In other words, proper trade (risk) management is the key to winning, not just making a trade that should turn out good.
That chart is showing the total inflows of cash you've made at that time of the trade. Money in from the calls , money in from the puts. The negative amounts are what you've paid out (bought) in the trade.
How do you know at what time of the day to do the butterfly call? If you try and do this close to expiration, will this not become more expensive and harder to execute?
I would say around 10am when you can see the trend of the day, also check if there are any major news for that day. If underlying is trending then do either call or put spread, if underlying is not doing much, then iron condor...
Fidelity does not permit selling and buying calls (or puts) at the same strike price with the same expiration date. Therefore, in this case, Fidelity would block the butterfly roll because it does not allow the sequence of selling a 6080 call (SC) and later buying a 6080 call (BC), or buying a 6090 call (BC) and later selling a 6090 call (SC).
This is an IC - Iron Condor. There is no common strike, short Call is 6080, short Put is 6050. But, that is true about Fidelity, they consider it day trading and you have to have been approved for such.

However, when he later added a butterfly roll to convert the loss into a gain, he added 6080BC and 6090SC, but initially, he had 6080SC and 6090BC. Fidelity does not permit buying and selling the same strike on the same expiration day, so this type of order just cannot be submitted.

The market is just as likely to come back into your original range as it is to stay where it is or continue. In that case, the roll costs you. If the market carries on trending up, you still take max loss plus the cost of the roll. Any adjustment is based on your opinion of where the market will go, and is just as likely to cost you as help you. A roll is just closing the trade (for a loss here) and opening a new trade. No magic way to save a trade.

Good question. I should point out that the opposite direction is even more dangerous. For example, the $SPX fell from 6070 to 5872 yesterday, way below the puts in the options chain! 😬
Just close the position and walk away with whatever gain it gives before 5 mins any special event going to take place like FOMC. Can always initiate a new position when the dust has settled. Play safe is part of risk management.

The technique is interesting, thank you for that. However, do not trade the strategy shown in this video every day. Between April 7th and December 18th 2024, this strategy would have ruined your account. You would have had only 9 full wins (no rolls) and 26 partial wins (1 roll) in 180 trading days. The other 145 trading days would have been terrible losers.
You would have lost almost 10000 if the market had moved slightly more upwards.. this is not a good strategy.. I would start buying 6075 and selling 6090 if the market is going upwards.

What if SPX keeps going up and now your roll over new position is getting attacked? Roll again and again?
The video has an error on the butterfly roll, it shows 6090 and 6100 as puts, but those are calls.

Yes, since the price had increased, the adjustment was on the calls.

Does a condor keep the in the money call from having an actual stock called?
No they don't, but in this case you won't get stock assigned as index options settle to cash.
An IC on SPY could get assigned the underlying
I would have liked to see a comparison between the roll and just closing when the index reached 6081. Or even just before if you are monitoring.
at the 9:30 mark you have 6090 puts and 6080 puts but i think it should be calls.

Clarify - it is the way Fidelity interprets SEC rules on spreads, other brokers interpret differently...
One thing to avoid is do 1DTE (Days to Expiration). So, create your IC or Bfly and setup the next day as expiration (1DTE)

Mistake made in trade. Did not fix by selling and buying back Puts. Actually were calls of 6090 and 6100, not puts in diagram
