Ive been picking for a while. But this man is thee best picker I've ever seen. I can personally pick standard, waffers and somw dimple locks but this guy has an amazing amount of skill.

Also, the video shown here is not the first attempt at picking the locks, rather he already picked them at least once without the camera time. So it looks it's done with much ease, which wouldn't be the case if we see the first tries. Nonetheless, LPL probably is one of the finenst, if not the finenst, lock picker of the moden era.
With such freaking many pins this would probably be a HUUUGE mess lol. And i guess its just like a normal pin lock just with MOOAAR pins from more directions
So many pins in so many directions... this would be an absolute nightmare to pull apart and try to put back together. I don't blame him for not doing it. I don't find the slight variance on the pin shapes to be THAT interesting.

Still; that was less than five minutes! He gave us an introduction first, so the whole time on the lock was about three minutes. When you see him open 7 locks in less than 30 seconds, three minutes was a long time!

Someone sufficiently prepared for destructive entry will ALWAYS be able to get your shit. If nothing else, they'll bring detcord and breach the goddamn wall.
Well, being honest, the length has to be separated in: explanation of the lock, and then picking of the 18 pins. That's, let's say, 180 seconds for pin (being generous today). That comes to 10s per pin. So, if this were a normal lock, the video would be 2 minutes shorter.
I'd just like to say I have no interest in lock picking or even learning how for that matter yet I'm still binge watching your videos It's a real special talent to keep someone interested in something they have no interest in so awesome job and good luck on your RUclips career.
Lpl is without a doubt the best I've seen and his humble attitude is one of the best I've seen . I personally only watch three lpl , bosnianbill and lock noob . There is one more I do watch for laughs The third generation lock picker as he loves to call himself . But if we ever have a vote there the top three in my opinion

As a total novice still needs to learn terms and someone just to let you know how much of a novice. Things like him this one that I would have liked to have known is how many pins was that are actually in there. Were you correct in what you had seen what was picked. I would presume so other wise you would have commented about it as you proceeded to pick the lock. I will presume that your mind is so organized you can easily keep track of where you are inside the lock in all six areas which may be where others fall short picking more complicated locks. This is where I think I'm going to enjoy this Hobby because I Envision things in my mind even if I've never seen them before. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your talent. Picking time, 1:30 - 3:53 = 2 minutes, 23 seconds = "... that took a fair amount of time ..." I've fumbled getting the right key in the keyway longer than it takes for LPL to open an impossible lock
After seeing this video I’m thinking if it takes LPL this long to pick it must be a reasonably good lock. Your average criminal isn’t going to waste time picking it. They are going straight for a destructive attack.
LPL, I'd like to see you and Bill pick euro cylinders in their proper position - upside down. Every single time either of you 2 get one of those, you clamp it up as an American picker... Granted this is America - and you can do what you want, but like you just said, you train yourself to pick in 1 direction. Now, I would agree that it's a pain in the butt. Such as, if you overset a pin in the conventional manner - pins facing down, sometimes you can ease up on tension and take the pins and free it up. It's more difficult to do so with the pins facing up. Were fortunate enough not to have a lot of euro locks in this country - thank god, I hate the ones that I encounter in the field - i'm not proficient in upside down picking.
I've worked it both ways, too. I'm seriously slow and clumsy by comparison to any of the YT pundits, yet while i find the shift difficult it is not a real barrier to results. Helps if you twist your brain around. ;-) But seriously, for me it's a sort of mental spatial rearrangement. Once I'm re-oriented, it works okay. I suppose it will get easier.
LPL, I'm addicted to your channel. The shackle on this lock looks rather thin. Non-destructive picking is an art that I appreciate, but what about actual security? Is this lock over-balanced with a difficult to-pick core yet an easy to cut shackle? If so, what are your thoughts on this?
No shackle can withstand an Angle Grinder attack! It's just that some shackles (thicker 1/2") take a few seconds longer to cut than others (thinner shackles). But in the end, they all get cut into two pieces rather quickly!
Bolt cutters will work better. Also I bet you can snap it with a large enough lever. Also brass bodies are a joke by default. No one is going to bother picking this.
it seems like practically every lock with high pin counts is pulling some sort of deception with making some pins non-functional or non-existant. also, did you try raking this one? those high pin count locks usually get raked quickly
I have an idea - all the picking is based on applying pressure to the core and then setting pins one after another. What if a lock worked on principle of split key - the first part you insert to the keyhole, then you have to close the access by a sliding mechanism and the turning of the core is done by a separate mechanism operated by the second part of the key... Wouldn't this kind of lock been inherently unpickable? Without destruction of any of its parts?
This video teaches me that locks that look tough can be marshmallows as Bill puts it. This is one of those locks I thought "wow! that looks effectively unpickable!" *gets picked in
Worth considering: 1) At the very least, that's 4 minutes the thief is slowed down. That's worth a lot, each minute makes it more likely they get caught or give up and find an easier lock 2) LPL puts hundreds of hours into picking. His practice sessions involve setting up a LINE of locks to go through. He is a master lockpicker, and I don't consider that exaggeration. He's put in the work. So just because he can do it doesn't mean that your standard issue burgler can.
Re: picking from different directions, that's also why I always wince when a picker picks an euro cylinder the wrong way around. Sure you can pick it when it's upside down, but would you pick it as easily when it's actually in a door the right way up? (Not that I ever understood why the euro cylinder has the pins on the bottom, if a spring breaks it basically fails closed, whereas if the pins are on top the lock should still function without any springs.)
+RealUnimportant this is not a matter of failing open vs failing closed, but a matter of failing closed vs failing functional. With the pins on top, gravity will pull the pins down, so a broken spring means a key can still push them up to the sheerline and the lock would still work as normal. With the pins on the bottom, a broken spring means the pins will be pulled down by gravity, are no longer pushed up against the key and thus permanently block the sheerline. The lock would be permanently non-functional (for either the real key or a lock pick). I know what failure mode I'd prefer :)

That seems like a lock worth buying giving LPL normally smokes things out in 2-20 seconds.
Core seems good, but that housing seems like its way too easy to break. So a hard lock to pick, but easy to just destroy.
It's such a cool skill. Seeing how much effort and time it takes you is a real endorsement that this is a great lock.

When I first started picking I picked pins down. It was a difficult transition to pick pins up. (From U.S.)

The Castle shackle looks like something I can cut with a pocket bolt cutter.

2) LPL puts hundreds of hours into picking. His practice sessions involve setting up a LINE of locks to go through. He is a master lockpicker, and I don't consider that exaggeration. He's put in the work. So just because he can do it doesn't mean that your standard issue burgler can.
I think they had that shape to make sure the key is reversible, so its 13 pins but look like there is more.
Re: picking from different directions, that's also why I always wince when a picker picks an euro cylinder the wrong way around. Sure you can pick it when it's upside down, but would you pick it as easily when it's actually in a door the right way up?
(Not that I ever understood why the euro cylinder has the pins on the bottom, if a spring breaks it basically fails closed, whereas if the pins are on top the lock should still function without any springs.)
When it comes to keeping something you care about secure, would you rather something fails open or closed?
+RealUnimportant this is not a matter of failing open vs failing closed, but a matter of failing closed vs failing functional.
With the pins on top, gravity will pull the pins down, so a broken spring means a key can still push them up to the sheerline and the lock would still work as normal. With the pins on the bottom, a broken spring means the pins will be pulled down by gravity, are no longer pushed up against the key and thus permanently block the sheerline. The lock would be permanently non-functional (for either the real key or a lock pick).
I know what failure mode I'd prefer :)
