Thanks for posting a vid. with you using the 40C. You have a nice one there. Finishing up on my 1953 40C engine next couple weeks on mine, will start the drive unit and clutch packs after that. Will probably use your tool next summer for the tracks. Waiting for my Daughter to edit some vids for you tube.
This is a 23 HP model, 101 CU IN. 4" bore 4" stroke. I was the the start of construction equipment. The Model 40 never came from Deere with a blade in 1953 and was offered latter in 1954. Since I have it here I use it, but 40 HP would be better. You need a certain amount of HP to break the tension of the soil and like most things in life, more power is better. TonyK.
The wide pads were used in soft and marshy soil. This Crawler came out of the Holland Marsh just near Barrie Ontario Canada. When I told the John Deere dealer here about it and he asked how wide at the pads and I told him 14" he replied that machine came out of the Holland Marsh. So I don't think the 14" pads were all that common. TonyK.
Great machines. I have a '57 420c. Love those two cylinders!
Does it have a winch? GearOmatic?
@@edwardcarberry1095 no, i wish it did.
Thank you for the reply.
Ours did and it would be very interesting to find it /know about it after all these years.

So this is the 17 hp model? I think I'd need a 40 hp.

What a honey. I'm restoring a small dozer on my channel can't wait to clank around.
It sound like the engine is missing. two cylinders and a red paint job
What year is that?
It is a 1953 one of 2262 made. I have a total restoration video picture show of what it looked like and progress of restoration on this channel.
Beautiful machine

I thought they were wider than normal but edited that from my post . Thanks for the details.
The machine normally came with 12" pads, 14" were rare.

Cool old machine, but it is painfully slow.
Yes, very slow. But before 1953 your options were a horse. Thanks for the comments. TonyK.
