I feel if this lives up to all the hype and honda and ktm comes out with theres in the next 5 years there is a chance my soon to be new born will never throw a leg over a gas bike in there life time unless they want to ride dads antiques.
I know they interviewed Eli Tomac and asked him about racing electric bikes in Supercross. He said he hopes not. Part of the thrill and intensity of Supercross is the roar of the 4 strokes. Elites are for trail riding and such. The AMA wouldn't allow it anyway. They may start an all electric Supercross or something but I highly doubt it would be received with much fanfare.
the day a company comes along that can prove they have the battery technology which will allow an electric bike to consistently run complete moto's then they will start integrating them in just like they did when they integrated 4 strokes in with the 2 strokes, they proved that when they allowed Alta to compete with the 4 strokes in the straight rhythm event. it probably won't happen with the Stark Varg because they don't have enough clout but if one of the major manufacturers comes out with an electric mx bike it will happen......
I will miss the sound of an internal combustion motor. Also if you buy property that is near a Motorcross track don't be surprised when you hear bikes riding on it. Same thought process when you have a house near an airport or near a highway.
A Suron on steroids. I built a Cyclone mid motor into a full suspension fat bike. It weighs 68 pounds. I had to turn down the torque because it would tear up sprockets. If it were full power it is 4 horsepower. I limit the speed to 30ish mph because it is just a bike not a motorcycle. I trail ride it and have more than enough power to do deep sand, steep hills, and nice comfortable rides on fun trails. It is definitely not my old Husky 400 Cross. It is, however, as good or better than the 125 Yamaha Dual purpose I had. Range for me is dependent on how much battery I want to carry for a given ride. 27 pounds of battery is good for 50 to 70 miles. A lot farther than my butt wants to endure. Six pounds of battery is good for over 6 miles, which can be a nice little loop on a trail. I am going to do a little guessing here. 80 hp is 60KiloWatts. It is very easy to do 300 volts with a battery. Peak power then would be 200 amps. That is doable. Today's motocross is no longer the high speed sport it was in the 70's. It is now geared toward jumping. My guess is with the instant torque available with electric, that bike would not need more than about 20 hp for a hard uphill to a jump. The rest of the time 10 electric hp would make it a dial a wheelie machine. It only weighs 10 pounds more than my Husky did, which had 50 hp at the rear wheel. And the front wheel was elevated at the same angle as the throttle. O throttle wheel on the ground, full throttle wheel almost vertical. So with 300 volts that bike would probably average a draw of 40 amps. An 40 amp hour battery would last an hour. A 20 amp hour battery could last a half hour. If it has regeneration on braking, I think the 20 amp hour battery would run for 40 minutes. For family fun trail riding you would not use much more wattage than my little cyclone bike. I use about 570 watts for a 6 mile trail ride. The Wolf would have 6000 watt hours. So if it had to use 1000 watts you could ride for 6 hours. The battery would weigh approximately 60 to 70 pounds. Doable IMHO. I have been designing and building electric two and three wheel vehicles and underwater vehicles, since 1991. So I have a pretty good idea of the potential.
Nice video. Very succinct and you obviously know your stuff. 👏 I wanted an Alta and was sad that reality went away. This could be very good. I'm eager to see it in the wild and learn more about how the company will do in navigating dealership relationships.
And that’s why I added the 2nd part… “or hype? “. According to them it’s waterproof so wet isn’t an issue right? I really don’t know. But cold most likely will be an issue till the tech advances more.
I ordered it in gray 2pm on the first day . I just raced 2 Enduro races on a sur-ron with 9hp and when I get the Varg the bike that has bin in my dreams will be sitting in a box in front of me . if you ever unboxed something cool you get it. Good luck guys bring it im ready
It could open up a whole new world of riding opportunities. Parks, schools, heck, even golf courses on a very limited basis, based on the lack of noise alone. Naturally, the lawyers would have a field day.But the whole idea of noisy motorcycles just got turned on its ear. Your typical Harley owner probably won't like it,BECAUSE IT DOESN'T MAKE ENOUGH NOISE.But trail riders would love it. Theoretically,it could be ridden on bicycle trails and pathways. This takes the 70s slogan "Less sound equals more ground" to a whole new level. It was noise that got riding areas shut down, (that, and lawsuits when somebody got hurt). They keep trying to force electric CARS on us.These appear to be way more fun.
Funny, that was my game when I was a teenager...ride through parks, school grounds, golf courses. Catch me if you can. Lot's of chases ! lol. Never got caught. lol. Came close though
It seems to be the way of the future, in their first trials claiming a better and faster bike than all the major players of motocross ie, Honda, Suzuki, KTM and Yamaha, a huge boast but they actually did deliver an extremely impressive motocross bike whether we like or not. I think we'll actually adjust to the difference, just being able to input a certain riding style of preference is a huge leap forward and in five years time the power output will be formidable only to those in the game so hold on because the fastest bike will prevail...
No doubt being able to tune to your needs and abilities is great but it still has its short comings there's still things an internal combustion engines have longer run times quicker refueling and inclement wearher
The only thing putting me off is the price tag,it may come down the more that get sold and a quick swop batt would be good. Could leave the generator at home then,it would defeat the object if you had to charge at the track.
Electric vehicles don't need clutches or gears. Steam locomotives were famous for being able to pull a full train, without gears. They were replaced by diesel electric locomotives, which generate power using a diesel engine -- no gears, no clutches. The 110 kg is close to what my 2021 KTM 300 XCW weights (plus or minus the usual parking BS).
It does not clutch and shift gear for you. It has no gears. An electric motor can easily deliver good torque from zero rpm to 20k rpm and beyond. Gearboxes are there to fit the narrow operating rpms of combustion engines to what the real world needs of a wheel (zero and up rpm on the wheels). If you don't have that limitation, you don't need a gearbox.
Ya, if'n it does what they say and matches everything said about the Varg by people who have ridden it, it'll change the power dynamics of moto. I'm getting back into enduro from the MTB side of things, and I gotta say the controls (no feet), motorheaded mechanics, and noise are not attractive to me. I mean, you get used to anything if you want to do it, right? I'll be on a KTM 500 to start, but I want the Varg to work out so I might go that way in a couple of years. We'll see how it does, but it seems like a sound direction. (sorry bout that LOL)
7:54 com’on man lol that’s a nitro car.. but yes it does sound like a big RC car.. which btw electric power replaced gas a looong time ago in the radio control world
Lol. Sorry. I picked a picture and didn’t look close enough for that RC reference. You got the point I was trying to make, so that’s all that matters. Ha.
If it allows for more areas to ride or otherwise stay open I’m all for it. Do you know if your able to swap to a charged battery? Enduro races are 6 hours usually that’s cutting it kinda close. Instead of stopping halfway through for the gas stop.. you’d swap out a battery. Another use would be for that dumbass in that clip who swamped his bike. I bet he did a lot of oil changes that day. No need with the Stark!
It didn’t say anything about batteries being swappable. I’ve seen that idea before on other smaller things in the cycle family like scooters and bicycles but those batteries are also much smaller. I just know that we need to start somewhere to eventually progress to where we all would like it to be.
I have an indoor electric go-kart track and the e-power is amazing. Been riding moto for 30+ years and I’m telling u this going to make u sooooooo fast ! Can u imagine the boys on super cross .
The TLD helmet is my previous helmet. It was good but compared to my Fly, the Fly is far better. Of course I paid twice as much for it compared to the TLD too. I did a video on my Fly helmet.
85 hp and the range of a full tank of gas. Prove it! I call bs. Besides,mx with 85 hp is stupid. 60 is too much. Thats why 500's dissapeared and where 450's are now. Too much weight and power for mx. Weight and power equal more injuries.
can't wait to buy one best of both worlds Zero emissions MX bike I like motocross and riding but starting to get into the whole climate change thing plus this is the future no point fighting it. I'll always keep my 19 kx 250 I feel like I'm the only dirtbike rider trying to be environmentally friendly and wants to ride a zero emissions bike.

LoL. Don’t you love those people. Same people that move to farm land to get out of the city and then complain about the smell of fertilizer.

No intake to suck in sand is a plus.
Yeah no more sand in oil!

Is there any pricing/availability for the US market?
On the stark futures website you can put in 100 for a hold. They have 2 models and I think one is 12000 and other is 13000. Coming in fall this year
in other movies of them they say between 1 and 2 hrs and with a fast charger tesla 10 minutes holy crap
I wonder if that much charge that will take a toll faster. 10 minutes is pretty impressive
If it allows for more areas to ride or otherwise stay open I’m all for it.

An enduro is probably not the kind of "Trail Ride" envisioned. It is usually just a very long old fashioned motocross. See my comment above.
Its all hype, Nicot is way ahead, they have a clutch and 4 speed on a 12kw bike.
Not enough battery capacity.

I would rather give up some power and run time if it was as light as a 125
