I've never felt so robbed of 10 euro, this should have been free. I miss Wii Sports
Feels important to say that I still love the console and Mario Kart World. This was just not a good time. I picked it up purely to stream it for those curious
You didn’t have to buy it if you already know you were gonna get robbed
It's just a cashgrab Dad, Idk what you expected
From what I've heard, Reggie had to fight Nintendo back then to make wii sports a pack in deal. So they've always been willing to charge for tech demos.
Mate you sound like you are trying to have as good PR as possible
it's a lesser version of the 1 2 Switch problem, where it shouldn't have been paid, but if it was a pack-in, it'd be a dreadful first impression of the system.
It's crazy how this is literally exactly what the stanley parable 2 was making fun of

@@1Eriscoolalright man the Switch 2 is not a flop, but there is no defending the tour lmao I'll give you that.
As someone who worked as a tech associate in retail, those quizzes are just the training they give you. Except Nintendo decided to sell it to their customers. Who already bought the thing being advertised.
What the fuck is going on?
greed

@@bawnawn "People just need to be smarter" is entirely backwards way of thinking. When you want something fixed, you fix it _at the source._ This is like squashing ants as they leave the colony, mouthing to yourself "if they would only just stop going into my house". No, that doesn't work. You solve the problem at the source, which is taking out the ant colony itself or cleaning your home. People buying this stuff blindly is a problem, but ultimately it is a symptom. Symptoms only go away forever if you remove/fix what causes it, not just wishing the symptoms stopped happening.

People would have been mad either way. I mean... have you ever been on the internet. Stupid youtubers are just turning the drama into a grift, but in a normal world, people not caring would just not have bought it.
If this was bundled for free it would be a case of “look at this weird and boring tech demo Nintendo made” and everyone would pop it in once and go “huh well whatever” but because it costs money it's just downright insulting and it doesn't exactly help when people are already upset at Nintendo for raising prices.
@Etienne.6329nah if this was free id think it was really cool, Even if it was paid, but if u were the orignal owner of a switch 2 you got it for free, Id take that, BUT NOOOO its paid :/
ID EVEN TAKE IT BEING INCLUDED IN THE NORMAL CONSOLE AND NOT IN THE MARIO KART BUNDLE
Cuz u made ur choice with that BUT NOPE
@Etienne.6329nah. It is a cute lil interactive user's manual, but you shouldn't be expected to pay for a 30 minute user's manual
Nobody's even gonna pirate this
It's not worth paying for and it's not even worth pirating.
You wanna know a fun fact?

Just for reference, the 3ds came with a music player, a photo mode and viewer (WITH some editing tools), a music player and audio studio, streetpass, mii maker, "face raiders," a web browser, and an ar card mode with a collection of ar cards and game modes. ALL BUNDLED IN THE CONSOLE.
you also need to remember their rivals for the context of why having these things mattered at the time
after all, how is it meant to compete with the psp if it has no features? or hell, how is it meant to compete against its older brothers, like the gameboy and its advanced(mutated) cousin? it needed them because the market was asking for them at the time
the reason why the switch 2(and also the first switch may I add because lets face it, they are both suffer from basically the same issues) is like this is because there is no rival; and if there is no true competition, why bother doing any better?

Honestly Nintendo should be paying you to “play” this
Fun fact: Wii sports was not going to be a free pack-in game until Reggie explained why that was a stupid idea.
This is because Nintendo wanted to charge people for work the employees did
I miss Reggie....
Wii sports was at least good enough they could have charged a bit for it without making people mad

Because it was never a game in the first place. That's why they called it a TECH DEMO. This was not supposed to be for the consumers but for the Suits and Devs who wanted to learn hands-on about the console.

EDIT: I'm sorry, I'm coming back to this because the more I think about it the angrier I get. I don't know that it's necessarily a design 101-level mistake, but "if parts aren't supposed to be interchangeable, design them in a way that they're not interchangeable" is a pretty basic principle of physical design. It's one thing for something like that to slip through the cracks, but they're telling us about it. They're making it clear that they caught the mistake and then chose not to fix it and move forward with that design anyway. Are you serious?
Like let's you paid *_$450_* for a Michelin star dinner. The dessert comes out - chocolate cake - and it's really dense, no rise on it at all, but still tastes alright. Odd choice, you think, but it's not a big deal, doesn't ruin the experience or anything. Later the chef comes out, because you _paid extra_ for a guide to the meal from the folks who made it. Chef asks how the dessert was, you say "it was good! Little bit dense but the flavor was solid" and he goes "ah, yeah, it's not supposed to be like that, we forgot to add the baking soda lol" you'd probably be like "um, what the fuck? I paid $450 for this, why did you give me something you knew had a problem with it?"
I think it was for the fact that "Remember idiots who slid the joycons backwards and they got stuck? You can't do that here!"
It's not a design flaw. It's for the people who slid the original joycons in backwards.

To put this into perspective Wii Sports came free with the Wii.
"i hope the exhibition vontinues to engage and entertain" are such corporate hellscape words to end on
Ironically, had they just bundled this with the console and just sneakily increased the price of the console by 10 bucks, I doubt people would have even noticed.
More than anything else, the idea that they expect people to go to the store and say "man, now that I am buying my Nintendo Switch 2, I've GOT to have Welcome Tour to go alongside it!" is just kind of laughable.
Beyond that, the expo framing and the game basically just resembling corporate artstyle in 3D makes this game really weirdly drab and depressing compared to other Nintendo tech demo games. For a console that primarily markets itself on family-friendly mascots and straightforward gameplay fun this doesn't seem super appealing to kids or the extremely casual.
What a confused game, really.
That is what genuinely baffles me the most. Why not just increase the the console price by $10 and package it in? Surely they would have made more money that way? Why does this "game" need to exist?
if you think about it, based on volume consumption it'd actually be a lower price increase to do it that way . We're thinking in hindsight of the offset so the $10 increase would've been less of a factor. They clearly had a total goal of money in mind with the pricing and to match that goal it'd require less per unit if packaged with each unit.

Here's the sad thing: Imagine if this was just the Switch 2 menu? All the same assets could have made a 3D Mii world shaped like the console, and the little demos and options would be interesting little distractions when you're not playing a game. The normal menu could be popped up at any time with x, +, -, or whatever button, so no loss and only gain. This could have been a console with personality-Nintendo could have felt _fun_ again. Instead, they've opted to sell their company's soul for $10 a user. It just feels like such missed potential...
Esp if playing the minigames and stuff unlocked ways to customize and play around with the space. Like, collect all the stamps in an area? Here’s some background options. Got 5 gold medals? Here’s a silly hat for your guy. Finish the car demo? Now you can drive it around.
Reading everyone's fun ideas is the real tragedy about this entire fiasco

Even if it was free with the console I wouldn't be that happy with it. This whole "game" probably took as much development time as Wii sports. I would've preferred if they just included the mario 64 ds Luigi gambling mini-game or something.

They didn't even bundle in wii sports with japanese wiis as far as i know
Reggie even said that he was mad that Nintendo did this!
@@metachirality Yeah. Wii Sports is not the same as this thing at all.
When I got my original NES back in ancient times, it had mario and duck hunt packaged on top of two controllers and a gun and that was the downgraded version.
Reggie spoke in an interview once about how he had to fight tooth and nail to convince the Nintendo heads to make Wii Sports a free pack-in game in the West (it was sold separately in Japan). Apparently the culture at Nintendo HQ in Japan is that giving away a product for free is basically an insult to the people who made it, effectively calling the fruits of their labor worthless.
As someone not part of that culture, I can only say that I view charging money for this as insulting to the consumer.
"Apparently the culture at Nintendo HQ in Japan is that giving away a product for free is basically an insult to the people who made it, effectively calling the fruits of their labor worthless."
Several JAPENESE companies have already done that... INCLUDING NINTENDO ITSELF;
Nintedo is just full of shits.
I guess they don't care about the manuals?
Interesting... maybe if they went with the mentality that both the game AND the console were a part of one cohesive unit (and thus one product) this would have been different
For them, a free game is just profit missed out on and we can't have that now can we?
For sure. Nintendo already had established its brand as bundling a launch title with each console since the NES, so changing course right now doesn't look good to anyone looking at the switch 2 with that brand awareness. Their brand is changing in ways that might cause long-time fans to say "this isn't the Nintendo I grew up with" and hold onto their money.
Remember to leave this "game" a negative review on any sites that allow reviews, because Nintendo's site sure doesn't allow any criticism whatsoever
as someone who studied game dev, most "minigames" are just first fast projects one would do to learn how to create a game. This surely doesn't feel like it should cost any amount of currency other than free
