Love to see so many of the budget manual focus companies jumping into the auto focus game with good results, like meike and ttartisan. Look forward to what they come out with next!
For some reason, this lens flew under a lot of reviewers radars. I think it's because the TTArtisans and Viltrox 56mm lenses came out around the same time for a little less money. I zeroed in on this one. I have the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 C lens for the Fuji mount and was looking to sell it. Saw that I could get $300 on the used market for it and I could pick this up brand new for $200 and thought it would be nice to try out. I actually like it more because of the aperture ring and both of these lenses focus better than the native Fuji lens. The lens hood is a weakness...it feels like junk. I may end up trying to find an alternative that threads in.
Hi Mark, I’m so glad I have been following your recommendations which has helped me a lot. I have a quick question : I own a zve10 and fx30 and using 3rd party lenses like sigma and tamaron. Any news at your end of planning to restrict third party lenses in their latest firmware upgrades?? I was planing to invest on more lenses like the viltrox 27mm f1.2 but a lot of local vendors here gave me this insight about Sony planning to restrict the functionality of third party lenses in their upcoming firmware upgrades! Looking forward to your thoughts on this ! Thanks
I don't have any insight, but I can say that Sony has always had an open system which is why they were so successful. I don't think that will change Sony already has built some advantages in for themselves - burst rate of over 15fps is reserved for sony and better stabilization happens with sony lenses and sony bodies. I still buy 3rd party, myself. I think Sony would see a major backlash if they restricted 3rd party further
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisisyes I have similar thoughts thanks for your prompt response ! Also that brings me to my next : Viltrox 27mm f1.2 or sigma 30mm f1.4 ! Which one would u choose if there’s an option to choose only one.
Speaking of AF, do you mean that this lens misses focus sometimes or slow focusing? It seems to me that camera should re-adjust focus and wait until it locks on
I love your channel. You have a great personality. You do amazing videos but it’s time that you figured out your sign in the background has zero contrast and the blue light for people with bad eyes sucks. I’m a positive person and I’m trying to help you out here put white light in the blue sign and people might be able to read it. Sorry to be blunt, but I’m trying to help. It’s so hard to read the sign in thebackground. Keep up the great work love your videos.
this is a prime lens. it does not zoom. you can use clear image zoom on your Sony cameras if you want. but prime lenses are meant to be one focal length.
I have both. I’d say the Meike is sharper than the sigma across the frame. It’s a warmer tone than the Sigma and it has more vignette than the Sigma. However, I feel like it has a bit more character for portraits because of the slight vignette and warmth. However I noticed the sigma lets in a bit more light (the Meike would sometimes need iso 1250 for a shot the Sigma could do at iso 1000). Also, sometimes I feel the sigma has a bit more details in the shadows and I put +1/3 stop exposure comp on when I use the Meike. Overall, I prefer the Meike because of the aperture ring and added sharpness and maybe a bit more character wide open vs flatter image of the Sigma .
I'm just searching for a lens and get so confused. So is this designed for APS-C so the 55mm is really 55mm (not 55x1.5 = 82mm APS-C compatible from a full frame lens)??
Hi! No, its not 55. You still need to apply crop factor. A Fuji apsc 23mm lens is 35 mm full frame equivalent with a x1.6 crop factor. A micro four third 25mm lens is 50mm equivalent with a x2 crop factor. It’s a 55mm lens, but you get a field of view equivalent to 80 ish mm on a full frame camera. To get a 55mm field of view on your apsc camera, you will need to get an apsc lens of 35mm ish So, with full frame, the focal length stated on the lens is what you get. For smaller sensor sizes, multiply the stated focal length by the crop factor of the sensor size to get your actual field of view, which is measured in relation to full frame field of view. This is why some wildlife folks love smaller sensors. A 400mm micro four thirds lens gives you an 800mm equivalent reach and gets you much closer to the action. Hope that helps!
Nope, it doesn't work like that. Apsc lens means the picture will only fit the apsc sensor so if you put to full frame you need to do some cropping. In other scenario full frame lens will give much more information more than what the apsc sensor could take (out of frame), so it's losing some sharpness.
How many different Chinese/Korean companies are making lenses for our favorite cameras? Note: This is made in Hong Kong. We have lenses made in China, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan and South Korea. Just talking about Asian countries not European countries. One other thing, the colors of your photos really pop out. Simply beautiful. Are the JPEG?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Whatever you do, the colors grabs my attention. I wish the area I live in has as much character. Desert cities by Riverside, CA, is loaded with glorious brown dirt. We see it in the air when the wind blows.

The prob whit chinese optics is the quality control. None of the reviews results are guarantee that you will have similar results whit your retail unit
Maybe you're not getting all the videos in your feed. I already reviewed that Sigma lens. As well as the Sigma 24-70 Art ii and my last video compared the Sony 16-25, the tamron 17-28 and the Sigma 16-28. I also did a tripod, two mic videos, and a gimbal video . So out of my last 10 - there were two Chinese lens videos (although I did do a third comparing one to a sigma). But not too bad of a balance, no?
I hope the cheap and cheerful Chinese lens outfits sell enough lenses like this to scare the real lens artisans like Nikon, Leica, Voigtlander, Hasselblad and Minolta (err sorry Sony) into making better quality innovative lenses.

Quite interested in this lens, does it show vignetting when mounted on full frame?
This lens looks great for the money. Wonder how it compares to the TTArtisan 56mm/f1.8
Finally, someone pronounced Meike and interpret it correctly! BTW do you know that Laowa is actually "old frog" in direct translation?
Haha - old frog!!
Great lens. But would have loved to see some video footage and also what the coverage looked like on full frame, both in photo and video. Thanks.
