That's the problem. Army troops want it, but Air Force doesn't want to keep it they're trying to retire it but they've been unable to (at least fully) bcoz Congress intervened. The Air Force doesn't even have a plan to replace the A-10 in the CAS role, clearly showing they don't really care about supporting Army grunts. And this is exactly why the Army should be allowed its own fleet of fixed wing air force, such as having the A-10, AC-130, C-130, F-16, CV-22, just as how the Navy and Marine Corps can and do have their own air force to support their own missions. I was a crew chief from 2008-2014 mainly working in the A/R shop. It’s a great plane and was fairly simple to maintain. Our fleet mostly consisted of 1977-1978 models with a couple of 1980 models as the newest we had. We would sometimes have difficulty removing the rudder carriage pedals, having the throttle quadrant rigged just right, and locating parts sometimes. After they added air vents near the pilots knees, we really hated rudder pedal carriages. We enjoyed the 1980 models the best as they had a few extra access panels making maintenance easier on certain task. Our planes would sometimes get shot up in Afghanistan, but always came back. No. You end up with a new series of drones for Close Air Support for the future. The problem is that the A-10 is extremely susceptible to shoulder launched anti-aircraft missiles. The US did not face those in Iraq or Afghanistan. If they did there would not be a single A-10 left. I saw an analysis of using A-10's in Ukraine where he Russian Troops have shoulder launched anti-aircraft missiles and that analysis projected a maximum life of an A-10 at 4-5 days of use, with 50% shot down in the 1st 2 days. Bringing last war's tools to a more modern battlefield does not work... Many many examples of that in the history of warfare.

The A10 : the infantryman's guardian angel. Fantastic piece of engineering. It's needed. It can take off from dirt roads , using dirty fuel, give hell and take heavy punishment and return to base with one wing or engine. Can manuevre at low altitudes and slow speeds.
The A-10 is the most awesome plane that we have they can do everything, protect the pilots protect the ground troops deliver a lot of ammunition to its target survivability is a plus and the ground troops love it. There is nothing better than the A-10.

I believe that that A-10 useful life is limited. The Ukraine war has shown us that everyone in the future will have shoulder launched missiles, mobile artillery that can shoot and scoot in a few minutes, and drones... lots of drones. I believe that drones will take over most of the close air support mission

His Reserve Unit 917th was PULLED to Arizona when NO NAME MCSTAIN ran the SENATE ARMED FORCES COMMITTEE and tried to retire the A-10. I was at Lake Bisteneau, S.E. of Barksdale AFB, when 2 A-10's flew in between the Cypress Tree Tops along the ski channel that waa about two skiboats width to pass safely. Those A-10's came back with cypress tree tops stuck in the leading edge of wings and engine collins. Truly TOUGH BIRDS! The cracks in the WINGS were from pilots yanking G'S that I wouldnt want to try to take. That's why TWIN TAIL VERTICAL STABILIZERS were placed on the A-10, to push the nose hard when banking out of the attack run, placing that TITANIUM BELLY against any possible enemy return fire.

Glad to see the A-10 live another decade of really USA MILITARY POWER. God definitely has Bless America. Off We Go into the Wild Blue Yonder! Aim High Air Force!😊
The A-10 is the CAS version of the B-52 bomber. Except that the A-10 is much more difficult to shoot down. And is far more precise in its targeting capabilities. And until another aircraft is built with all of the A-10’s capabilities, it’s not replaceable. And cannot be retired.
Russia has SAMs that are the size of pickup trucks that can travel Mach 3. Those missiles carry so much explosives that the Russians have used them as surface to surface missiles.
I remember seeing a video when I was in the military during Desert Storm where a A-10 had a hole big enough to stand in on a wing. Pilot said a missile went through it. There were reports of A-10 so damaged that they pushed them off the runway because they were unrepairable. Talk about a tough jet
In Vietnam, we loved hearing the Hueys and Cobras come in to save our asses. I know todays soldiers must have the same feelings about the A-10. Keep it alive so it can keep our soldiers alive.
The A-10 is perhaps the greatest close air support airframe ever made. Friendly ground combatants liked to know they had an aircraft like the A-10 minutes away to clearly turn a bad situation around.
Sorry for this last comment but an A-20 advanced A-10 should be purchased with at least 3 different weapons packages as part of the procurement contract, the military industrial complex should stop nickel and dimming the tax payers to bankruptcy, give the American public a break. The A-20 could be setup as an anti- ship weapons platform that could serve aboard aircraft carriers able to carry medium range anti-ship cruiser missiles!
This airframe has saved more lives than any other in the world over the last 5 decades! The survivability is off the chart and the cost effectiveness is truly impressive for American taxpayer. No wonder the lapdogs in Congress controlled by lobbyists hate the Hog! Had friends and lots of brothers and sisters alive today because of her!! I only wish the Air Force generals would have to be on the ground one time and have their lives depend on the insane performance of the A-10. Might actually change their minds for an hour...
I agree fully! I would add that the Chair force should either be pulled back under the Army or split into two forces. One Army and one for the Air. Army gets the machines it needs this way! I personally think the A10 should live on, as long as there are tanks on the ground. Even better if it's an Army aircraft and continually modernized and rebuilt as needed.
The A10 is a sweet looking machine . When the troops see it coming they know they are safe. The A10 should live for ever it dose the job of fighter jets up close.
@@nadjasunflower1387 Air Force was born from the Army but ever since then it is an independent service branch completely separate from the Army. And ever since then it has been taking or trying to take away Army's fixed wing toys and even got the Army to agree on weight limit of helicopters etc. The problem is that the Air Force isn't interested in supporting Army ground operations (at least that's what the big bosses think). Air Force leaders have been trying to retire this plane for a long time now without even coming up with a replacement plane to fulfil the CAS role, but Congress has been stopping them from doing so. When the Air Force took the Army's aviation assets away in the late 40s, they promised they're gonna provide CAS and whatever support needed. But they didn't even build a dedicated CAS plane until several years into Vietnam, and until the Army developed its own attack helo (AH-1 Cobra) which the Air Force sort of saw it as Army overstepping into Air Force's territory. The Army should have its own fleet of air force, flying aircraft such as A-10, AC-130, C-130, F-16, CV-22, to support its own operations. If the Navy and Marine Corps can have their own air force to support their own missions, then so should the Army.
Thank the man upstairs this amazing aircraft hasn't been wayside. The A-10 truly is like no other, we should never let it go. Glad the Airforce didn't scrap them & gave them some sweet high tech upgrades. The ground troops truly need these too. Thanks for the video 😊
The A-10 is the only ground attack aircraft that can use so many different weapons to do what it does best, and that is to save Ground Pounders that are under attack by enemy forces. The sound of that gun also brings great hope to those same troops that know they may ultimately make it home. An added plus is that the pilots know the aircraft will protect them and bring them home when so many other aircraft can't say the same. This allows them to press the attack and do major damage to the enemy. I'm an Army vet, and I love studying this aircraft. It was great when they were stationed in Battle Creek, MI, 25 miles from my home.
Different missions but if they use them defensively and put several sidewinders on then they could knock cruise missiles and drones out of the sky , in the same way F16s are doing it now. Or they could use them sparingly on the front lines then retreat. And have some type of anti air defense system in place when warthogs are returning and missiles were fired at them from further out , the AA defense could knock those missiles off the warthogs' back. The front lines, in some cases, have enemy troops only 200-300 meters away, so doing a quick bombing run on a trench and quickly returning is feasible, I believe.
One of the main reasons that the A-10 is not being sent to Ukraine is that it is very vulnerable to hand held SAM systems and is also too slow to escape modern fighters. The reason that the A-10 is such an effective ground attack aircraft is that it has a top speed of just over 420 miles per hour. While it is a very effective aircraft for what it is designed to do a World War 2 P-51 Mustang is fast enough to catch it and shoot it down. The main reason it was so effective in Iraq and Afghanistan is that the Air Force had complete air superiority and there were no enemy aircraft left to shoot it down.
@@jaycooper2812 Also the exact reason why it's so important in the conflicts we have. It's a specialty aircraft, that is affordable to operate and maintain, and incredibly effective at the CAS role. I think the bigger reason why it's not being used in the current conflict has more to do with us not wanting the technology falling into enemy hands.
Answer. The A-10 needs to be able to operate in a battle space where you have already achieved total air supremacy and where you have already destroyed all of your opponent's ground to air defences. Plus, drones are now quickly replacing ground attack aircraft.
I fought in the Rhodesian COIN Bush war. The A10 is the perfect coin AIRCRAFT because it does NOT fly too fast but can take it's time aim...ready... FIRE
If encountering a dinosoar, it is advised to treat it with respect. A10 is a dinosoar which should not be messed with. Good to see sone new life breathed into them. Much respect from aus.
IMHO, they should change the 7 barrel for a 3 barrel, to load more ammo, and make it more explosive and incendiary, simply the feeding mechanism to make it lighter, and maybe sacrifice RPM for more ammo weight, so longer support to ground troops. I guess its small size make it hard to take down, and can't be made a bit larger to carry more bombs/missiles and ammo
Keeping info on the latest one a secret, but I'm very impressed by this tank killer, it's certainly unique, while cycling through Scotland one flew right over me at 50 feet, wow 👌 pilot must have been laughing 😃 used to guard atomic sub bases 😊cheers 🍻 from Australia ❤ 😊
I would only replace the A-10 with an A-20 Razorback built upon an A-10 chassis, with the following improvements 1. Sweep back wings and tail for supersonic flight speed 2. Upgraded engines for more thus 5000 to 8000 lbs more 3. Longer wings to increase payload 4. Most versions should have two pilots a weapons specialist to take the load off the lead pilot 5. Two of those Avenger Gatling guns with reduced rate of fire to enable the aircraft to do more damage to targets and stay on station longer 6. The larger A-20 should be built around the 2 Gatling guns, with a wider fuselage to carry more fuel 7. Finally the A-20 should carry 8 air to air missiles instead of 4. 😮
The A-10 Warthog has always been my favorite military aircraft, even from my childhood days. I love watching any videos of this absolute beast! While I love all of our amazing weapons, and even some of those from other countries, This one will always hold the top spot in my heart!!
What I still fail to understand is why this plane was given to the Air Force instead of the Marines? Even now it should be handed over to the Marines for the 20years remaining in its service. A wonderful ground attack platform! Note, that gun uses standard shells in peace, in wartime there is a more powerful shell that is used to punch through newer Tank armor, don't be fooled with the claim the gun is useless, that's what they want you to think!
Yep, the Warthog should be updated. I was Infantry back in the late 70’s. Watched it through my retirement in 2006. Gaaa, what a help. Always happy for its help, when it could come.
Ten years ago I was able to watch a live fire training and the sound from the guns on a video doesn’t even come close to hearing it a half mile away, it will scare the living crap out of you. The A-10 is a beast and if you ask any pilot who flew it they’ll tell you “Plane is a beast” them and the troops on the ground are the ones that kept this plane in service.
I built this model when I was young. LOVED IT , my favorite build came out spot on. Before I realized what kind of the model I was making also the Wild Weasel. And the USS Missouri. I just like the way they look.. after I grew up. I learned the true significance that they played.
Air Force says their spreadsheets say the A10 didn't live up to its king tank killer status. With the A-111 taking that trophy followed by the F15E. If my memory serves correctly most A10 tank kills were NOT gun kills. The only thing the A10 excelled at was presence/loiter time and suppression. It's true that there is likely nothing better at loitering and suppression in counter insurgency missions. But the A10 isn't going to survive the front lines if it's pitted against a near pier. They'll be shot out of the sky quicker than the Migs in Ukraine. They are likely the easiest to hit attack plane when it comes to anti-air. As for attacking tanks. It would make NO sense to send one of these after a tank. Right now we are working on long distance fiber optic connections to connect FPV drone to the larger surveillance drones. That way the surveillance drone is far enough away from the tank that jammers don't impact it and the attack drone will get it's signal from fiber optic and therefore can't be jammed. Kind of like a tow missile but instead of 2 wires that can short out if they touch water the fiber cable doesn't have that issue. The air force knew the A10 was just going to cost them money. Again just think about it. There were less than 70 A-111 Advarks used in desert storm. Around 150 A-10s. Also about 50 F-15E. So you got this big ass flying cannon and it's probably just going to use guided bombs anyways.

Until its shot down with shoulder launched missiles because the A-10 is extremely susceptible to shoulder launched anti-aircraft missiles. The US did not fact those in Iraq or Afghanistan. If they did there would not be a single A-10 left.

I believe that that A-10 useful life is limited. The Ukraine war has shown us that everyone in the future will have shoulder launched missiles, mobile artillery that can shoot and scoot in a few minutes, and drones... lots of drones. I believe that drones will take over most of the close air support mission
A-10 is a masterpiece of avionics !
Absolutely the A-10 should stick around for many more years.
Uh huh - complete BS re: “new” A-10….
The Military should never retire the SUPER WART HOG -- it is too awesome
Anytime you hear of a "new" existing aircraft, just put in "upgraded avionics package" and save 10 minutes of your time.
Scrub through to 9:15 to hear about the upgrades.
They need to keep it in service because of its durability love to see it keep serving just like the b-52 and the strike eagle
Love that platform because when ground troops are in a pickle, the A10 does the rescue very nicely!
This isn't new. It's just an A-10 with slight modern upgrades.
The Thud and Grandpa Buff are FOREVER! Ask any grunt who's had their backside save by a Hog if it should be retired. If the Buff can can last to the ripe age of 70+, why can the Thud?! I approve my tax dollars being spent on 4 aircraft... the B52, F15, F/A18 an the A10.
the thud ..one of my favorite combat jets...i dont think many jets today can keep up with chief on the deck epically with full combat load
My Dad Crewchiefed/worked on the A-10 at Barksdale AFB when I was 20 something,,,, now I'm 63 y/o!
Thank you for adding..all now makes sense..
NO NAME MCSTAIN. I liked that. He was truly inept.

The A10 will be a bada$$ plane for another decade minimum .
A-10 is the baby to the Mother that I worked on during my Vietnam Tour of Duty, the AC-130 Spectre Gunship 😮😅😊😂❤❤. All the flying power that you will need & all the Firing power to support all of our ground pounding troops in boots. They call, Air Force Haul ass to Whoop Ass of the enemy! Glad to see the A-10 live another decade of really USA MILITARY POWER. God definitely has Bless America. Off We Go into the Wild Blue Yonder! Aim High Air Force!😊
The Warthog will always be relevant!
Hell yes , this baby can go anywhere :)
They are like the BUFFs. Until a technology is developed to defeat them, you cannot upgrade perfection.
Just like the F15……..you don’t discontinue perfection, you continue to build on it !
"WartHog" -- nothing like it, and Nothing can replace it. Until you have seen it saving your Bacon; then you will Never know!!

A10 should remain in service beyond the mid 2030’s. Outstanding equipment.
I remember seeing a video when I was in the military during Desert Storm where a A-10 had a hole big enough to stand in on a wing. Pilot said a missile went through it. There were reports of A-10 so damaged that they pushed them off the runway because they were unrepairable. Talk about a tough jet
The A10 is what the F4U Corsair was to the Marines in the Pacific during WW2. One of the best close air support aircraft of its time.
and The P47 Thuderbolt was to the Tank destroyers in Europe WW2..hence Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt
In Vietnam, we loved hearing the Hueys and Cobras come in to save our asses. I know todays soldiers must have the same feelings about the A-10. Keep it alive so it can keep our soldiers alive.
The original Designers of it and the B-52 new their stuff.
The A-10 is perhaps the greatest close air support airframe ever made. Friendly ground combatants liked to know they had an aircraft like the A-10 minutes away to clearly turn a bad situation around.
I was so lucky too be in Germany when the very first A10s Showed up ! Too the 🎉 1st Infantry Division !
Best Gun Truck ever to fly
The Grunts best friend! The Fighter Mafia doesn't like it, but the Grunt on the ground does.
Give the A-10 to the Army.
The A10 is a sweet looking machine . When the troops see it coming they know they are safe.
The A10 should live for ever it dose the job of fighter jets up close.
it already is. lol Air Force is the child of Army. USAAF (United States Army Air Corps) US Air Force in WWII. USAF is in lock step with USA
Facts. The Army should have its own air force to be honest.
@@dallasyap3064 Yes! Just like Navy and Marines!
Thank the man upstairs this amazing aircraft hasn't been wayside. The A-10 truly is like no other, we should never let it go. Glad the Airforce didn't scrap them & gave them some sweet high tech upgrades. The ground troops truly need these too. Thanks for the video 😊
Should never be replaced!!!
Absolutely. It is a damn shame that the good ol' Civil War musket ball was replaced. It worked just fine.
So why haven't the US sent Warthogs to Ukraine!

الروس اليوم فتكو ب اف ١٦ احدث من القديمه
Different missions but if they use them defensively and put several sidewinders on then they could knock cruise missiles and drones out of the sky , in the same way F16s are doing it now.
Or they could use them sparingly on the front lines then retreat. And have some type of anti air defense system in place when warthogs are returning and missiles were fired at them from further out , the AA defense could knock those missiles off the warthogs' back. The front lines, in some cases, have enemy troops only 200-300 meters away, so doing a quick bombing run on a trench and quickly returning is feasible, I believe.
Absolutely. The A-10 is in a league all its own. For what it does. And nothing strikes fear like the sounds that aircraft makes
So can anyone explain to me why these are not being sent to Ukraine?
Becoz Zelinksi doesn't deserve to have one.
The way the world is shaping up we will need the "Retromod" A-10c sooner than people think.
This is hands down best aircraft the American arsenal has from the air! I flew one back in the 70's.
The A-10 Warthog and the B-52 Stratofortress are absolutely vital !! this is my sentiment, if it's not broke why fix it !??
Loved the video! The A-10 has proven itself over, and over again. A fabulous aircraft!
Keep improving never retire
Brand New Super A-10 Warthog looks amazing. Thanks for showing us.
I would only replace the A-10 with an A-20 Razorback built upon an A-10 chassis, with the following improvements
1. Sweep back wings and tail for supersonic flight speed
2. Upgraded engines for more thus 5000 to 8000 lbs more
3. Longer wings to increase payload
4. Most versions should have two pilots a weapons specialist to take the load off the lead pilot
5. Two of those Avenger Gatling guns with reduced rate of fire to enable the aircraft to do more damage to targets and stay on station longer
6. The larger A-20 should be built around the 2 Gatling guns, with a wider fuselage to carry more fuel
7. Finally the A-20 should carry 8 air to air missiles instead of 4. 😮
Sounds like a big engineering task... I often wonder if America could build a replacement for the A10, given the current darling of stealth.
A10 is a magnificent machine that would be hard to replace.
Yep, the Warthog should be updated. I was Infantry back in the late 70’s. Watched it through my retirement in 2006. Gaaa, what a help. Always happy for its help, when it could come.
Here is my opinion! It's like a George Therogood song! Born bad to the bone! BaBa bad to the bone and still kicking ass!
It goes brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt.
A memeber of Rotary, his son was in Special Forces. They thought the A-10 the most valuable air asset in the inventory. To kill it now is insane.
I consider this plane to be a true fighter even if it does not have the "Fighter" designation. Keep this plane.
Hell yeah it does!

Infantry love A10, you know the guys with their lives on the line, but people in suits keep trying to kill it without an alternative replacement. 🙄
nothing better than hearing the sound of those tutbofans... you know there's a good guy in the air that's got your back..!
Grew up by Davis Monthan AFB and have been watching these fly above Tucson all my life. One of the better things about Tucson
The key is, how can it cope with Manpads and other SAM’s. It would appear too vulnerable. But, I would like to see them give it a try.
I built this model when I was young. LOVED IT , my favorite build came out spot on. Before I realized what kind of the model I was making also the Wild Weasel. And the USS Missouri. I just like the way they look.. after I grew up. I learned the true significance that they played.
I trained with these at Ft. Leonard Wood back in the 80s.
As long as it works keep it around. Just the name assures respect. It has earned its keep.
The A-10 is old enough that the chinese did not copy it which is nice
