Those diamonds always fascinated me! I had one with my J. C. Gilbert O-guage set back in the mid-50's. I liked it when my locomotive and cars would repeatedly go over them! But knowing metallurgy, I know the steel in those diamond impact pieces has to be made out of a VERY tough steel. Has to be made put of different stock than the standard 139 pound rail. I also heard that the sections of curve have a slightly different alloy than the straight sections.
We had towns that had no speed restriction and we went through them at 60 MPH. We had one town that had a 20 MPH speed restriction and they raised it to 30 MPH for about a month then raised it to 40 MPH. We had less close calls at the 40 MPH speed restriction than we did at the 20 MPH speed restriction.
Another magic video JT. I went to a model train show at the weekend and picked up an N Gauge Auto Rack. I was amazed at the size of the model, then remembered seeing the real thing three years ago when on a coast to coast Amtrak US tour. Best vacation we ever had. And am I the only one that tries to count the cars on all the trains?….and loses count half way through!
Gotta be fully alert to catch 'em all :) There have been times when I've had to rewind 3-4, sometimes five times to do it. If I'm still losing count then, I solve it by... ... ... ...finally going to sleep :D Oh, and if you think an N scale autorack is big, wait till you handle an O scale one :D Over the years, I must have accumulated 50+ of them (with five more coming this year). The only way I could run all of them is to join a club, 'cause that train is already longer than my house o_O
I’ve always loved the sound of trains pounding the diamonds. Never really took the time to check their speed though, I’d say about 40mph. Muncie Indiana, another great railfan hangout. Thanks for sharing JT.👍🏼
Heh, heh. I had to go to the hospital years ago in Tennessee, laid down and thought an earthquake was going on. Found out that CSX had a track about 75 yards behind the hospital and these trains floored it. After about 2 days, I got used to it.
Wow! Señor Jaws! I left Indiana in 1974 when I graduated from Purdue. Forgot how pretty the late summer skies were. I've never been back. I think your recording in 1080 is a 'hit'. It allows me to see the 'duckies', 'bunnies' and other little critters in the clouds. Or, maybe I just didn't pay close enough attention back in the day when out on the $3-green -fees-for-students golf course. ... ¡Fore! ... Gracias por tu video. Nice. RT sends, Puebla, México...
Interesting - a "no horn" zone I take it :) That second NS train had plenty of horsepower! Third train made some interesting sounds going over the diamond :) That local had a nice SD60 and we don't see those every day, especially with a friendly engineer :)
Jawtooth.----Just let you know. The first thing I do every night is to check out your video of the day. I know it's a ton of work to get something out each day so thanks from all your subscribers. Every time I come through Mt Horeb ( or the area) I hope to see you at a crossing waiting on a train! 😀
Wow, thank you! that is awesome! My record so far is 50 videos posted in a row in 50 days. I broke that chain and right now I am around 25 or so I think . I would have to count. Thanks for watching !
Wow sharp curve, can't run that too fast, really cool diamond, makes those wheels sing. Cool, 4 engines and a DPU... CSX was doing 43 mph, haaa, hard to tell. Oh nice you got a horn salute and wave !! 👍 Great busy day on the rails Video !! 👍👍👍
I worked 16 years with the railroad. We could never figure what these guys painted on the sides on freight cars, and never see them do it. More so, what makes you want sneak into a freight yard with spray paint? One of the most dangerous places on earth. But some of their jobs made us laugh, and some were beautiful. I never, in my 16 years, saw a guy spraying a train.
"BACK HOME AGAIN...IN INDIANA"...Thank you sir for coming back to my great state of INDIANA...and allowing us to be featured in one of your excellent train videos once again..keep giving us your great content.
Thank you for uploading these additional trains that you saw in Muncie, Indiana on 10 August 2022. It was nice to see three mixed freight trains in this video. It gets a little boring at times when a double stack train comes by with just containers on the train. Sometimes I wonder how many containers J. B. Hunt owns.
Interesting how slow the gates go up after a train passes at this crossing. And then with the last train, they seemed to go down at the last minute with the short train approaching the crossing which gave even more time for the gate runners to cross in front of the train. Sounds like this is a "quiet zone" unless the engineers honk to acknowledge you which is always nice. That last engineer looked like a guy I once worked with. Lastly, I always enjoy your videos of your cute pets AND slide show, of course, with the AMAZING and colorful "artwork" you often feature like in this video. Those engines look even more dramatic in your slide shows. Thanks for sharing all this JT and have a nice weekend!
Slam those diamonds! Turn them into dust! Odd to see a GATX assignation on the top corner of that railcar @ 2:35. Uh oh!… empty centerbeams @ 8:40! Love that musical rhythm @ 12:45!
I live in fort Wayne Indiana about seeing a tow truck driver just about got hit by a train he had a car on back of him you ran the lights thanks form Gary plus I reported him
Chief Boyardee pizza and a Jaw Tooth video.....Priceless...Nice catch Jaw Tooth!!! I live on the west coast so all dinners after work are watching your videos..
Just last week a guy filmed an Engine off the track, it was CSX track I think he said he had to be somewhere. It was about 200 foot up the tracks from the NS crossover. I watch too many train videos. Always like to see your pets at the end.
Nice catch of the NS Grain Train, BNSF Mixed Freight train, CSX AUTORACK and the NS local train! Muncie looks like a great location to catch some great footage too! Thanks again JT for your PRICELESS time and effort my friend!
I love the diamonds. I filmed some trains going over the diamond, over in Stratford, TX. Just yesterday when I was driving through Oklahoma, I saw a westbound grain train, with a Southern Pacific in the second slot.
Hi jaw tooth Awesome job recording the trains I went railfanning myself with my best friend Jennifer saw two trains and git a horn salute from the second train made my day 😀 keep the video s coming I'm loving every second of them these days and thanks for the history on places too 😀 👍

My condolences on the passing of your beloved Queen. Regarding train noise, I once read that train horns in the USA often go from 80-150 decibels, though most are on the higher end. I once was at a crossing in Holbrook, Arizona USA and the speeding BNSF engine had a horn so loud that I had to plug my ears since I was outside of my car.
@@DougCeleste Thank you for your condolences, yup, It's a shame that she has now passed. I do understand that the horns need to be loud. Drivers with the radio loud, and I am also seeing more pedestrian with headphones on. (EVEN idiots on electric scooters) Thanks for the feedback.
Quite a distinctive beat as those auto racks pounded the diamonds, I got quite a dance going! Maybe incorporate it into your theme tune lol. Quality video as usual, keep up the good work.

Nice 👌 👍 trains nice 2 see the Dimond I'm guessing the csx was going 35 40 or so 😀 saw trains today myself right along the 10 freeway and passed the trainyard in colton California what a view

I worked for a passenger railroad. The funniest thing was a graffiti guy that posted "Cool Disco Dan" on damn near every building from Baltimore to D.C. Years later, our family traveled on train to the west, as we passed through, behind the FBI building, we saw it, "Cool Disco Dan". He tagged the FBI building.
If you looked closely from 1:02 you can see all that weight bending down on the tracks like it's wood. Pretty scary to see, as it looks like it can just break at any point! Also the cars at 12:24 sounds like they were making a song.🤣
Rails are actually pretty flexible. You'd want them to flex. Ideally you'd want the roadbed beneath them to be solid and level. Mother Nature and train traffic conspire to make that a challenge to keep ahead of.
Happy weekend! 😃😃

I like seeing the cat and dogs lounging on the patio, enjoying life.
Love the rhythm of that third train when its auto-rack cars were crossing the diamond!
Looks like Muncie Indiana is where all the action 🎬 is, so much traffic, lots of crossings ✝️ and signals 🚥🚦🚄🛎👌👍🍻🥂💚
ROCK N ROLL!! Whooo! Scary how fast they take that curve right before the diamonds!!
LOVE the rhythm of the long auto carriers over the diamond!
And that last train… TEN AXLES!
WOW! 🤩
It definitely had a nice beat to it. I'm sure someone who has a talent for music would make a song out of it.😆

The autoracks made a great marching cadence crossing the diamonds!!
Mishawaka has one too due to a huge hospital close to the NS mainline.
Today I can see very long train and very shoot train . That place is heaven place for railfan . Tank you very much .
The CSX sounded like it was a drum line and keeping an awesome beat mainly when the auto racks were passing that one spot.
Wow some long trains there. I guess if you listen hard enough, you can tell which wagons are going over the diamonds.
Great video JT thanks

They have to spend a lot of money on the cans of paint ! Not cheap!
Kimberly, most of the cans of spray paint are probably stolen.
@@kimberlyatwood5154 we never saw them. I worked at a passenger facility next to a freight yard. We never saw them.

Sounds just like Rochelle ILL., love it. A little toot salute isn't too hard to take. Some good action in Muncie makes for a great video, thanks!
Outstanding place to watch trains
I just love hearing the trains cross over the diamond and over the railroad crossings. This area is so cool. Another great video. Thanks Jaw Tooth

Sounded like a Drum solo with the CSX Hitting the 2 diamonds.
as the trains goes over the diamonds they put out a cool beat that some one could use for music.
with the new railfan scanner have to learn to speek railroader to understand some of what that say lol
