sometimes people didn't remove it on purpose. To retain the shape of the squid while grilling it... I think that's what people believe. My squid never shrunken or become out of shape when I grill it without the cartilage

A squid or octopus is said to have one bone only.
usually those sambals are used as dipping sauce for the herbs/fishes/chickens/beefs/prawns/squids..we don't really eat them directly because of the strong taste haha

When you are eating heavy meal or nasi campur, it goes really well with tea o ice..tea ice only good with light meal such as fried rice, mee, ect because the drink contains milk.

I live in Langkawi, I know this place, right in the middle of Kuah town. We just simply call this Kedai Hijau or Green Shop. Open in the morning and barbecue stuff begins during noon. Price is reasonable, plenty of food variety. Just don't like the table and chairs arrangement because people always squeezing in behind you to get further inside. I probably go tomorrow for the squid.

The red sotong was sambal sotong. The herbs, cumber, raw vegetables you eat, in Malaysia we call Ulam. Usually ulam we eat with white rice & sambal belacan.

Hi Adam, the chilly mixture in the small saucer is called "sambal belacan". I suggest you to ask the stall operators if you are not familiar to the dishes. They will tell you even the ingredients used.
Usually it is used as a sauce to dip the fried fish, salad etc. It is too salty and spicy to eat just like that. I am surprised you could do that. Thank you for bringing us around touring too. I am Malaysian and it is a shame I have not been to all the places you visited.

You have found heaven in Nasi Campur BBQ. For me it is the best Nasi Campur in Langkawi Island. They have some rarest dishes like many type or kerabus and best of all the rare nyonya dish steamed otak otak(if you are lucky).
There are no wrong way to eat Malay Nasi Campur. By hand or fork and spoon. Which ever style you feel comfortable just do it. I am glad you found BBQ Restaurant.
