    The spikes thing....by far the better explanation I've seen. Now, I can see gradient banding even though it doesn't show on the photograph...Affinity Photo is amazing! THANK YOU!!!

    The reason for the sharp spikes is that you are editing a jpeg. The histogram will be very smooth when editing raw files.
