Curb feelers or curb finders are springs or wires installed on a vehicle which act as "whiskers" to alert drivers when they are at the right distance from the curb while parking. The devices are fitted low on the body, close to the wheels. As the vehicle approaches the curb, the protruding feelers scrape against the curb, making a noise and alerting the driver in time to avoid damaging the wheels or hubcaps. The feelers are manufactured to be flexible and do not break easily.
They were REALLY popular back when pristine white-wall tires were popular - my dad said they were really popular in the 60's and 70's. I saw them last on this car in chicago on one of those gigantic pimped-out 70's era land-yacht cars. People would scrub those white-walls so they were sparkly white. Any scuff on them would be a mark of shame, so curb feelers were added so you could tell how close you were to the curb and not scratch your tires + hubcaps.
I genuinely believe California Adventure is the best park in terms of cool areas to sit and soak in. Cars Land is my favorite part! I will usually do a FastPass for the Guardians ride and then go sit in Cars Land and just soak in the beauty. It still makes me feel like I am back on my own Route 66 trip I took a handful of years back.
Dear Carpetbagger, May I make a suggestion? You have asked more than once for ideas on what National Parks to visit, now that you have your annual pass. Since you are in California, please don't pass up Yosemite Park. If you have never been there, it will be well worth your while, and your audience's too!
If he visits Yosemite he should absolutely take the time to visit Sugar Pine Railroad which can be found on the way into Yosemite along 41. Really awesome railroad totally worth checking out.
11:45 When I went to Disneyland for the very first time back in 2019 that was the first ride I went on so it will always be my very first Disneyland ride
Curb feelers went on usually high end cars back in the day to alert you when you were getting too close to the curb so you wouldnt scratch your moon hub caps they went on the fender in front of the tire
Also the older cars had the wider white wall tires. The curb feelers were easily attached to the body of the vehicle usually in front of the right front tire. It was a spring-like flexible rod that would warn the driver when approaching the curb when parking, not to due damage to the tire or wheel. My grandparents had them on their cars. I think I may even have one in my garage. I would have thought Jacob would have known of them. Primarily used from the 40’s thru the 60’s.
My family had a big old Cadillac when I was growing up between 9 and 15 so I'm very familiar with curb feelers. Curb feelers warn you that you're about to scrape your expensive hubcaps and wheels on the curb when parallel parking. The metallic feelers are very loud when they scrape against something and they stick out from the side of the fender as a warning.
Absolutely loved the Route 66 series. I'm putting Route 66 on my bucket list for sure. Thanks so much for letting me experience the open road through your fun videos. I'm so happy I discovered your channel. 😁
I love the Casey Jones train. It’s great to grab a bag of popcorn and just chill and have a snack and check out the scenery. Rules may have changed about food because of Covid now though. I live in Ontario Canada and WDW is closer to me but I love Disneyland the most.
I usually don't think much about Disney but you're commentary about all of the Rt.66 references helped me appreciate more of the detail they put into the park.
Radiator Springs also looks amazing during Halloween and Christmas...but definitely during Halloween! The "zombie" car is pretty cool and slightly creepy...
The dinosaurs diorama on the train was part of the Ford's Magic Skyway ride that Disney built for the Ford pavilion at the 1964-65 World's Fair. Once the fair closed, Disney wanted to bring the ride to Disneyland, (like they did with Carousel of Progress, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln & It's A Small World), but Ford didn't want to sponsor it, so they salvaged the dinosaurs and put them on the train route and built the Grand Canyon diorama to go with it. I'm so happy you noticed the Murder Beaver while riding the Mark Twain! Murder Beaver has quite the following amongst Disneyland fans.
What a great addition to your Route 66 trip at Cars Land Downtown Disney. I had been to Downtown Disney many times but, while I liked the movie Cars, I always thought Carsland was just the ride not an entire section. After watching your Route 66 trip, this was an amazing bonus. Thank you for sharing. Keep safe!
I wanted to let you know that I forwarded your video from WDW when you used Genie+ to a friend who is going with her family for the first time. I go to WDW as often as my bank account allows! I and you …thanks to your video …have helped her make up her mind (at least for now) to not depend on Genie+ to get on everything you want to get on (or get on anything using it AND paying extra for it for that matter). I really enjoy your videos!
I love that you went to DCA and compared it to the actual sights on 66! Side note about the Disneyland railroad, I grew up going to Disneyland and that diorama inside the tunnel is a fond memory from my childhood. Haven’t seen it in a while, didn’t get on it last June when I was there and before that in 2019 it was under renovation. Have a safe trip back east!
OMG my husband would love that chili cone queso! It’s like a Frito Pie, which he loves. He considers that gourmet cuisine, LOL! We will be there in a few weeks so he might end up trying it!
Curb feelers were attached to the corners of the bumpers to help you from hitting the curb by making a sc aping noise back when all curbs were high and lined the roads. Route 66 were infamous for them.
Gosh, for all the times I've been to DCA and Cars Land (many), you really pulled together the Route 66 road attractions we've been watching with you, with this incredibly inventive land..,thank you, and see you down the road!
Honestly, that was the best top off to the Route 66 journey. Actually reinforces many of the things you saw in the last two weeks, like a bit of nostalgia. I would recommend fans of cars watch the whole set. You should make sure it is a playlist.
Recent years, my family and I have spent our Disney trips in Florida, but man Disneyland sure has a charm to it that Disneyworld does not. Great video as always Jacob
Really enjoyed this video and you looked like you had an amazing time on those fun rides! 😃 That food cone looked lovely too 😍 thanks Jacob and best wishes ☀️
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATS....On the journey and taking us along.....now go to the robot expo in Japan.... Carpetbagger International.......YES!!!!!!!! :)
California Adventure was my first job. They were one of the few places that hired minors. I worked at the Mission Tortilla Factory and Boudin Sourdough factory back in 2004.
Ok here is a few things for you consider… the National park I suggest is glacier National park in Montana ..also there is a museum here in Vegas that you missed.. it’s called Jewelry & Minerals-Las Vegas it’s at 410 Sahara Ave if you’re interested…
Have you made it into New Mexico yet? How about a Rest Area tour? Also, try getting a Happy Meal since they still come in those boxes. I picked up a Disney 50th anniversary toy. (thinking about your last video) Still enjoyed this one! I was actually hoping you'd do Cali Adventure.
Curb feelers are so you do not park too close to the curb and dent your door. Antique cars sometimes have them. I last saw them on an antique car at a car show. That is what the owner told me. My fathers antique cars did not have them.
My grandparents had curb feelers on there cars when I was younger. They lived in Greektown in Baltimore City and its row houses where you have parallel parking and these let you know when you were close enough to the curb while parking.
Hey carpetbagger loved the video, curb feelers are exactly that, they would go on the side of the car typically right behind the front wheel to feel the curb, ive only seen them on lowriders or old peoples cars
Next time you’re at DCA i highly suggest going to Carsland around dusk, they play the song from the movie and turn on the neon lights. I believe they still do it, haven’t been over there in a while but it’s a really cool tie in to the movie.
Curb feelers were also used because in that time the cars had white wall tires and the scraping of the curb feeler would let the driver know when they were parallel parking that they were far enough to not mess up the white wall tires... as well as hub caps.
curb feelers were used back then to help drivers from damaging their wheels and ruining their whitewall tires. when a curb is close by the antennae make a loud scratchy noise to alert the driver that they might ruin the side of the vehicle.
Curb feelers are from the 60's and 70s. Located behind the wheels and when they scaped the curb you would feel it in the car. Protection for the whitewalls
Lightning Racing Academy and Cars road trip need to come to this land in a future expansion and they can both fit in the area that's right behind Luigi's Rollicking' Roadsters and some run down good neighbor hotels. Also a recreation of the Wheel Well Motel and Restaurant can also fit right on top of the building that houses Radiator Springs Racers along with its own road that goes right up to it.
They did an exceptional job on this area it's beautiful
In my opinion, Cars Land is a better designed and well thought of than any other lands there.
Cars Land is better than both Avengers and Star Wars land!
IMO Cars Land may just about be the best land in all the US parks.
The forced perspective is unbelievable. It's gorgeous during the day and especially at night

and when they touch the curb it sounds like you are tearing the side of you car off!
They were REALLY popular back when pristine white-wall tires were popular - my dad said they were really popular in the 60's and 70's. Thank You Jacob! Drive Safely.I Blessings to you Can't wait for whatever is next. HUGS.
Curb feelers went on usually high end cars back in the day to alert you when you were getting too close to the curb so you wouldnt scratch your moon hub caps they went on the fender in front of the tire
They transferred sound really well, With all the high dollar rims people have Im shocked we don't see them anymore.
jc whitney also sold aftermarket feelers.
Also the older cars had the wider white wall tires. The curb feelers were easily attached to the body of the vehicle usually in front of the right front tire. Curb feelers also help discharge static electricity from your vehicle so you don't zap yourself getting in or out.
Or for my mom who hit every curb in town. The feelers didn't work. LOL
if i ever visited America i want jacob as my tour guide 😂 he's fun

Yessssss... was hoping you'd stop by the O.G. on your way home. 🙂

The Henry ford website just ran an article about this too if you want to check it out

Wow! I thought the trainride in Disneyland was just a little trip around the park. I didn't realize there are Dinosaurs. That was really cool!
I wanted to let you know that I forwarded your video from WDW when you used Genie+ to a friend who is going with her family for the first time. I go to WDW as often as my bank account allows! What an incredible finale to your Route 66 adventure!!! Loved seeing day and night in Carsland in Disney!
Only Carpetbagger can find taxidermy at Disney. lol Love this guy!!
You're back in Disneyland, Jacob!
My grandmother had a 55 Chevy with curb feelers I remember she said they let you know when your too close to curbs enjoyed the video thanks Jacob.
I really enjoyed this Jacob I absolutely love the cars movies brings back so many memories
Great end to a wonderful journey. Fantastic job, CB.
I love that you went to DCA and compared it to the actual sights on 66! Oh nice- Cars Land is a nice way to end the Route 66 video. Thanks!
This is so awesome. I love Cars Land, and the Native American, but I love it all.
Thank you Jacob for sharing.
Stay safe, Stay well, Stay blessed
carpetbager..ever thought about hiking the whole appalachian trail that would be an adventure...
Gosh, for all the times I've been to DCA and Cars Land (many), you really pulled together the Route 66 road attractions we've been watching with you, with this incredibly inventive land..,thank you, and see you down the road!
Oh, I love when you show the lights at night! You got some really nice shots of things, really enjoyed it!
Honestly, that was the best top off to the Route 66 journey. Actually reinforces many of the things you saw in the last two weeks, like a bit of nostalgia.
I would recommend fans of cars watch the whole set. You should make sure it is a playlist.
I have always like Disney In California better then the one in Florida
Awesome Work Bro, Thanks 👍😀😀😀 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
curb feelers you put on the car so you can feel when you are close to the curb before you hit the curb
Old Caddys and the such had curb feelers that would pretty much scrape on the sidewalk when parking so that you don't mess up them purdy wheels
Recent years, my family and I have spent our Disney trips in Florida, but man Disneyland sure has a charm to it that Disneyworld does not. Great video as always Jacob
What a fun day! Thanks Jacob!
Really enjoyed this video and you looked like you had an amazing time on those fun rides! 😃 That food cone looked lovely too 😍 thanks Jacob and best wishes ☀️

Great capper to the Route 66 saga, Bagger. Fun journey for us all!
I love anything with cars
1948-1970
California Adventure was my first job. They were one of the few places that hired minors. I worked at the Mission Tortilla Factory and Boudin Sourdough factory back in 2004.
Great way to end the the Route 66 trip.
Thanks for another great video!
Awesome video! 😊👍🏼
Hot drink and a Carpetbagger vlog ... need nothing else.
Looking forward to the haunt season. Ta Jacob 👍🏻🇬🇧
This is your best one so far. I loved it. You needed this.
Ok here is a few things for you consider… the National park I suggest is glacier National park in Montana ..also there is a museum here in Vegas that you missed.. it’s called Jewelry & Minerals-Las Vegas it’s at 410 Sahara Ave if you’re interested…
I love this video so much. I like seeing the crowds and how it is. I love the music in the background.
It’s a small world after all
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you.

WRONG SPELLING! 'their' NOT! there
Make the correction: My grandparents had curb feelers on there cars
@@howardbarry1074 hey spell police KISS MY TAINT!!!I will never change that now.
Yes. They were a big deal in Baltimore. Still see some older folks with them on their cars.
Enjoyed riding Radiator Springs Racers with you TCB!
Those curb feelers were used for parking so that you wouldn't scratch your car when parking near a curb, usually for more expensive/luxurious cars
Indian Jones still has the best ride finale ever! The special effect is the bomb!
That chili cone queso looked delicious. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Ooh your at Disneyland again, nice! Cars Land is an awesome land! Love the Route 66 theme they have in it!
Thank you for another great video jay cube 🥰
What an amazing way to cap the trip.
Hey carpetbagger loved the video, curb feelers are exactly that, they would go on the side of the car typically right behind the front wheel to feel the curb, ive only seen them on lowriders or old peoples cars
Curb feelers are placed on the underside of the front bumper of cars so that when you park you will find the curb before you scratch the bumpers.
Mostly old-school or lowriders have curb feelers so that you don't curb your rims
Great Fun Video! Disney always is exciting!
Next time you’re at DCA i highly suggest going to Carsland around dusk, they play the song from the movie and turn on the neon lights. I believe they still do it, haven’t been over there in a while but it’s a really cool tie in to the movie.
Curb finders, they attach to yr bumper mate, they're used for parallel parking, they hit the curb before you do bro 👊❤️
Awesome vlog 👊
i hope u saved the soda bottles for your bunker

I’m a big mark Twain fan I loved the old childrens adventure story
I love the road trip videos I feel like I’m riding in the car with you❤️❤️
What an awesome journey. Thanks for taking us along🤗💕🤗
That looked fun!
Lots of fun!
Well that was fun! I can only imagine how much money you’ve spent on this trip when you get home..😳🤑😬
Curb feelers used to be attached to cars so you could tell when you were the right distance from the curb when you were parallel parking.
We enjoyed the cars land adventure. Looks like a 👍 great place of fun.
Finally a Disney park, I'd enjoy! 😉
Great video! Drive safe!

Curb feelers feel from the sides of the car so you don't get took close to the curb so you don't scratch your wheels.
the cone food always reminds me of "The Jerk"
Pizza in a cup
Tamara from The Ring made me LOL. Spot on. :)
there's a cars hotel in disney world.
I used to go every other day to California adventure when I had a pass
So many cool memories
Another great sightseeing episode. If cars were going to do another film and you got asked to be in it.what car would you choose to be?
you would hear the metal of the curb feeler touch the sidewalk before it would touch your wheel or rim and damage your tire or rim
You should visit Coral Castle.
Curb feeler makes noise when it rubs the curb so u don't mess up your rims
