As a teen when I first heard this song on the radio in Jamaica I immediately went on the hunt for the record at various record shops and would not relent until I got the album and what a treasure find this album was. This song a cross of latin rhythm and funk...... awesome
This is 1 of my all time roller skating jammies from back in the day in the n.y. Man the fond memories that are flooding my brain. Close my eyes & can see my friends playing tag..hide & go get it... parents preppin the food @ the cooks out that took place during the summer of 1980 & all my older friends preppin to hit the club scene that is so missed in the big apple. I really miss those days & i'm sure plenty other n.y. cats can pump both fists in the air & wave them like they just dont care.
Im lovin this tune all over...30plus years of marriage & im ready to walk down that lane again & again. I will always love this tune, divorce will never enter this marriage. Just sit back & listen to this lovely tune.. ahh man recall this joint being played on a huge boom box we all jammed @ the parks with the smell of a grill in the near back ground!!
This is one of my favorite bands. They produced 3 incredible unmatched records which are fortunately available on CD!! Thanks for this special version!
This was one of my favorite tunes too! This was after the RTF era. I was a little disappointed because I was expecting some more fusion work but, it showed how versatile one of my all time favorite drummers was.
30 years! That was the last time I heard this song. I'm surprised I recognized the tune when I spotted it here, because I forgot the name of the artist.
this is 1 of my all time fav when i was around 12 loving good music was always a part of me amazing i could think bak n remember me dancing in the living room fantasizing of bein a sexy dancer...........
what I love right now,is all you kids, and the memories we all are sharing, god there is no greater feeling than reading all your replies to this song.Picture this, imagine,if we all met in one place,at one time, and heard this song, the ecstacy, and happiness just from one song is pricless.even in a snow storm, just make sure its loud enogh, all that happiness is enough to keep us warm !! peace out kids !!
Yup Gene Dunlap the party in me's the jam. I used to rock this on the box back in the day. Nice doubled acoustic and prophet 5 syntheiszer bass, same keyboard used on Dunlap's track. Guys also check out Lenny White My Turn to Love You..that was one of those paradise tracks in NYC the summer of '83, with Bernard Fowler of Peech Boys on vocals. Nice dub as well.
@daryllharris "CONTINUED" I have read many comments & cats our age or older have come across tunes & are amazed that they never heard of this or that.Lenny white is an artist who has fallen between the cracks... like many other jazzy/funk style artist from that era & prior.
PORT - 2 like gene dunlap he remains a secret of the past underground r&b club scene. speaking of which i have been into music since 1962 (started early lol), & i have dozens of favorite vocalist, songs & groups but i can esily tell ya bro dunlaps "party in me" IS 1 OF MY FAVORITE FAVORITE, FAVORITE SONGS EVER. certainly in my top 5 songs of all time. the #1 is ROY AYERS "RUNNING AWAY"
TO PORT ay man, lenny white is responsible for several songs that i just can't keep still to. betta, morning sunrise, take me, or leave me. didn't know bout love, love will come again with, chaka & george benson hell yeaH! but i have to tell u that fancy dancer's melody is so captivating that it almost always makes me well up, especially the musical organ overture b4 the breakdown. fuckin slays me. yes lenny has made a mark, just sorry he's never had a mainstream massive hit.
@daryllharris whats up daryll? man its cool to connect with cats like yourself. True to the game & the east coast varied from other areas. I have had many yt convos with others & they are like never heard of this or that. It seems some tunes are so underground that its sick. "CONTINUED"
@port2344chester Port! my man. You are all over the place with comments! I hear you man! I've been married for almost as long (4 kids - two of them adults). It's good to hear from married folk who are happily married. It's a good thing. Peace my brother. Hoping we cross paths one day, if we haven't already met at the Loft or the Garage back in the day.
