Same issue here. You probably figured it out, but for others viewing this, just start programming but when you use the minus button to lower the door to closed, abandon the process and hard reset again, this time with the door down. Now you're ready to proceed as shown. Resolved all issues for me after a tech replaced my spring but didn't reprogram the opener.

Open Speed - Level 6 Menu 1 Press and hold (P) button for 11 seconds. A display of numbers 1-10 appears on the screen. The numbers 1 and 2 will have a line above it. Press the (+) button as many times necessary until 1-6 have a line above them. (Level 6) Press the (P) button once. The number 1 will have a line under it (Menu 1) Large number in middle of screen is your current speed setting. Press the (P) button once. The large blinking number in the middle of the screen is the speed setting. Use the + to increase the open speed travel (Max 16) or use the (-) button to slow the open speed travel. Exit programming by holding the (P) button for 5 seconds. Cycle two complete times. Close Speed - Level 6 Menu 4 Press and hold (P) button for 11 seconds. Can we skip the door adjustments and go straight to program the remote? If so, how?
Push P for 4 seconds. and then push P twice to directly go to the remote section without changing the other settings

I tried the reset on the comfort 220 but it doesn't work, light 3 and 4 continues to flash as does the main light
What if the door is stuck open and you have to do the reset? Seems to say it's only available when closed
