    I actually appreciate when other cmdrs in the instance keep beams on after the shield goes down. It gives me a visual to keep me from straying into their firing solution.

      Same. I also find that it makes it much easier to keep track of the 'goid when it's lit up like a disco ball.

    Addendum Rule: Don't attempt to flee from a thargoid if you have hate and a heart is exerted. It's very difficult for anyone else to get a firing angle in this situation and it slows everything down. Just continue to orbit without firing until someone else takes aggro.

    Thanks for the guide, very useful for someone fresh to AX. Can comfortably solo Cyclops but it gets tricky against Hydras when there's 5+ CMDRs flying around. I accidentally rammed another CMDR who was orbiting and he turned around and finished me before I could dock aha. Guess I deserved that one.

    Are you certain about the claim of slfs causing lag or are you just assuming based on old knowledge? I've been in groups with friends on multiple occasions where we all used slfs and have never experienced "unbearable lag", or any change in lag at all for that matter. I'm aware that there used to be a game breaking bug with the netcode involving slfs and if that's what you're referring to then it appears to me to have been resolved in a recent patch.

    • @Astyrrean
      @Astyrrean  Год назад +3

      Any patch notes or similar with regards to the resolution aspect? It used to be so bad that it was even considered akin to an exploit in the PvP community. I haven’t personally tested it in the last few months … will look into this.

    • @Chimerathon
      @Chimerathon Год назад +3

      Sorry, I wouldn't know which patch fixed it, if any. I started playing this game about 3 months ago, so I've not followed patch notes before the most recent two. I also don't know what that bug looked like as to my knowledge I've never experienced it; if it was obvious like it sounds then I feel like it would have stood out to me in the many hours I've spent in a party with people using slfs. No harm in warning people against it anyways I suppose, as you've said, slfs aren't super helpful in ax combat.

  • @TheTaz232

    I disagree with the beams not being used after shield goes down, attacking with all gauss cannons cooks you really fast and I prefer to save sinks when it's absolutely nessasary for it.

    • @Astyrrean
      @Astyrrean  Год назад +1

      Using beams together with gauss only cooks you faster, as they compete with gauss for distro energy and the heat generation of weapons is proportional to how empty the distro is.

    • @TheTaz232
      @TheTaz232 Год назад +3

      @Astyrrean I mean, you're right, but I'm not rapid firing either, beams are usually only used when I'm in orbit or my capacitors are nearly full. My cool down periods are more often than not without beams.
      I'm just speaking on if I HAD to cool off in that moment I'd rather the beams over sinks.

    I'm still very much a noob, so the only one I wasn't clear on was what resetting the swarm meant/how to do it. This helps clear that up. I'm almost exclusively fighting around planetary CZs anyway, but good to know for future reference.

    rule 9 should be shards also, imo shards also panic goids

    • @Astyrrean
      @Astyrrean  3 месяца назад +1

      They can, yes. But, at least, shards more reliably gib them, and shards don’t leave behind a huge cloud that makes heart sniping all but impractical.

  • @Kissamiess
    @Kissamiess Год назад +1

    Heh, I use plasma chargers all the time, but I am aware of the visibility problem. If I see someone else going after the heart, I don't shoot, and if the other people have shown themselves competent, I only exert and then back off. Of course this often makes the interceptor go after me, but I've had some good results with the tactic of making it turn towards everyone while chasing me. I also go for the gib occasionally, but I think I've gotten pretty decent at figuring out when it's actually going to work. That swarm stuff is good. I've got to convince my wingmates to do some spaceborne CZs to practice.

    • @tomasbancak8752
      @tomasbancak8752 5 месяцев назад

      Are you using modified plasma chargers? How they perform? Are they worth it?

    • @Kissamiess
      @Kissamiess 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@tomasbancak8752 Yes, I still think they are the best AX weapon. They one shot scouts if you have 2 mediums and 1 small or better. They are absolutely best at exerting, They *can* hit hearts, but it's more challenging than other weapons. One thing you got to note, though, that their effective range is just 1000m, so you must be able to zip in and out of the range. Edit: I forgot to add that they are the most ammo effective too. Doesn't matter as much when fighting near stations, but really nice thing in space AXCZ.

  • @Seekay_

    • @Astyrrean
      @Astyrrean  Год назад +3

      Especially common with CMDRs who have 4 plasma chargers and are trying to snipe hearts - thing is, they often aren’t even trying to gib it … they are just shooting at hearts, missing, and instead doing enough hull damage to trigger a panic shield. Hence my personal recommendation regarding plasma chargers.

    • @djwave28
      @djwave28 Год назад +1

      @@Astyrrean I do think it is part of the game and having commanders at all levels. You can't blame a commander for trying and doing their best in this war. You are basically saying that they need to get out of your way.
      We all want to become better pilots, so helping each other is the only way.
      The fdev gave us tools and that is what we are stuck with.

    • @Astyrrean
      @Astyrrean  Год назад +3

      Pretty sure that’s not what I said nor implied. What I did say is that plasma chargers are extremely difficult to use properly and make everyone else’s experience miserable when used improperly (which is extremely common.) As a consequence, I recommended against their use. Bring shards, gauss, MCs, whatever you fancy, with any level of experience. Just not chargers please.

    As a VR player I find it difficult to type messages but I've never found good instructions for voice comms in game. I default to voice comms provided by the game but some commanders use discord instead, overlaying the game voice channel. How do you find this out? which channel people are using in a particular CZ.How do you integrate discord comms with game comms?

    • @Astyrrean
      @Astyrrean  Год назад +1

      For AX in general, some of the largest voice-groups are in the AXI discord. AXI discord voice channels work simply based on "voice activation" so they are very VR friendly.

    • @martinmoss317
      @martinmoss317 Год назад +1

      @@Astyrrean So you have to run discord concurrently with ED. Any settings to prioritize discord comms over ED comms?

      @@martinmoss317 Just disable ED Voice comms; Almost nobody uses ED's built-in capability. Discord runs fine in the background and with Discord's overlay it'll show who is in the voice channel and highlight who is talking (and unlike ED's, it is not limited to a 4-person wing)
