“Go the Distance” is definitely the I want song that made me believe I can do anything as long as I, like Hercules, work hard, treat others fairly, and never give up on my dreams.
I’m so happy that “How Far I’ll Go” and “Into the Unknown” and “Out There” made the list cause those are among my all time favorite Disney songs (and films) and I can NEVER resist singing along out loud whenever the song plays when I’m watching the movie
1. Reflection (Mulan) 2. Into the Unknown (Frozen 2) 3. When Will My Life Begin (Tangled) 4. Part of Your World (The Little Mermaid) (Which I sing every time I go to the ocean)
Me too! Most of my classmates statistically stay where we’re from, even return post-college. Growing up, I hated the idea of staying there. I wanted to be introduced to other places and other ways of thinking and I couldn’t do that by staying.
Disney always had "I want" songs since Snow White but it's only after The Little Mermaid and "Part of Your World" that that's been the formula ever since; in other words, Ariel walked (or swam) so others like Anna and Elsa could run
Underrated “I want” song, from an underrated movie that I think could have fit well on this list: “I’m Still Here” from “Treasure Planet” I love Treasure Planet, it’s a great movie, with beautiful animation and an amazing “I want” song. Anyone agree?
For sure! Treasure Planet is one of the best films ever and it’s the film that got me into my obsession of the mixed genre known as sci fi fantasy-action adventure, which contains movies such as Avatar, Pirates of the Caribbean, and of course Star Wars, which is my biggest obsession of all, and all because of a Disney movie that is severe,y underrated. Treasure Planet has such an amazing story and music score and animation and it will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart
You get no complaints from me about Part of Your World being the top “I want” Disney song. Sure, some other titles like Out There, Go the Distance, and I Just Can’t Wait to Be King are powerful and catchy in their own right, but Ariel’s song has a fascinating background, as it almost never saw the light of day and it too is a powerful song as well.
I knew it wouldn't be here but I REALLY wanted, "A Place Called Slaughter Race," from Ralph Breaks the Internet to be on this list. The fact that it parodies both the "I Want" song and Broadway Musicals in general while still actually holding up as Vanellope's "I Want," song, expressing her desire to leave the routine and mundane of Sugar Rush, for the excitement and thrills of Slaughter Race. This song killed me when I first saw/listened to it in the film because the moment was set up perfectly!
“Slaughter Race” is literally set up as an “I Want” song to end all “I Want” songs. The entire clubhouse of Disney Princesses….. all of whom have there own “I Want” songs (except Merdia, as Brave has no!plot driven songs), tell Vanellope that they all break out into song as part of being a Princess. Reck-it Ralph was another move without plot driven songs until that point, so the one they do get is pretty epic. And foreshadowed beautifully.
Great list! I love the Disney “I want songs”. Reflection, Out There, and I can go the Distance are easily in my top three the I want songs are the songs to inspire me to be my self, get out more and become open-minded about the world and follow my dreams. The I want songs are the songs I always look forward to in a Disney Musical.
10. A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes - Cinderella 9. How Far I'll Go - Moana 8. Into the Unknown - Frozen 2 7. Almost There - The Princess and the Frog 6. Belle (Reprise) - Beauty and the Beast 5. I Just Can't Wait To Be King - The Lion King 4. Go the Distance - Hercules 3. Reflection - Mulan 2. Out There - The Hunchback of Notre Dame 1. Part of Your World - The Little Mermaid *Honorable mentions:* When Will My Life Begin? - Tangled; Strangers Like Me - Tarzan; I'm Wishing -Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs; One Jump Ahead (Reprise) - Aladdin; Just Around the Riverbend - Pocahontas.
Of course, the gold medal had to be the genius that ignited the renaissance. The lyrics are simply captivating. How I wish Disney would keep the memory of Howard Ashman alive, not just in some credit roll or documentary. After all, he was the man who "gave a mermaid her voice, and the beast his soul." After 30 years, may our generation and onward welcome him into our voices and souls. May we become part of his as well.
True, I don't think any Disney lyricist (and hardly any lyricist in general) has matched Ashman's mix of wit and sincerity. And now all I wish for is that he would still have been around when "Beauty and the Beast" was turned into a stage musical. I am sure his version of what is now "If I can't love her" would have been heartbreaking.
@@edddymit3d811 Absolutely. I'm also happy to see two songs from his original version of Aladdin have been added to the stage musical production. I also liked the way he presented a smooth transition from dialogue to song, the role a song must play to make it work, and how entertainment in general only works if it is presented on a medium with a different level of reality or existence. Genius concepts which has sustained theatre, song, animation, and entertainment for 30 years and counting.
Kiss the girl by Ashley Tisdale Once upon a dream by Emily Osment How far I'll go by Alessia cara Cruella de vil by selena gomez Let it go by demi lovato Into the unknown by panic at the disco That's my list
15:07 Of course! My favorite Disney song of all time! I feel so lucky that I got to see one of my favorite people in the whole world Jodi Benson sing Part of Your World right in front of me this past Saturday!
This list is LONG overdue. Here are my top ten favorite"I want" songs. 1. Out There 2. Around the River Bend 3. How Far I'll Go 4. Go the Distance 5. I Just Can't Wait to be King 6. Into the Unknown 7. Reflections 8. Part of Your World 9. When Will My Life Begin 10. One Jump Ahead(reprise)
I have to agree with 'Out There' and 'Part of Your World' being the top two. Hunchback of Notre Dame has always been one of my favorite Disney movies, and between those two songs, it fully encapsulates the entire pandemic/convention mood for me. I kinda grew up watching The Little Mermaid almost every day during a summer break, so I can definitely relate to Ariel. But now with the pandemic in full swing (again in some areas), 'Out There' is definitely appropriate.
Yup. I agree with you there. Ariel singing Part of Your World was the first song I ever heard from a Disney film and has such a timeless feel to it. As an adult, Out there has a more dramatic and mature take on the I want song. Both are great songs of yearnings from two outsiders looking in.
Little Mermaid would not be successful if Jeffrey Katzenberg had his way Ron, John, Glen Keane and Howard Ashman fought hard to keep that song in the film even Howard threatened to quit if it was pulled
Whenever Mojo makes a Disney song list - I stop what im doing and watch just to see which songs ranks #1 on the list. Great list. Top favorites: Belle's Reprise, Go the Distance + Reprise, Reflection, Part of Your World, Just Around the River Bend and my all titular top, Out There. Man, you have to hear the entire song that includes Tony Jay and Tom Hulce who play Frodo and Quasimodo's roles so well. One of the best songs Disney has made.
1. The Little Mermaid 2. Frozen 3. Frozen 2 4. Tangled 5. Tarzan 6. Kim Possible So The Drama 7. Aladdin 8. Beauty and the Beast 9. The Lion King 10. Simbas pride My Favorite Best Disney movies ever
Ms mojo definitely has favorite movies lol they are Lion king, beauty and the beast, Aladdin, Mulan, and the little mermaid. The’re least favorites are frozen encanto, tangled and moana
Swap "How Far I'll Go" with "Out There," and I can get down with the order of this list. Having the beautiful signature song from "Moana" that low is pretty uncool. Conversely, while "Out There" is a well written song, I can't get over the awkward vibrato of Quasimodo's singing voice. It just bugs me. Plus it followed a Disney musical trend I hated: having a different actor for the speaking and singing voices for characters. "Reflection" is the only one of those I can truly get behind, and that's because it's just so perfectly written. Auli'i sang her own songs and voiced Moana, and she was incredible at both! My ranking: 1) How Far I'll Go 2) Part of Your World 3) Reflection 4) Belle 5) Go the Distance
I love the “I want” songs for Belle and Beast in the musical. I love the “Belle (reprise) but it’s so short! On the other hand, “Home” is so beautiful, sad, yet hopeful that somehow things will get better, and “If I Can’t Love Her” is the Beast’s mirror to that song.
Another one I would've put on the Honorable Mentions would be "This Place Called Slaughter Race" from _Ralph Breaks the Internet_ (Wreck-It Ralph 2) when Vanellope von Schweetz sings about wanting to drive cars and get out of Sugar Rush.
My top 5: Belle Reprise, Out There, Reflection, When Will My Life Begin?, Part Of Your World Wouldn’t God Help The Outcasts count as an I want some too? Great list Emily.
I love them all I even know all of them except for number four the Hercules one but however I do love them all and I do know most of those songs by heart
Best “I want” Songs in Disney Movies that describes a girl with a disability and has her dream job she has worked for a long time Go the Distance- Hercules ( I sing this song as tribute of how far I have came finally having my dream job as my reality) How far I’ll go- Moana ( witch I sing every time I go to the ocean) Almost there- Princess and the Frog One jump ahead Reprise- Aladdin ( how I feel about having a disability at times) How far I’ll go reprise ( witch I sing every time I go to the ocean)
Definitely agree part of ur world is the best of these. Thanks so much for ur video! I was in high school when little mermaid came out and when I was sad i would sing it to myself. Also loved Aladdin too. A whole new world was our senior prom theme and love the one here also after watching top ten songs of Disney movies. Sometimes I sing let it go to myself nowadays as frozen is one of the latest Disney movies out. But loved tangled also. The lion king is also a favorite. The fact that I haven't watched hunchback, Moana, or Pocohontas yet leaves a lot left to inspire me. I never give up cause if Disney doesn't then why should i?
While it isn’t my favorite, Just Around the Riverbend is so beautiful as her father actually sings the first verse 100% sure Kocuom will make Pocahontas happy and safe. But she emotes how much she wants adventure and something new, the coursing river she chooses symbolizes her free spirit and actually leads her to John Smith, a free spirit just like her. Honestly she kept taking a risk by constantly following him, leading up to their magical encounter.
I 100% agree with Part of Your World being number one, but I really thought that you would mention Howard Ashman and his involvement with the “I want” song.
"Into the Unknown" (Frozen 2) "Part Of Your World" (The Little Mermaid) "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes" (Cinderella) "I Wonder" (Sleeping Beauty) "How Far I'll Go" (Moana) "Reflection" (Mulan) "I'm Wishing" (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs)
Other Disney characters from i want songs like let it go from frozen and almost there from the princess and the frog and i just can't wait to be king from the lion king and i can go the distance from Hercules to Cinderella and mulan from reflection and tangled and tarzan and snow white and jump ahead reprise from Aladdin and just around the riverband from Pocahontas and the little mermaid and other songs from Disney on tv or on movies
My Top 5 I Want songs are "Part of Your World", "Out There", "Reflection", "Go to the Distance" and (not mentioned in this video) "I'm Still Here" from Treasure Planet.
I love to listen that "let it go" song but i can't listen to it on my own cuz it's not a good look for me(according to my friends) so i wait for my niece to come back home from school and then i can finally listen to it and sing along with her.
Man! “I Want” songs may be a dime a dozen in Disney movies, but there sure are some great ones! I think my favourites on this list (as well as honourable mentions) are How Far I’ll Go, Into the Unknown, Almost There, I Just Can’t Wait To Be King, Go the Distance, Out There, and When Will My Life Begin. 😊🎶🎵🎤🏰🐭✨
I vote for Never Before & Never Again, Movin' Right Along, I'm Going To Go Back There Someday, Rainbow Connection - The Muppet Movie. He'll Make Me Happy - Muppets Take Manhattan.
I love Reflection, Go the Distance and especially Out There. 😍 There should be another list for the rest of the honorable mentions 😁 there is so many good songs.
That Pixar movie Luca, which just became available on Blu-ray, reminds me of the Little mermaid. Someone even put Part of Your World (sung by a different artist) to scenes from the early parts of the Luca film
well Luca is about a fish kid who wants more and want to explore the surface despite parents saying it dangerous so Luca is similar to the little mermaid
@@scarletttyson4622 true but there's also some differences. For one thing he didn't have to make a deal with an evil sea witch in order to walk on land. All he had to do is just get dry. Lol.
yeah I know that Luca and little mermaid isn’t exactly the same story there just a few nods in the film that would make people think of the little mermaid
@@scarletttyson4622 and right now that Luca film is practically my favorite picture movie right now I literally watched it 10 times on Disney plus and been looking forward for the bonus features on Blu-ray. It actually came in the mail yesterday right on my birthday
Princess Jorala from my fanon Disney movie, Jorala has one: Somewhere waiting far in space. Jorala sings this because she wanted to get away, she has a vision of a planet teaming with life, with wonderful creatures and machines, a place where everyone lived in peace and happiness. Later when she is escaping her captors, the evil Gorgians, Jorala hijacked one of their ships. Once she’s getting away, she was hit and she crash landed on earth; a place she visioned of.
Glad 'Almost There' is on here 'Princess & the Frog' doesn't get enough love. So happy 'Out There' is on here, but it should be #1 - it's far superior to 'Part of Your World'

I love the music on the song.

It's funny that most of these are Disney princess songs 😂😂😂
Why is that funny??

Wow wow wo! No Pinocchio? When you wish upon a star is an anthem for our deepest desires!
I guess that is because When You Wish Uopn A Star is an "if you want it" song rather than an "I want" song.
Part of your World is an amazing song! It definitely deserves its number one rank!
Out There is my favorite because its my favorite Disney movie is Hunchback of Notre Dame and the animation is stunning during that scene
I love the “I want” songs for Belle and Beast in the musical. I love the “Belle (reprise) but it’s so short!

"I Wonder" (Sleeping Beauty)
"How Far I'll Go" (Moana)
"Reflection" (Mulan)

My Top 5 I Want songs are "Part of Your World", "Out There", "Reflection", "Go to the Distance" and (not mentioned in this video) "I'm Still Here" from Treasure Planet.
I want it all from high school musical 3 anyone? It has "i want" in the title
I fell in love with the dream is a wish song when I was a kid
16 Minutes of goosebumps
Great List!
very very great epic list I like it a lot very great job mis mojo one of my absolute favorite list ever ❤
Too bad this video came out before Encanto. Waiting on a Miracle could've definitely made it to this list.
I vote for Never Before & Never Again, Movin' Right Along, I'm Going To Go Back There Someday, Rainbow Connection - The Muppet Movie.
He'll Make Me Happy - Muppets Take Manhattan.
Where is Sharpay''s iconic Fabulous song from High School Musical 2?
When it comes to movie musicals no one can top Disney.
16:13 one of the song's best parts.
I saw The Little Mermaid in the thumbnail so I instantly clicked.
Me too!
Nostalgia
A whole new world should be here
Here you can clearly see that Aladdin is just a male version of Cinderella, only adventure themed film
"After Today" from a goofy movie is elite
🦁👑 is my favourite Disney movie ever 😍😘.
I agree with number one for sure
0:12 That song should've been in the honorable mentions or the list
Can you do some theories more? I love them!
Once she’s getting away, she was hit and she crash landed on earth; a place she visioned of.
into the unknown should've been #2, belle reprise should've been #3, reflection should've been #4 in how the list goes
Glad 'Almost There' is on here 'Princess & the Frog' doesn't get enough love.
So happy 'Out There' is on here, but it should be #1 - it's far superior to 'Part of Your World'
