I have seen her in person many times. After the show, I walk up to her to talk to her. She never gives me the "Who are you to talk to me attitude?". She is as beautiful a person as she is a singer.
Just saw this legend in October, 2024 and she is STILL amazing! She’s a force of nature-and it’s a privilege to hear her. She’s almost 97, and she’s still phenomenal. Her voice is like velvet and her stage presence is just as sensational. One of a kind.
My God. I came here because of a car. In the summer of '69 my Aunt Nancy wanted a new car. She and my Uncle David started looking at the '69 Marquis Brougham. She was a DISD elementary school Iibrarian. I was 5 and she kept me during the day while my mother worked. I've never forgotten those exciting Lincoln Mercury commercials, especially for the Marquis, and that fantastic voice. Until now I never knew who the lady was. Aunt Nancy and Uncle David brought me along when they bought a loaded, Colonial White with Navy Blue vinyl top and Navy Blue interior, 69 Marquis Brougham from Eagle Lincoln Mercury in Dallas, TX. I loved cars and was so excited that day. During the whole process I kept humming and singing "Lincoln Mercury Leads The Way". They laughed and so did the salesman but it was so catchy and they we were actually buying a new luxurious Mercury. That tune crept in my head every time I rode in that car. All the buttons and switches for the seats, windows, locks, trunk, antenna. It even had an 8-Track and tilting Rim Blow steering wheel. Thank you so much for posting this. So many wonderful memories Ms. Maye's voice gave me.
Thank you!!! Please post as much of Maye as you can! She is a wonderful and super underrated performer that still sings amazingly to this day in her 90s!
She is her 90’s and is still fabulous. I went to a few of her shows at 54 Below in New York. She is the quintessential cabaret jazz vocalist. Her voice and interpretation of the lyrics are unique.
Complete medley and a great performance. The records are incomplete, but I was surprised to find only two appearances for Marilyn on TESS. The other one was in June 1969 when she sang "What's There to Sing About?" and "Misty." She was on Johnny Carson many times, but, unfortunately, most 60s Tonight shows do not exist.
Where can I find records of her Carson performances? I've been looking for information on the date of the I Will Surive performance that's up on RUclips. I wanted to include Marilyn in my 'most preserved voices' series but wasn't sure on some of the dates including that one.
@@KajiVocals The song "I Will Survive" is from 1978. Maye made one Carson appearance in 1979 on November 7. I am guessing that's the date. Search on "List of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson episodes 1979" to find guest lists, but they don't have the songs they performed.
@@electrolytics they taped over the earlier shows in those days. Marilyn bought back those that did still exist in later years. I think of 76 appearances, she has around 30 of them.
@@paradiddlemcflam7167 probably there with Marilyn as was the pianist. Buddy wasn’t a reader although he had a freakish ability to remember arrangements. This type of thing was common for an act to have their pianist and drummer. Like Sinatra with Buddy’s band at the Concert for the Americas. Irv Cottler and Franks’s pianist, trombone and lead trumpet augment Buddy’s band. BTW Buddy and Sol loved each other.
@@michaelberkowitz2541 Thanks for the info. Sol definitely sounds great. I am ashamed to say I have not heard of him before, or at least do not recall his name, and I am obsessed with the traditional jazz drummers from that time period. I was not alive to see any of these guys perform, so I suppose it is harder to know all of the great musicians. I was not sure if Buddy was employing a permanent substitute at that time like he did with Bellson, but it makes more sense that these were just the people who came with the singer's act. Anyway, thanks again!
Johnny Carson had her perform on his tonight show for years, her and Eydie Gorme brought the house down every time, oh yeah !!!!!
The greatest elderly lady singer of all time, you better believe it, God Bless Her 😊😊😊😊😊

In November 2023 she turned 95. She is still going strong, still singing, and still sounds great.
in April she turned 96
She still sings and sounds great today in her 90s. She has a real love for her music! 🌟

Marilyn Maye is simply amazing and underrated!! It’s absolutely mind blowing the fact that she is still performing now at 93!

Amazing voice
The definitive (non-theatre) performance of Cabaret for me. Sheer joie de vivre.
Great selection of songs, and she has a great voice, great presence, and her own style.

Love this performance! Marilyn Maye is astounding! This was a truly classic and classy performance.
Such a beautiful and clear voice ❤️🔥🥂✨
She's still going strong today!

What happened to the 60s Carson Shows?
@@electrolytics NBC got rid of them when Carson moved to Los Angeles. Save warehouse space!

If you have her other appearance, we fans would love it! 💖

@Norbert Gerard Thanks. I thought he was in Botswana...
Sol Gubin on drums.

That’s not Buddy Rich and noticed that they have him pretty much in the dark to try to disguise the fact.
Drummer may be Gordon "Specs" Powell-was CBS "house drummer" and played with the Ray Bloch, CBS Orchestra.
That is the late Mark Franklin on piano. He was M's MD for 20 years until his death.
Whoever it was he could read unlike Buddy.
