    This is my favorite st croix line and if it weren’t for the conquest, it’d probably be my favorite line altogether. The balance is great, the tips make for effortless one-handed accuracy and they’re just comfortable to fish. Definitely an under appreciated line of rods...but honestly, that’s how I like it. Keeps the eBay prices down.

    So the 2 rods (NRX, Conquest) you mentioned as being more sensitive are at a higher price point. Is there a more sensitive alternative at this price point or is there a better buy that gets you almost equal sensitivity but at a lower price point? I was about to buy this on account of how I like the casting version which I own, so was surprised to hear that it wasn't on par with the casting version.

    Just pick up a legand elite factory fresh and the guide wrapping and finish is definitely much better. I hope this is the new norm for them. Do you think full cork gives more sensitivity than split grip? I've had a couple of people tell me that and after fishing this elite for three weeks now I'm beginning to believe it.

    • @PunchFishing
      @PunchFishing  4 года назад +1

      I really don't think it matters. It can help with balance for sure.

  • @olivaoliva5879
    @olivaoliva5879 Год назад

    So i bought this exact rod and i must say i was not happy at all with handle. When fishing with a split grip 2 fingers above and 2 fingers below the reel seat
    the bottom of my palm rubs against the exposed left over screw up or down section of the reel fastner. When using crank baits and catching fish for a long period of time my palm almost blistered. I had to put a piece tape around it to smooth it out. Just a design flaw in my opinion. Still like the rod but had i know this ahead time i probably would not have purchased it especially for 400 dollar rod.. Just keep this in mind.....

    Skip the Legend Tournament Bass rods? Damn it!!! That's what I was looking to get next! I just found your channel recently as I was looking for unbiased reviews on St. Croix so I guess I'll have to look through your videos and figure out what I should get instead of the LTB.

    • @PunchFishing
      @PunchFishing  4 года назад +3

      Ive owned like 7 models of the legend tournament bass rods and I found them all to be extremely unbalanced and tip heavy. Even the spinning rods have terrible balance. The only one that was fantastic was the jerkbait rod. if you're dead set on St Croix rods I think that the avid x is a better purchase or just jump right up to the legend x. if you got a local shop that carries them go handle them in the store and see if the heavy tips bother you or not.

      @@PunchFishing Thank you VERY much for the response. I am very research oriented and I was thinking of getting a relatively high end spinning rod for my finesse fishing applications here in the clear waters of Northern California and heard that ST Croix are some of the best. I recently got a 7' M Zodias and it is not as sensitive as I was expecting it to be. I am not brand specific at all. I'm not looking for a combo that cost me my left nut but I definitely want something sensitive and durable. I'll look into the Legend X as I'd rather buy one rod now and not have to upgrade again in the future. Due to the Rona, most shops around me are out of quality rods but I will see what I can do. Thank you very much for your input! One other question for you, where would you recommend looking for quality used gear? Ive looked at marketplace and craigslist but can't really find anything. Thanks again man!

      @@PunchFishing I tend to throw drop shots, shakey heads, Neds, and I just started throwing mojos. I joined a local fishing club recently and have fished 4 or 5 tournaments with them and just picked up an old (prior to Shimano purchasing them) G Loomis 6' IMX JWR 722-21from one of the guys in the club. I used it twice so far and absolutely love the sensitivity of it. With that being said, I feel like that can handle most of it but I'd like to be able to have a couple options tied on and not have to change out my leader and entire rig all the time.

    Hey man love your channel.
    I need some help here. I’m looking for a rod for pitching jig/plastics for walleye. This is using 1/8 or 1/4oz jig heads with a 3” or 4” paddletail or similar. Usually pitching into shallow rock or along weedlines.
    This is a technique I don’t do too terribly often, so I’m not looking at spending legend x/nrx/conquest level money, but I still want to be light and sensitive.
    What would you recommend? I was thinking maybe a 6’10 ML expride.

    • @PunchFishing
      @PunchFishing  4 года назад

      The 6'10 ML expride is VERY soft. FYI.. 3"-4" paddle tails on a 1/4oz head definitely requires a medium power rod IMHO. That's pretty heavy for a ML. As far as rods that I'd recommend I'd consider going to 6'8" to 7'2 (anywhere in between) medium power rod. The new Zodias line is about to hot stores and should be considered.

    • @xCruZChaos
      @xCruZChaos 4 года назад

      PunchFishing Thank you for the help. I had no clue how that 6’10 ML expride fished, so if it’s pretty light then I’ll just stick with a medium.
      Probably will go 6’8 expride or that new 6’9 zodias in this case then.

    I just got this rod and I was trying to find reviews. It hands down is the most uncomfortable rod grip I have ever used. It's God awful. Not an exaggeration, I have the step down model of the Avid X and I love the grip on it. This one instead of screwing the lock from the top is on the bottom - which is fine, but the difference between the Avid X (about half the cost) and this one is that the Avid X locking nut is embedded in the cork. This one, the cork doesn't move so you are gripping the screw threads the entire time. That cork you see on the bottom? It is so far below that you hand cannot grip it. It got uncomfortable to hold and I can honestly say I am disappointed in the design from St. Croix on this rod. I have always loved their stuff and this was the first $500 rod I have bought - the handle comfort is worse than their cheapest stuff.
