- Here's an installment of In the News with Christopher Glenn, dealing with the 7th G7 economic summit (a.k.a. the "Ottawa Summit") which was held on July 20th and 21st 1981, with footage from the event shown throughout. Includes:
"We Will Return After These Messages" bumper for Tarzan/Lone Ranger Adventure Hour featuring what looks like a purple dinosaur (stegosaurus?) (voiceover by Wally King)
In the News opening and preview about coming topic
General Foods sponsor bumper (voiceover by ??)
Commercial: Post Super Sugar Crisp cereal - "Monkey Mountain" (voice of Sugar Bear by Gerry Matthews)
An explanation of the word "summit," how it applies to political events, and a brief historical background of the G7 summit and previous such summits (going back to the first in 1975, then known as G6, presided over by French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing). Mr. Glenn goes into detail about this summit, held at the Château Montebello in Montebello, Quebec. The participants were U.S. President Ronald Reagan, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau (father of the current Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau), French President François Mitterand, German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, Italian Prime Minister Giovanni Spadolini, and Japanese Prime Minister Zenko Suzuki (it was the first time for Messrs. Reagan, Spadolini and Suzuki). As Mr. Glenn notes, such summits are as much a "get to know you" affair as they are about discussing the economic problems of the world and what to do about them.

About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

Oh the memories this brings.
the General Foods logo just gave me the tingles:)
To me, the General Foods logo didn't just give me the tingles; the General Electric logo gave me the Heebie-jeebies!!
Always good to see these.
It is always soothing hearing Christopher Glenn's voice.
Sugar Bear going Super Saiyan before Goku did.
"In The News " brought many memories back.
Sneaking in the news in between cartoons. Devious.
525Lines Pretty sneaky sis!
@@doctorx2105 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't remember if that was Battleship or Connect 4 commercial. Either way it's a riot!!!!

Fucked up my childhood 😂
Rest In Peace Christopher Glenn.
What a great Era that was when Saturday mornings meant something anybody agree
The In the News intro sounds like the Hall of Justice's computer.
Even as a girl, I wanted to sleep-in even more because of the hypnotic sound effects.
With CBS making a return to SatAM cartoons(thank MeTV for forcing CBS's hand), this fall, which will be a gradual process and will have an eventual domino effect with both ABC and NBC, CBS might revisit brining back In The News with various news personnel contributing select stories, each week. Stories, such as green energy, MLB's R.B.I. program, recreational activities in the summer months, Habitat for Humanity, etc.- stories that kids can relate to!!!
Colorized in the news i miss in the news i wish in 2024 had new version
And several years later:
REAGAN: The summit on ABC.
GORBACHEV: You'll love it.
Oooooh!
Christopher Glenn narrating here
Super bear probably woke something in me when I was a kid.
Oh Lord, I bet! I wonder if that's another early Furry recollection someone out there's going to have too?

My older brother was a big time Science Fiction fan, as well.
Great memories of eating Frosted Flakes while watching cartoons on Saturday mornings in the late 70's and early 80's. So very glad I grew up then as opposed to now...the world was just a bit more innocent then. Also, more child friendly...without the entire home and world revolving around children.

0:00-0:04 never seen that CBS Saturday Morning break bumper before! There are many from the 1980-81 season that are missing.
I'm sure there are plenty.
@@ChristopherSobieniak which ones?
@@JHollowayNetwork I don't know if this was the same season, but here's one.. ruclips.net/video/1Pgm8pLmgqc/видео.html
The sound effects of those "We'll Be Back After 'In The News' and These Messages" bumpers put me under a deep hypnotic spell!! 😵💫🥰😍😴
never see that coming
Love to see more Saturday Morning of this period!
Better yet...bring Saturday morning TV back to the children. Is there more to life than just news? No wonder TV is boring.
@@reneauvray3440 And this is where we are, children stuck with tablets/phones their parents shove at them so they'd never have to hear them complain about being bored after school.
DJ RICHARD BROWN'S AMERICAN TOP FOURTY WILL BE RIGHT BACK AFTER IN THE NEWS SPONSORED BY THE MANY FINE PRODUCTS OF GENERAL FOODS,THESE MESSAGES & STATION IDENTIFICATION!
Nice thumbnail used for this BTW!
Next another interesting story that's In the News narrated by Christopher Glenn sponsored by the many fine products of

The super sugar crisp commercials were getting ridiculous, back then!
But the sweet cereal tasted so good!
@@JennieBonbons You'll get no argument from me on that point!
The "In the News" segments would often be preceded by an animated bumper ("Next, another interesting story that's in the news" or "Now here's another interesting story that's In the News") from its programs (Tarzan/Lone Ranger, Bugs Bunny, Popeye, Fat Albert, Mighty Mouse & Heckle and Jekyll, the Drak Pack, Droopy from Tom & Jerry Comedy Show etc...), but they were phased out by 1981.
That was only for a couple of years. I never saw the Drak Pack do it.
Bugs bunny or popeye would announce another in the news
I didn't like super sugar bear!
Still they made him pretty MANLY looking here! That was an eye-opener.

It was a good time for that!
