Spot on about the student choosing their teacher. my 1st theory/composition class was a disaster (for me). dominating instructors who instead of mentoring and sharing wisdom/knowledge, demand that/art music be created, performed and approached "their/this way" only. luckily i had another teacher who shared, talked and showed, shared. if not for my guitar instructor I would have quit studying and missed some important lessons. curious that at this point in my life i had been given Bitches Brew by the guitar teacher i noted. he handed me his vinyl of the LP and said "Just listen. listen to every note AND the spaces between." that was 1985. still play and love playing, listening and sharing music. these sessions are an incredible wealth of info and wisdom. thanks Dom et al !
