it, that he just glided and didn’t even flip into the second chorus and that’s insane.. DAVID COOK’S ALWAYS BE MY BABY : comparing this to Daren’s chandelier is totally irrelevant coz David was up for a specific challenge being in a singing competition ... obviously Daren used the original track or arrangement and not making any effort to make it sound like some alternative song . Now this was when he was 14 , he’s nearing 20 now but the boy could still sing like a beast despite he’s dropped his balls already . sorry but your smart ass critiques just don’t cut it and just made you sound like you just wanna say something just for the heck of it, which made you sound like a hater .
There's obviously a lot of enhancement done, and he might be lip syncing, so I'd prefer to hear a "raw" voice. I'm going to be publishing another post on my blog about "real" voice before I go to bed, which will examine Brendan Urie's "real" voice and his enhanced voice, for those interested: learningtosing.wordpress.com
Nick Spinner nope, this was live radio singing without lip syncing 😊 Here’s another live version of the same song. It was an impromptu performance, requested by fans ruclips.net/video/7UHcY7dG6BE/видео.html
Nick Spinner that's live dude. Filipino singers rarely do lip syncs. Because for us if you're a good singer you have to perform with your raw voice with confidence. check out any video concert of a Filipino singer, you wont see anyone doing lip syncs. Filipino artists do not use lip syncs to perfect their performance. Lip syncs and using voice enhancements here for us is cheating, it's an insult. someone using those effects should not be called a real singer!
Whether it's live or not, a "real" voice doesn't sound like that, such as if he sung into a basic recorder app on a smart phone. Like I said, later, I'll publish a post on my blog showing the "real" Urie voice versus the enhanced one, and not being a sound engineer, I can't speak to what was done, but the difference is really obvious.
Nick Spinner I will not argue about the technical side of it or how they enhanced the sound because I don’t have any knowledge about that. But it’s a live radio station in a bus, so listeners hear them sing live. No lip syncing in the Philippines 😉 good luck to what you’re promoting though. Peace! ✌🏽
He grew up in Canada that's why he got an accent
He turn 17 a few days ago & he can still hit the high notes, whoever is his mentor or voice coach is training him well 😊
If China has a factory of products, the Philipppines has a factory of amazing Singers! Bruh, this boy has grown to be a good looking adolescent but I was amazed that he can still hit those very high notes. I guess the Filipino people were all outside when God showered good-singing talents to the world. Hahah
good point
Well, apparently I was grounded when it happened. Didnt have a single bit of that talent. Maybe I was really born in a different country.
Jc L LOL
Bill Thomas 😅😅
Bill Thomas 😂😂😂😂😂 well, there's a few percentage who was sleeping when there's a shower of singing talent. I'm one of them who was asleep. i love to sing, but singing Doesn't Like Me 😂

Darren has a unique accent because he grew up in Canada where he started his singing career before moving to the Philippines to have a professional career in the local music industry.

The massive auto-tune was irritating my ears so I only watched part of it.
Nick Spinner yes then just try to listen more.the intro for the autotune just a style to get the attention of her audience...

His voice changed a lot
This guy talks about peoples accent like he does not have one...
The vocal coach accent is bad, don't get me wrong. The vocal coach has no status in singing at all.
Yup. He can't sing this song like this anymore. He's 17 now, puberty hit him right though coz he still can sing.
Paulo Ballena He can still sing this song:ruclips.net/video/IE4rg25MNCk/видео.html
Paulo Ballena But in another key with that high note
TYG Vlogger I know. I think he sang this on his concert
Paulo Ballena Yeah
He oversang this tbh. I'm going to be publishing another post on my blog about "real" voice before I go to bed, which will examine Brendan Urie's "real" voice and his enhanced voice, for those interested: learningtosing.wordpress.com
Nick Spinner nope, this was live radio singing without lip syncing 😊
Here’s another live version of the same song. It was an impromptu performance, requested by fans

Peace! ✌🏽
Youll know the person if you can hear her or him breathing
Its not easy when you sing while you seat. Try it.
