- Just for fun, I’m comparing the microphone I’ve been using for many years (Shure SM7b) against a much higher-end microphone (Mojave Audio MA-1000) I borrowed from a friend. Not a fair comparison by any stretch! Let me know if you hear a difference, and if you do, comment below about which you preferred and why. Also, should I do a full cover of this song?

The second one gives a more powerful vocal and more clear the sound.

For me the Shure also sounds more compressed, theres more fine detail coming through and the mojave also sounds more dynamic, especially towards the lower end of Marcs vocal. Towards the higher end of audio equipment, you pay for the fine details.

The more expensive mic is slightly better (maybe not worth the price diff) but honestly I would happily listen to you sing into a Dixie cup with a string coming out the bottom pressed into the wall of a train tunnel. PLEASE do a full cover of this beautiful song!!!

Your voice is so good the mike does not matter to me. Professionally you would probably want the more expensive one but your "old faithful" made you sound just as good. I really couldn't tell a difference. Just love your voice and the way you sing.
As a 50+ Rock/Metal Amateur Drummer/vocalist, this song is one of my long time guilty secrets, what a beautiful rendition of this song Marc, and seriously CANNOT tell which is better, maybe the song sang as a whole on each mic ran alongside each other ?...... or maybe it's them drums? 🤣

It's amazing to see (and hear) that your voice record is wide enough to sing almost anything. Your talent goes way far than just singing Queen songs, and it would be great to hear more of you covering other singers.

Thank you Marc. The Mojave does have more "brilliance of tone and vocal richness". But as anything, is it worth it? Yes, in your case, as I am sure you have very high quality audio equipment in your studio. So if I was able to tell just on my little home computer the difference. What you should ask yourself as a vocalist, "What is my weakest link in my studio sound reproduction and should/can I live with that?" Just my opinion, and yes, bless you and your amazing God given talent that pleases so many hearts.
One other thing, after the first couple toggling back and forth. I did it with only my ears after I knew what I was listening for.
I don’t think I can tell. Same as with new phones with better cameras. It’s been more than 5 years that my eye can’t make the difference. Same with my ears here. I can’t feel the difference, especially on different phrases. I am looking forward to the full version. It’s one of my favorite songs and you are perfect for it.

On my system, a Denon receiver, good DAC and PSB speakers, I heard a big difference with the more expensive mike giving you more depth and dynamic range. My wife even agreed with me 🤔 I think it is worth the investment to capture the full range and detail of your vocals. Great video Marc , now do entire song for us fans!
What a treat to be asked to help you decide on the mic! Your silky vocals are ideal for this song (one I've been hoping you'd cover) and sound great with either mic. The Mojave perhaps registers more echo, which was extreme in the George Michael version. I think I prefer the Shure in this case. Please do it soon!

Every time I listen to you sing, I am just mesmerized by your song and voice 😊 👍 actually, whichever mic is okay I guess, and when you have a concert on RUclips ( connecting each other from the different paces ) with your band members or musician friends, the MA-1000 seems to pick up the sounds clearer than the other one 😊 if I may 🙏

Yes on the full cover. I am a huge George Michael fan and his music is awesome. Would love to hear you do "Something to Save" and "Praying for Time". As for the mics, the Mojave is better, hands down. Just a much clearer tone and sound. But they both sound great.

The Mojave sounds much richer in the softer vocals by quite a bit. It was hard to tell them apart when singing the louder parts though imo.

It gives depth and richness and wide range. However, all these years we have been enjoying your incredible voice through Shure and we have never complained. So, I guess, if you have some extra money and you want to spend it on a new mic, do it. If you don't, it's not necessary.

Honestly, you could sing with a stick and sound mindblowingly good. But for what it is worth - if both settings were identical - the Mojave was marginally better / clearer, or „breathier“. Reverby? That a word yet?

Whoa. This is definitely a great example of "you get what you pay for"! There's a noticable _richness_ that the MA-1000 adds to your vocal. But the Shure is definitely a great speaking mic and ol' standby!

@@noitallmanaz There is a difference, but it might not be as noticable depending on how (or from what device) you are listening to this recording.
issue being get what you pay for. I've even heard some great usb mics. Old Stereo mics that use Batteries. I used to love my RCA Ribbon, but today's ribbons are crap in today's dollars that was a $4000 mic that sounded like a $10000 rig

The Mojave mic makes your voice sound even better than the other one. It catches more nuances and makes also your voice sound even more "saturated" - at least if a word that describes colours well also applies to sound vibes. But then, of course, whether or not you also think that the Mojave mic is better, the real winner of this battle is you. :)

Yes Mark! There is a significant difference between both. SM-7 sounds great but the MA-1000 sound is amazingly cleaner and brighter than the Shure. If I was afforded to have one, I’d definitely go for the MA. Cheers!

Marc, this probably won't get seen with a million plus subscribers, but regardless, I've always wanted to tell you this story. When I accepted Christ as my Savior, I was looking for more inspirational bands to listen to. I somehow found Downhere. I heard the song You're not Alone on a cd. First time I heard it, I heard this voice in the background. I had to go tell everyone I knew about this voice. I made them listen. Haha I just knew anyone with that voice was simply not discovered yet. But most importantly, because of Alcohol addiction, I felt so alone. That song brought tears to my eyes realizing I had never been alone. I'm now 47 and never forgot. Many years passed. Life got busy, life got better, I had forgotten about you and that voice for several years. Then I could not believe it when your Queen audition went viral, yet I could believe it at the same time. I'm 47 now, and that 1 song still gets me, reminds me of the aloneness I never will experience again. It changed my life. I now have an amazing family and wanted to say thank you. I'm so happy to see how far you've come. I still think you should be selling out arenas, but that's just me. Lol Take care and again, thank you for sharing your voice and your faith with the world. It made a difference in this man's life.

Mojave Audio MA-1000 is better by far, has extra bass and depth, yours is more simple sound and prima, sorry for my English, i hope you understand what i'm saying, as a musician it's easier for me to listen the differences, kisses from Greece, we love your talent, keep going

The mojave sounds both richer and clearer to me. It was somehow more noticeable on tablet speakers than with headphones.
It is a subtle difference to pay so much for though.

You hear the entirety of your voice if that makes any sense. I listened to be fair with my eyes shut I saw what you started with and when I heard a change I open my eyes and I can definitely hear the soft undertones with the new Mic.
