Good material from both. Imo Bloody Rain got this. There material was cleaner and had good features. Alcorns material was more diverse but started getting muddy. Kudos to both. ✊🏾✅
I'm ready for a fair review. Alcorn Snares- 8. Not bad. A steady handle of the basics: uniformity, stick height, attacks, etc. Now I'd like to see more hybrids, phrasing, interplay. Tenors- 8 Just made an 8. I'm not really hearing their parts. I give an 8 when a section has the basics of uniformity and playing down. Basses- 8 about the same. They were loud but I'm going to get more into volume with balance Cymbals- 8.5 actually pretty good. Uniform, playing proper parts, visuals together. Not bad at all. Quads- 8.5 Same as cymbals. I think that from what I saw cymbals and quads were the strongest lines. Quads went above the basics and played more challenging parts that fit. Balance- 6 This is where my issue lies. Alcorn is just "loud." I don't hear musical phrasing or proper voicing when it should be displayed. It just sounds....loud. There are parts where the snares should be featured with the melody, there are parts where the basses basses and tenors should raise up to accentuate certain counterpoint and the Quads with the counteelody. I didn't hear much of this. Difficulty of material-7 It was "okay." When wanting to be considered as top tier you need more than just okay "groovy" cadences. You need things that are going to be impressive to people who study the craft. At this point, all I get is "head bobbing" material. Overall score- 53-70 (76%) Lane Snares- 9 I was on the fence about an 8.5 or a 9 but I saw enough challenge beyond the basics to give a 9. Groove, technique, and attitude. I'll take it. Tenors- 8.5 Nice and together. Sometimes not too balanced but good all around. Basses- 8.5 This is what I was looking for: pocket and movement along with aggression. Very good to them. Quads- 9 I'd normally give an 8.5 but I liked then over Alcorn and Alcorn wasn't bad with theirs. I didn't want to knock them down to an 8. So I give a 9. Actually, I'm thinking about giving Lane 9.5. Cymbals- 9.5 Mininal mistakes. Good visuals. Good playing. Not more to say. Balance- 8. There were some messups in the beginning. I was going to give a 7.5 but they redeemed themselves towards the end. Same issues with voicing with Alcorn although not as much. In order to get to the next level you've got to let your sections shine musically. Yes, we bob heads but we also make music. Difficulty of material-8.8. I was going to give them an 8.5 but I think about the lines that I give a 10, so I decided to give them a few more marks. Overall score- 61.3/70 (86%) Final verdict: Alcorn 76%. Lane 86% Winner: Lane Great battle! Keep up the good work! I'm happy to do these reviews because it's helping me solidify how I give marks. I'm discovering that when a line displays the absolute basics of a good college line (uniformity, stick heights, proper attacks) then I get to the more intricate parts of presence, writing, creativity, etc. I'm enjoying it!
Lane ran solo’s and a solo cadence thats some stands shit this a real deal drum battle and some of they shit was simple somebody said alcorn was elementary i aint a fan of neither but alcorn won
BR wit the W 🅱️☔️
