    I’m just making this observation as a gay man, so maybe I’m biased or hyper aware, I dunno… but it seems like just being gay is almost not even considered anymore when it comes to anything that has to do with someone who might be slightly outside the norm for heterosexuality. When I see anything LGBT there always seems to be an emphasis on the T, if not just a complete focus.
    Even when I see gay men being portrayed in entertainment it’s people that look RuPaul or Billy Porter, people who are androgynous at best, or they’re super fey or even wearing makeup. I almost never see just a gay man like me… a regular man, who looks like man, acts like a man, sounds like a man, dresses like a man, who just happens to also like men. That describes the vast majority of gay men I know and I’m one of them (describes my husband too). I’ve never even met or seen someone like Billy Porter.
    I feel like “it’s ok to be gay” needs to be revised to “it’s ok to just be gay.”

      Their arguments are entirely dependent on control of the language, it couldn't be more Orwellian. For instance, they changed the definition of the word gender in laymen usage (synonym for sex, according to any old paperback thesaurus) to mean the academic definition (feelings). Which is perfectly fine, the more granular the language the better IMO. But then they proceeded to apply the new 'gender' to all the scenarios that were previously a function of sex (e.g. women's sports).

      @ahmarcamacho8404 3 года назад +13

      @@toobnoobify They also use the words "transfemale" and "transwoman" interchangeably. At one point the ideology even acknowledged the existence of sex and how it isn't important in deciding your gender. While we have people take exogenous hormones and surgeries to change their sexual characteristic. In addition to fighting for puberty blockers and surgeries for their kids, you would think they would not go down that route based on their own logic. Cognitive dissonance. Even the language has evolved to people announcing things like "I'm a male to female transgender" which is impossible, their initial logic kept these things separate, not anymore i guess.

    • @jayjee735
      @jayjee735 3 года назад +11

      They need to promote medical interventions in young people to justify the 'born in the wrong body' narrative. If younger people are claiming a trans identity then it means the middle aged men with AGP are not fetishists after all, their "gender identity is just like sexual orientation". Commitment to social 'transition' is a fast track to medical intervention and a point of no return, so the ideology becomes self perpetuating.
      However in order to have arousal middle aged men with AGP need their testes and penis, so simultaneously you hear the promotion of the ideas that "transgender people don't need surgeries", or "a penis is a female organ if on a transwoman" notice there are no middle aged women claiming a trans identity in the same proportions as middle aged males.

Took me out for a good three weeks at age 27, couldn't walk, couldn't function, took out my career projectory. Its genetic, super common in my family. The doctors told me there's no cure and it's a chronic condition, and my only long term solution is a surgery that would eliminate all ease of motion in my neck and shoulders.
      It's gotten waaay worse the last three years but I've learned to deal with chronic pain 24/7. Recently had my insurance drop all treatments because I was going to the ER once a month to get a short term tordol (high powered ibuprofen) shot, and they said it was "abusing" the system. All this and they have refused to give me painkillers, ever. It has never even come up even though everyone else in my family with the condition has their own script of painkillers and they can manage their own pain. None of them are addicts, though I'm sure they're technically "dependent".
      So I can no longer get tordol shots, can't get a script of even the least potent painkillers, all due to my state-mandated insurance. Here's the kicker:
      Right now my insurance would cover a FULL SEX CHANGE AND TRANSITION, covered 100 percent.

And manhood! Also the role of internalized shame and external/internalized homophobia, if any. Your questions were good, but I would also like to hear these young gay men's take on what exactly motivates a gay man who presumably loves men and maleness to present as a woman? Lots of questions! A lot to unpack here.

    Gender is a prison -- if your personality doesn't fit the prevailing destructive stereotypes associated with your body, then chop your body up until it does. And now this gutsy, thoughtful kid has lost something precious to him. He has an amazing, brave life ahead of him, though.
    I always say that when I was little, I was told I couldn't be so good at math because I was a girl. Nowdays, I'd have been told that I couldn't be a girl if I was so good at math. I feel like a lot of gender confusion comes front not accepting oneself as flawed people. Why am I flawed? Why can’t I accept myself like others do? Why can’t I love myself? And today’s culture pushes us to believe that gender is the problem.
    No, it is not easy to accept one self and to love one self, but I wish more people can stop that impulsive urge for irreparable decisions. Some of us choose to try suicide while others mutilate ourselves, when we all just want to learn how to love ourselves, how to not care anymore about what other things, when we just want to be loved by who we are.

    • @lins_z2
      @lins_z2 3 года назад

      @Max Mac Lochlyn in think that’s beyond the point of my comment. I’m talking about the people that think transitioning is the solution and end up regretting it. I’m not negating that there are people who suffer dysphoria out there and would benefit from transitioning. I’m referring to those who are going through hard times, have a hard time accepting who they are or explaining why they can’t love themselves and end up taking decisions that will affect their lives permanently.
      Specially for the youth who is impulsive and easily influenced, who are ignorant of the long term effects that this kind of procedures have. And I’m speaking from the perspective of someone who also was highly impulsive and didn’t measure the long term consequences of my actions, although I thought I did. That is someone that every young person will go through in a way or another; and just because one wants to call for caution, doesn’t turn someone into a transphobic person. Also, why it is so important to accept oneself and love oneself first, as a person, as the one who’s inside, first? Because no external change will help you live with yourself and be able to tolerate your own thoughts in a moment of solitude. And that goes beyond gender, beyond the trans conversation. That’s why a lot of trans people end up committing suicide, regardless if they regret or not their transition, and that’s just absolutely heart breaking. So instead of going out there shutting down conversation and calling other people names, focus on bringing awareness and real conversations.

    • @lins_z2
      @lins_z2 3 года назад

      @Max Mac Lochlyn didn’t you just say it yourself? YOU. That’s the answer you came up for yourself. It might not be the case for someone else, don’t you think? And you can also be trans and accept yourself, accept your inner child, the other side of you that you reject, because that person doesn’t deserve to be rejected. You can love that part of yourself while still being trans. What is the point of putting up war with your own self? That you accept yourself doesn’t mean it negates your own identity and existence. Is recognizing that we are all born with things that we didn’t choose, for some is parents we didn’t choose, for others, circumstances they didn’t choose and for others it is a body they didn’t choose. We are not born perfect and we will never be, we are all flawed, but to grow we have to accept our flawed selves instead of rejecting it. Again, it doesn’t mean you have to stop being trans. Does the person you once were deserve to be rejected because of who they were? Did they do anything wrong? If the answer is no, then why do you do that towards that person?
      It is something that I believe everyone should learn to process, regardless of gender or age. To stop loathing that child inside of us, to accept them, to forgive them, to give them love.
      And as you can see, this doesn’t change either you’re trans or not. But maybe a lot of people, if they could learn how to do this when they were in despair, they would have not chosen to transition, such is the case with Garret, that accepted he could be gay and like feminine stuff and that’s okay, even if there’s people out there that will still rejected. But he’s in the end, in peace with himself now. We must stop putting a war against ourselves, against our inner self, our shadow, our anima, integrate those aspects of ourselves to be able to find peace within. That’s where I was going with my comment. Of course, in the end, if the person is in peace with oneself and still have dysphoria, they’re free to pursue the life that they want in the gender that they want. Life is a lot more than our gender and our conscience will kick our asses for a lot of things other than gender :’)
      Also, to accept oneself doesn’t mean that it’s not okay to change. To accept that we are flawed, doesn’t mean we can’t try and become better. In the contrary, because we accept our flawed selves and our potential for evil, as all humans, then we take the conscientious decision to be better, to do better, to become better. And that can take a lot of shapes and forms.

    To Garrett: I, and so many others, truly appreciate your courage in telling your story with such candor. It is very important to the public discourse about transitioning, and I believe it will help in the sociological efforts to understand how to better serve those who experience confusion or ambiguity about their gender identity. It is a highly complex issue, with many layers, and should not be 'messed with' without careful, gradual considerations. Your case highlights these problem areas perfectly. We are all wishing you the best as you navigate the de-transitioning process, and reclaim your life in a way that feels authentic and comfortable for you. It is wonderful to hear that your parents love and support you to the best of their ability.
