  • The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, opened in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1932, one the first really iconic buildings designed by a woman, Elisabeth Scott. She was chosen as the architect through a competition, yet many of the public were stunned that a woman had been chosen to design such an iconic building. Scott was one of the first women to study for the Architectural Association, which had refused to accept female students prior to 1917.
