What is it about New Zealand that produces so many phenomenally talented singer songwriters? Ms Parsons is another incredibly gifted composer and performer in the indie / alt country scene from the very edge of the southwest Pacific. It is hard to sing her praises sufficiently. I just hope the she can someday make it over to Sydney to perform some of her so many beautiful songs.
Recently discovered the music of Mel Parsons through Brokenwood cd, and I love the tone, pace and range of songs. There is a UK artist called Thea Gilmore that has a similar range and tone if you are looking for more inspiration.
Thank you, Mel and Ron, for this wonderful music. I heard this on ABC local radio one morning and it immediately spoke to me, especially the gentle, lilting, yet emotionally-powerful melody. I love it as it can be both comforting and uplifting at the same time, and has helped me a little through some recent depression. Needless to say, I bought Drylands the next day, and wasn't disappointed :-) . Keep up the great work. - Em.
