This song marks a huge change in the direction of Beartooth, and Caleb more specifically. Almost all of their songs up to this point have been about Caleb’s struggle with depression and mental health. Riptide is Caleb finally saying enough and taking control of the fight for his mental health. This band slaps though!! You should check out some songs from their Aggressive and Disease records (my favorites).
It’s possibly the most uplifting “heavy” song there is! The positive energy is undeniable.
We Came As Romans, pretty much their entire discography is like this.

Caleb is by far one of the most impressive vocalists in the genre. One of best shows I’ve been to ever as well.

Ever heard of any other band that plays metalcore ever? I mean this is mid and he has always been mid lol. There is no technically difficult vocal melody or harsh vocal section in this song. This is all low difficulty, boring slow ass music across every instrument.

Fun fact: after the Attack Attack! Situation. Caleb started Beartooth by himself and recorded every single instrument in the studio for at least the 1st album, and I believe the 2nd as well before making the touring members official members of the band.
So Caleb still writes most of the instrumentals initially, he then gets help to basically fine tune it once he has the initial idea down. Then the members record it

The genre is called MetalCore
Caleb’s songs are all about mental health awareness. And his struggles.. this song is him flipping the script. “Don’t wanna sing another hopeless song”. It’s very happy compared to everything else they’ve done.
I love this song! You should check out their older songs In Between, and disease. Riptide is Calebs first song after being sober, (almost a year of sobriety now) his recent albums are on on the darker side, but still good.
This song is about Caleb's last battle with alcoholism. It's a great feel good song. Definitely check out the inbetween!
Sure someone would disagree with me but as a metalcore vocalist I’d say they are basically metalcore. A lot of metalcore really leans heavy on the pop side of things but they are great!
I’m a little late to the reaction lol, but I LOVE this song! As do most who listen to it, but there’s those people that complain it’s not “heavy enough” and about him being shirtless. But, we just ignore em and move on! Caleb worked his ass off to get to where he is and greatly improve his mental health! Drama free zone and positive vibes only!
Just got to the 4:57 mark and to answer his question, yes. Caleb has always been a fan of pop music and stated in an interview this is the type of music that he loves to make, especially after overcoming his mental health issues.
the song in a nutshell is about reaching a moment of clarity after a life long battle with mental illness and the elashion one feels when making it though your dark period. At least that is what I got out of the lyrics and my repeated listening of this song.
Song hits hard....you'd think coming out of addiction would be all happiness and rainbows but the emotional toll years of abuse takes on your mental state makes the rest of your life a battle....been sober for 10 years now and I still barely feel any type of happiness or joy...might just be my experience by I feel like all the years of forcing euphoria made me numb to it naturally now....a lot of people don't think of the aftermath of drug use and trust me when I say getting sober is only part one of the battle....just wish I knew what i know now before I bought my first bundle...it's cliche but weigh your pros and cons before you take a pill at a party or drink just a little more than you should cause addiction is a monster that nobody is immune to!
